OCC: For the following thread, you are invited to write a short blurb of your character recovering cultural or technological treasure for the colony. Refugees are also allowed, but please keep in mind that the ship has a passenger capacity of 240 people. Each post should highlight a different target. Success or failure is to be determined via dice roll and will consequently influence the state of the colony next TL.

[Plot discussion] [Difficulty check]

* * *

Moor's first thoughts when his plan to settle a planet in the Unknown Regions became more concrete were for his homeworld. Although he ought to act with impartiality in the conduct of this operation, he desired the preservation of his cultural heritage above that of other nations.

Nubia was most recognized for its ingenious spaceship designs, so it seemed only natural to the Senior Senator to seek to preserve their most innovative schematics. His personal connections with the planetary governmental officials had allowed him access to an encrypted datapad that was supposed to grant him entry to the headquarters of the Nubian Design Collective located adjacently to one of their most important factories.

As secrecy was of the utmost importance, he would conceal his identity as to not to cause tension between his planet's public sector and the private company. Cloaked, he awaited the rise of darkness to execute the data theft.

Unbeknownst to Moor however, the security codes to access the factory had just been updated. His intrusion attempt was quickly noticed, and he was unceremoniously evicted from the Nubian Design Collective factory. He had to unveil his identity to avoid behind sent to prison. This major political faux-pas would be sure to prevent his reelection, if the self-imposed exile he was about to embark on had not already seen to that.

With a heavy heart, Moor realized that the Nubians were no longer his people. His loyalty was now to the people with whom he would be establishing a colony in Wild space, out of the reach of the Empire's tentacular influence.

Despite his best attempts at diplomacy, his family on Chandrila knew immediately what he was insinuating when he went to go gain their aid. Already angered that he had stepped down from being Senator, this was the last straw. He would no longer gain any aid from his family or Chandrila itself, something that was a stinging failure for a man who had always loved his planet. The only saving grace was that he was able to take his belongings from his room and that they weren't going to alert anyone else on the planet to what he and his friends were trying to do. This would only serve to bolster his resolve, though. His next stop would be Coruscant, and then from there it would be to Alderaan. The last planet was the one he was most worried about. In his mind, what he did or didn't receive there could make or break their whole plan.

Anaxes. The Lion's Den if things went pear shaped. You didn't just walk out of a major military installation when you were alone trying to do less than above-board activity. Couldn't exactly play the Special Operations card either -- defeated the point of being clandestine. Might complicate things if the world started burning this early in the game, but what was life without taking a few risks?

Who better than a child of Anaxes, and an ardent supporter of the Republic, to pursue matters on the planet?

Dryden presented his official credentials and walked right in to the facility without anyone batting an eye. Access to the database was granted, and surprisingly everything proceeded without a hitch. What was worth the risk? Not ship positions or communication codes; all of those would be changed soon as someone sneezed -- or an Empire invaded, if that came to pass. Though Dryden took a peek along a certain route just to be sure it wouldn't matter. No, it was the history of the Republic's military efforts and its part in defending its people from the Sith or the Imperial Fleet. Facts that would conveniently be lost should that invasion occur.

And why shouldn't Dryden access such information? Some of it might be classified, but then he was a man with above average clearance.

Secondary objective was obtaining compound defense weaponry. It'd require some setup and configuration on-site, but it kept the package tight for transport. This was where things would get particularly problematic if something went wrong. How did you explain trying to move secured weaponry? Well, as fortune had it Dryden explained it was necessary for a covert mission to defend the Republic from the Hutts. Plausible, and more importantly he got the personnel on duty not to bother with the formalities. Blow the Hutt-loving scum from the galaxy, right?

Tertiary objective? Defense shielding. Also tricky. Also dangerous. While there was some luck acquiring the equipment, it wasn't exactly what he'd been looking for. Everything was accounted for, but there were some damaged components. Seemed it'd been carelessly removed from a transport vessel when it was put in storage. They'd need to acquire some components to get it functional, but there was sure to be someone with the skill set available so Dryden wasn't too upset about it.

There was an attempt to secure those components from the base, but the Quartermaster refused. Got a bit irate too before Dryden acquiesced and apologized. Of course a number of operations, missions, and future endeavors would need those same supplies. Couldn't blame the man for making sure there was enough to go around. It was irksome that a covert mission didn't seem to measure up, but having secured so much else without issue Dryden wasn't going to start a fight over capacitors and wiring. There were other sources elsewhere.

It was a relief to lift off with the supplies without leaving behind a fire fight. Parting on those terms would have been an emotional blow. Circumstances were hard enough. Michael only hoped all of this would be unnecessary.

The Republic was beginning to fall apart at the core, and Doctor Landis wasn't about to let all her research go down with it. There was a lot there, and seeing as it was hers, that was no problem. The real issues were (A), the lab equipment necessary to conduct further research on pathogens without having to reinvent multiple scientific advances; (B), hazmat gear that would allow the chemical reading of atmosphere, which would possibly be necessary in case of emergency--although the armor on her back would do the job, albeit poorly; and (C), first aid and medical supplies straight from a hospital.

The first bit could have gone much smoother than it did, considering that Aggie literally had purchased almost all of the lab equipment with the limited funds sent to CBRN. The only reason it had failed was because of the fact a civilian disease research team had gotten ahold of it, basically kicking her out of her own lab and forcing her to face the task of improvising in the future.

Her second attempt had gone pretty poorly as well, though quantifiably miles better than the first try at grabbing some lab equipment. It was fairly easy to coerce CBRN gear from the armory, mainly because of the fact that the sergeant in charge had no idea how it worked and didn't see it as necessary to worry about, especially with the chance of conflict in space, where nobody was going to be using gas attacks. However, this also meant that the gear was in such bad shape that it was essentially unusuable. The best Landis could do with it was turn it into scrap.

Lastly were the medical supplies. She had sent Léon to do this task, and had basically let him try to do his own plan. In hindsight, a terribly, terrible idea. Apparently he had a medic buddy from another unit and had gone to grab some morphine and disinfectant when some MPs took notice. They managed to search his pack of supplies, take away all the tough-earned first aid from it, and also nearly tossed him in a military jail for a while after he almost picked a fight with the Republic MPs. Luckily, the Doctor had managed to fish him out of there, and they were just left with whatever they normally brought along with them on combat missions.

Overall, this could have been worse. But it should have gone better.

Trenton had been mildly popular on Coruscant, his demeanor friendly and even going out of his way to help others despite his station in politics. This had apparently meant a lot to some important people. There were medics and medical professionals outside the purview of the GAR or general Republic itself. Independent healers, providing what aid they could to those whom society had either turned away from or abandoned. It was here that he had finally gotten some aid, medical equipment and even some doctors and medical technicians to come along with the inorganic aid. After the falling out that the former Senator had experienced on Chandrila, this was definitely a good start to helping Mr. Todan's efforts to preserve what he could of the Republic. A Sith takeover was inevitable, anyone with the ability to look beyond the current time could see that.

It was at Alderaan that Trenton was truly humbled, though. He had hoped to gain some support from House Harlow, perhaps some data on military instruction or some other useful bit of data that would prove invaluable to the coming generations. With a smile that didn't quite reach his melancholy eyes, though, the head of the House, Cidney, not only gave him all their records but also allowed all non-combat personnel to come with him to Zakuul. That included instructors, researchers, scientists, technicians, and the data contained personal family information as well as the assembled wisdom of centuries of crafting the art of war. Finally, Cidney's grand-nephew was to come along as well, alongside his nanny and mother. At the very least, the line of Harlow would pass down to the future despite how the war on Alderaan went. Trenton noticed some peculiar items in the list of data, such as autobiographies of Christopher and Alphonse Harlow, though he would have to look at these later. He had one last stop to make, hopefully as fruitful as the last.

Thankfully, and probably because it was outside the Republic, some of the company Galaxy Dynamics agreed to heed his call to aid. A few of their technicians and researchers opted to go along, bringing with them their blueprints and other research data. Their leaders were named Gladys, Roland, and Jacob. While alone they could only theorize and create designs for new devices and ships, when paired with the knowledge and resources even just from House Harlow these dreamers could create some wondrous designs if given enough time. Perhaps time would be all they would have in the coming years, being forced to keep quiet lest they arouse the suspicions of the Sith. At the very least they would be able to keep up technologically. Hopefully the others had been just as successful in their ventures. For himself, Trenton had pulled all the favors he could. Now it was time to help Moor a bit more personally.
