With the decline of the American Superpower to the west Turkey benefited from new investments into its economy.

History:

2008: Plans to purchase Missile defense systems are set in motion. Turkey purchases from both Russia and America. The Missile systems are the Patriot MM-104 and the Triumph S-400. Turkey also expanded its infrastructure for the rising demand for energy creating several new CANDU power plants. This sparked protest from countries neighboring Turkey due to the increased usage of natural Uranium which despite it's availability and low costs could potentially be used to make weapon grade plutonium.
2009: Earthquake causes rampant destruction in Istanbul. Illegal construction, combined with corner-cutting methods, have accounted for the reason why 65% of the buildings in Istanbul are built without proper planning which in turn contributed to the large amount of destroyed property and loss of life during the natural disaster. This was the straw that broke the camels back the government of Turkey was forced to step in and place down strict reforms and change of building codes. Reconstruction of the city immediately commenced. Purchased military equipment from 1990- to present arrive except for the defense systems.
