Are there any standard first contact protocols established on the site? If so, how detailed are they and can I have a link to see them?

As in talking to other members offsite? Breathe heavily...drool a little...grin. That's what I do. Ask Cassa, Rom, and TAC.

No, I mean IC, with newly discovered alien races. It would be a tiny, tiny thing to RP, but I'm interested in it.

Ah! I don't see anything relating to that. You could message Adena/Empress about it maybe? She's always nice no matter how much you annoy her. <-Personal Experience.

first step would be creating a species write up ( which will be opening soon)

I dont think there is a solid protocol. Going by the site history:
When the Danthiri showed up en-mass their first contact was with the mandalorians, they had a massive massive battle right off the bat that ended in a stalemate and eventual alliance that lasted the entire first timeline - hehe Danthiri even got the mandos trained on mounted rancore combat

Now government wise I can think of two examples off the top of my head. With the Voss both er republic and sith empire sent reps to study them and try to flirt and win them over to " their cause" The next example really is the vong - which again early on the New Republic approach was to treat them as you would any foreign dignitary

with a galaxy so insanely populated first contacts seem less of a major thing, if anything pretty common I would imagine as worlds are discovered or a species elevates itself and treated more as a casual polotical thing as opposed to something major and galaxy shattering

Well, there could be three options here:

1) Go the careful route, gather as much info about the planet and the biosphere through scans as possible, gather information on diseases, toxicology, etc. Communicate through wireless at first.

2) Ignore all sciencey stuff and just be like "what's up? We're Humans, what's your species? And can we bone your women? Sweet."

3) Go Cortez all over their asses.

I don't think First Contact is as big a concern here as it is in Star Trek.

In Star Wars, running into new species seems like a daily thing.

I mean more for meeting a pre-space flight species. One with steam power, for example. Is it just 'don't give them nukes'?

On Star Wars? Usually the protocol for that type of thing is to colonize the world with the more 'civilized' and attempt to integrate galactic technology in on the people's lives. Unlike Star Trek, Star Wars has always been about trying to help less developed species to catch up.

yeah in SW forced elevation happens a great deal- the alliance/republic/new republic may have been more....gentle about it, but it happened constantly none the less

Yep. And in the terms of the Alliance/ect. they really had no choice but to do it. They obviously did not have the means to protect these planets and let them develop by themselves, and if they did not force them to elevate then the result was often the Sith rolling over them and burning/killing/conquering/ect.

Not sure which Alliance you're referring to or which era. Also, I'm not quite so sure you're referring to the Alliance.

Please elaborate.

he would mean - republic-rebel alliance, new republic, galactic alliance - all of them really would and have gotten involved with primitive worlds when discovered in order to basically elevate them for their own safety, if not from the sith than from the Hutts and or those with ties to slavers
