The Church of the Will of the Yahm had been completed for almost two years now. Shortly after Marcus delivered the machine for Arsolyn, they began to date. Over the five year period what started as infrequent lunches and sneaking away from boring functions they both attended, grew into a serious relationship. Arsolyn had become very fond of Marcus and she felt like he filled in the part of her life which was missing.
Arsolyn never pressed or asked how he felt about her. Arsolyn knew Marcus was not the type of man who liked talking about his feelings. So she allowed him to share only as much of his feelings as he wished to share. Arsolyn assumed he was happy with her as well, because he continued to see her and she hadn't heard of other women beyond his stepdaughter.
Marcus made his feelings clearly known to Arsolyn one evening in particular, and she remembered it well. It had been a cloudy night about six months ago. The pair had been walking around in the middle of the night. They were on the same piece of ground the Church stands upon, now.
Arsolyn was able to reconcile the fact that Marcus didn't agree with her religion. Truth be told, he probably hated this church and her religion. Arsolyn was okay with this because for once in her life, it was nice to have something separate from the Church. Early in their relationship she had tried to sabotage it by talking extensively about the church. Even if Marcus only retained a minute fraction of what she said, he would still be considered knowledgeable about how the church operates and what it believes in. To his credit he stayed through Arsolyn 's lectures and slowly she gained more confidence that he wouldn't just disappear one day and leave her alone.
Then, Marcus proposed on the grounds of the Church. Arsolyn was so shocked and happy that she almost couldn't speak. She eventually calmed down enough to say yes. The proposal was kept secret for a week before it was the rumor of the community. Arsolyn's past xenophobic tendencies are largely past her now and she has come to realize that all beings can contribute and all beings have merits.
She is currently alone in her dressing room, obsessing over her reflection in the mirror. Although, many hours of preparation have gone into her appearance she stared at her reflection trying to find a flaw to correct. Just now, her soon-to-be husband would be on his way to stand in front of the crowd that filled her church. It seemed like everyone was here.
Arsolyn was used to being in front of a crowd, but this was unlike anything she had previously experienced. She found herself flashing back to techniques she used to prepare for a sermon, but even those did not help.
Arsolyn tried to relax. She had put on a small amount of weight in the five years since the cradle had been delivered. It's addition made the slaves fall in line much quicker then she even anticipated. She was confident in them now and the vast majority had been transferred under Apophe's control. Her slaves were still in training.
Why was Arsolyn thinking about slaves?! Any minute now Apophe would be summoning her so she could walk her down the aisle, and give her away. Why did someone have to give her away, as if she were a possession. Don't do that, she told herself, relax.
