Jedha---1000 Hours

[abox3]As the shuttle touched down on a landing pad in the Jedha City spaceport Kane rose from his bunk, it had been a long flight so he had been resting for the second half of it. As they had flown he had thought of the next steps he needed to take with his new apprentice, first up would be the walk from the spaceport to the temple to get the boy his new equipment -something he thought Tynian would enjoy for sure-. He had just been thinkimg of what first lessons to teach Tynian when the ship settled and the engines could be heard winding down.

He exited his small bunk room and looked around for Tynian, he felt a little bad for leaving the boy alone during the last part of the flight but he figured with the swirls of hyperspace and all the controls to look at -plus the pilot was a nice fellow and would have answered any questions the boy asked happily- he would have been entertained well enough.[/abox3]

The flight through hyperspace was one of wonder. Tynian (the young Ysanna of fifteens years) watched the stars streak by in awe and then asked all sorts of questions that the pilot seemed happy to answer. He learned a bit about how a ship works and the controls, but still needed to learn so much more...

Seeing the planet Jedha come into view was even more exciting. Not only did it hold everything new to Tynian, this was also going to be where he would learn the ways of the force. He was going to be a Jedi.
His new Master, had gone to his room to rest, but Tynian stayed in the cockpit to take in all he could upon arriving to his new home. As they landed he thanked the pilot for the ride and the conversation and hurried to gather his things out of the metal room they had been placed in.
After getting them he went to the ramp and eagerly waited for his Master to come.

Kane saw Tynian head to the ramp with his things excitedly as it began to lower with a faint hydraulic hiss, the sunlight streaming in through the opening. It was a hot and dry day on Jedha -as per usual- and Kane was already looking forward to a drink at the end of the walk up to the temple.

Kane headed down the ramp with his apprentice. "Welcome to Jedha Tynian!" he proclaimed loudly, garnering them some odd looks from passers by -at least before they recognized Kane as a Jedi-. "The temple is this way, we aren't in any real hurry but i can promise you you will want some water by the end if the walk up." he chuckled as he started off towards the temple.

Tynian exited the ship and took a deep breath. The air was quite warm and dry, much like the deserts on Ossus. Figuring he would have to get used to it sooner rather than later, he smiled at Kane and followed him to the Jedi Temple.
As they walked a question formed in his mind, "Master Kane... How many Jedi live here?"

"Many, it can change from day to day. Some just stop in between assignments or to learn new things or just to reflect for a while. Others like myself and some of the council have permanent residences." he said as his best answer to Tynians question. Once they reached the temple Kane would show Tynian to his quarters -showing his apprentice where his own were on the way there just in case-

"So, this is your quarters. I know it isn't much but trust me, you will not be spending much time here during your training." he chuckled, knowing how vigorous Jedi training was. His other student Jinlo had been running herself down to the bone from sun up to sun down every day. "There is a set of Jedi clothes in there for you. Once you've changed I'll take you on a quick tour and we'll set you up with your other equipment."

Tynian took a deep breath as he was left alone in his room. It was a simple room, which made him feel more at home. It only had a bed, a small closet and a nightstand.
Remembering the promise of a tour, he put his stuff into the closet and took out the Jedi robe and clothes. Studying them he found them to be simple as well, consisting of light tan pants and tunic, dark brown belt and boots, with a dark brown robe. He changed quickly not wanting to make his Master wait any longer than needed and found the clothes to fit perfectly.
The young Ysanna walked out of his room finding Kane waiting for him, "I'm ready Master. I left my quarterstaff in the closet because you mentioned some other equipment... If I may ask, what other equipment is there?"

"Looks like you were born to wear that." Kane said grinning as Tynian exited his room, he started walking for the tour without really saying they were off but he knew the boy would be right on his heels.

"it's a sirprise." he chuckled in response to Tynians question. He took a long route through the temple, showing his apprentice the mess hall, library -not failing to mention the fact that he once curated the massive collection of books- where the council chambers were -an important place to be sure- theu went through courtyards and all manner of other common areas before finally reaching a small sparring room the the old Sentinel had reserved for them.

Inside Kane opened a small case and handed the contents to Tynian. A staff model of an Electroblade Training Saber deactivated and collapsed for now. He also took out his own single bladed training saber. "Not exactly the quarterstaff you're used to, and not quite a lightsaber. But a stepping stone in between. It should serve to get you used to the way that a lightsaber works." he paused for a moment, wondering if he should explain the weapon to Tynian, but decided to let the boy figure it out for himself. "And this time I got you a staff." he added with a wry wink.

Tynian took the training staff and tested its weight. He spun it in his hands a couple of times and then went through a series of moves that he had been taught by his father back home. It wasn’t fancy but he did know the basics of how to handle the staff, although he still had much to learn about the weapon.
He smiled at Kane, “This is much lighter than my staff... but it seems like it would do more damage.” He inspected it a bit more, “What is it made out of? And what’s this button for?”

Kane chucked a little, remembering the first training saber he ever held. They were clunlier back then and not collapsible like this one. "Not much damage, but it packs quite the shock."

He could have told Tynian that the button would activate the weapon, but where would the fun be in that? "That, my ypung apprentice, is a function best discovered by you pushing it." he admired the boys caution, but he knew that Tynian had immense potential that would come out as soon as the old Sentinel got him out of his comfort zone.

Tynian inspected the button and then pressed it with his thumb. The weapon hummed to life in his hands. To test it he touched the ground briefly causing sparks... He grinned at Kane, “This would definitely make the forest raiders think twice about coming to our village.” The staff felt strange as it hummed, but it wasn’t anything he couldn’t get used to. He spun it around a few times again listening to the sound and gaging the speed. Then rather impulsively he pointed it at Kane. “I think I might fare better with this than the wooden sword you gave me last time... want to see?”

Kane smiled at Tynians challenge, he was going to enjoy seeing what the boy could do with the style of weapon he was used to. "Yes that was my thought as to what we should do next." he said happily as he activated his own training saber, the telescoping blade shooting out of the handle and beginning to crackle with energy. "I will warn you, it stings when these hit you."

The old Jedi moved to the center of the room and took a basic stance, feet shoulder width apart and his saber hilt held at his waist in the center if his body, blade straight up and down. "When you are ready."

Tynian followed Kane to the center of the room and took his position opposite of his new Master. He took up the staff in both hands and nodded.

His first attack was a series of short jabs and thrusts designed by his tribesmen to try to disarm the opponent... they weren’t supposed to land every time, but more or less to try to knock the other’s weapon out of their hands... Tynian figures that this was the best way to try to prove that he knew what he was doing.

Kane Grinned as his new apprentice came at him, and he was very impressed. After their short duel on Ossus the old Sentinel was shocked by Tynians speed, he parried a couple of the initial strikes -the training blades making loud electrical cracks as they connected- but as he overextended to block a strike that was evidently never meant to make contact his hand was hit by the strike that followed.

He inhaled sharply as the training weapon zapped against the back of his hand and his training saber fell to the ground.

"Well done!" he praised the boy as he picked up his weapon, "I will admit I did not expect you to be so quick."

He took a one handed stance next, his right side turned slightly towards Tynian with his feet spread and his saber held at hip hight on an angle out and up from the hilt. "Now defend!"

Once Tynian was ready Kane would advance, making a series of wide half circle strikes alternating from his apprentices left and right sides. he would slowly increase the speed of the strikes to test the boys blocking ability and reflexes

Tynian was surprised that he actually hit his master’s hand. A bit of over confidence filled him as he replied to Zane’s shock, “I have been trained since I could walk Master.” he said with a matter of fact tone.
Then the Jedi took a different stance and attacked...
Tynian did ok defending at first, but as the Jedi got faster his confidence left quicker than it came, resulting in Tynian actually flailing to try to keep the Master’s weapon from hitting him... which proved futile.
Once agin he was on his back and in pain in several different places from the vibrio-sword’s electricity.
He looked up at Kane and spoke through a pained yet respectful grimace,
“I do have a lot to learn don’t I? I apologize for being cocky... my father told me I did that too often.”
He stood up and rubbed some of the sore spots and then took up position opposite of Zane, “Please show me everything.”

"Everything? Evwrything will take years boy!" Kane chuckled as he also took position. "For now we'll start simple. You already have considerable skill, which will make an excellent foundation to build off of. Let's work on your parries. Try using the inertia fron each strike you block to speed your weapon as you position it for the next strike."

Kane hoped his explanation of what he wanted Tynian to do, "Now, defend. " The old Jedi began advancing again, starting with one wide arcing strike to the right followed up with one at the left. He would continue this pattern like last time, getting just a little bit faster with easch strike. He was confident that Tynian would be able to do this, he had great faith in the boy in spite of their short time together.

At first Tynian did well against the Jedi's strikes. But then at one point everything got too fast for him to keep up and he landed again on his back with another bruise forming on the left side of his chest. He stood back up and took his stance once more.
Again and again he would get to a certain point and on his back he would go... but every time he would get back up and keep trying.
At one point he took his robe off and set it aside to see if he could get more movement...

Then something clicked in his mind, almost an idea formed in his head to try to "see ahead" of the strikes and what the Jedi Master would do next. It was only a thought, but the boy figured he'd give it a try... So as the swings, thrusts and strikes came again, Tynian allowed the force to guide his hands and he began blocking them a bit easier this time. As the Jedi went faster and faster Tynian was doing well at keeping up, but he was still getting hit, and he was getting tired.

After a while they stopped and he felt like he had been run over by a Bantha. He had bruises and welts all over his arms, and he was covered in sweat, but he wasn't on his back.

He leaned on his staff as he tried to catch his breath, "You're not even sweating Master. And I don't think I even touched you that time."

Kane smiled and deactivated his training saber, the blade retracting back into the hilt. "You've gotten a few good hits in on me." he chuckled as he rubbed his wrist where it hurt from a strike he wasn't even sure Tynian knew he had landed.

"I think we will move on for now. Take a few minutes to compose yourself, the hild of that training saber has a hook to hang it off your belt once it's retracted. Once you are ready we will begin some Force excercises."

With that the old Sentinel walked to a shelf and got out a set of five plates like the ones he used while assessing Tynian on Ossus. He set the plates up in a stack in the middle of the room and then sat cross legged on one side of them, he would wait there until Tynian was ready. They had plenty of time as it would just be hitting noon by now, and Kane had quite the day planned for them.

Tynian did as Zane instructed and deactivated the training staff. The twin blades turned off leaving a long hilt that he hung on his belt.
He rubbed his sore spot as he followed his master to the center of the training room, then sat across from Zane and the five plates and waited for more instruction.

"Alright Tynian, let's start simple. Un stack the plates, laying them out in a line. Then - stack them all again."

A simple task intensed not only to get his apprentice warmed up, but also to guage how tired out by their sparring excercise he had become.

Tynian nodded then looked at the discs. He had done this before only a few days ago when he was being tested by Zane to see if he would be trained as a Jedi... so he figured it would be easy.
He concentrated but his being physically tired didn’t help things. He couldn’t focus very well and only succeeded in moving only a couple of the discs into the beginning of a line until he stopped. “I’m sorry Master, I must be more tired than I thought. How do you keep from getting so work out?”
