Exodus: Gods and Kings stars Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Ramesses. It's directed by Ridley Scott.

Here is the first trailer:

My initial reaction is merely: "Ugh, why."

If this is anything like Noah, then I can safely say I can avoid this.

Haven't seen the trailer yet, but I'm confident that this film won't have a single black person it.

Maybe some Hebrew slaves or frowny-face draconian guards.

Hey look, two white dudes playing Egyptians.

In a movie whose plot will largely focus on the characters, but the human elements of the characters themselves will be dry and not relatable, but there will at the very least be a backdrop of some occasionally cool and interesting imagery, with a choppy and nonsensical narrative and tone.

Because, this is a Ridley Scott movie, and since Alien, that is all is movies have ever been.

All I can think is Christian Bale shaking down Egyptians and in his Batman voice yelling: " Free the Jews!"

"I don't know where the slaves are. I swear to God!"

"SWEAR TO - oh, wait, yeah, swear to God."

So I saw this with my Gradnmother.

I'm not going to go and get into a religious accurate debate, so I will just say this.

I understand why Exodus: Gods and Kings is not 100% accurate to the bible. While a lot of it is, they did things differently. Here is why. If there was say... five movies about Moses in the last decade, and they were all exactly the same, with the exception of different actors, actresses and special effects, then what would be the point of seeing a newer one if it was just going to be exactly the same? I guess that the film makers have to see this from a business point of view as well.

BUT... other then some inaccuracies, and how they... portrayed God... It wasn't a bad film... I'll stick with "Prince of Egypt" for my favorite film about Moses however.

If you want to know how God is portrayed...
He's more or less The God Child Thing from the end of Mass Effect 3, just with a British accent.

Pretty much per Attom. Rather than making the same story over and over with different changes (and I hardly care about Biblical accuracy), they could just stop making Exodus movies. That story has been exhausted cinematically.

Prince of Egypt is the definitive Exodus movie. The Ten Commandments is 60s cheese-gold.

I agree with this statement.

I think it would be interesting to explore different areas of the Bible instead of Genesis, Exodus and Matthew. Revelations would be an interesting thing to tap on, or possibly the Gospel of Mark

Revelation would require a ton of CGI, but it would still be interesting. Personally, I think any take on the book of Acts would be good for a movie as long as it isn't focused on making the church or God seem cruel or evil, as I know some script writers and directors could do. I also think that Judges could make several good movies if not one.

By and large, the Bible isn't a particularly good narrative. It wasn't necessarily meant to be either. They weren't trying to recount literal historical facts, after all. They were looking at the truths revealed by those stories. So it didn't have to be a perfectly linear narrative.

Knowing that, I think it's better to potentially take ideas from the Bible and adapted them in new ways, rather than just trying to tell the Biblical stories. Not only does that better use the source material, but it also means we don't have to remake the same Biblical stories over and over again.

Bible. Avengers style team-up movies. You are welcome Hollywood.
