I was always a fan of Palleon personally, he learned from Thrawn in alot of major ways, but actually had a heart

and though I hate her, you have to respect Dala, the bitch just never stayed dead, and even took over as head of the Alliance

I know Picard isn't technically a military commander, but he does have a Starfleet military manoeuvre named after him.

And he's the BEST EVER.

I agree, Picard was not a military commander, but an explorer.

My favorite is Thrawn hands down. Other than that, it would be a difficult choice. I like Adama as I think he made some very hard but logical choices that counterbalanced Roslin's more idealistic choices. Most of the time, I sided with him in disputes.

What I liked about Adama and Roslin was that they were both right in their own respective arenas. Roslin was generally right about politics, and Adama was generally right about the military. When they tried to do things in the other's arena, things tended to not go very well.
