Force-Forging
Affiliation: Jedi, Sith and other assorted Force orders. Considered an uncommon practice in the current era, but not quite a lost art.
Requirements:
Unusual Properties: When properly and expertly forged, a Force Forged weapon would, as long as it was in the hands of a Force user, become hard as phrik and feel as light as a feather in the hands of the wielder, giving it properties in combat remarkably similar to the later lightsaber. A Force Forged weapon also had a distinct presence within the Force, and so a wielder could let the Force flow through both him or herself and the blade, allowing the two to unify as a single, flowing entity. A Force Forged weapons master would prove to be light and nimble with their weapon, yet devastatingly deadly, displaying a finesse and skill that could only be matched by a lightsaber.
As the Force was folded into the very material of the weapon, it was incredibly difficult to corrupt or purify a Force Forged weapon. While extensive meditation and the use of corrupted/ pure Kyber crystals was one option with limited success, more often than not it was simply easier to forge a new weapon. Alternatively, corrupting or purifying a weapon was possible, albeit through only the most heroic or heinous of acts or rituals.
While most Force-forged weapons were simply hardened and attuned to the Force, it was possible for a Force User to use the latent energies trapped within the weapon to create dazzling secondary effects. Though scholars would endlessly debate the actual merits of a sword that could burst into flame, or a trident that sparked with arcs of electricity, or a mace that glowed blue in the darkness of night, these effects created an undeniable sense of awe in would-be adversaries - often just the sight of such a weapon would be enough for an enemy to flee - much like the lightsaber of modern times. Of course, such effects did little to actually enhance the damage of the weapons, but the mystique that surrounded such objects was worth its weight in gold for the budding hero, in a time where glowing laser swords were just a fantasy.
History: Predating both the lightsaber and the Jedi Order by several millenia, the art of Force Forging was originally believed to have been conceived by the Guardians of the Whills on Jedha, the art of Force Forging is similar to, but still vitally distinct from the art of creating a Kyber Staff. Requiring a Kyber crystal embedded into the required crafting tools, and the materials required to create a martial weapon - whether it be dagger, sword, spear, axe or otherwise - Force Forging was the art of literally forging the Force into the very fabric of a weapon as it was being made. As metal was folded and beaten, or wood was shaven and carved, the crafter would imbibe the material with Force energy with every step, carving out the 'true form' of the weapon from the materials provided that only the crafter could see within their mind's eye. Truly proficient crafters, it was said, could even bend and mould white-hot steel with their very hands, and carve intricate designs with their bare fingers and nails, harnessing the latent power of a Kyber crystal by merely rubbing it in their hands.
The invention of the Kyber Staff followed at a later date, an evolution of the craft of Force Forging to allow a weapon to store some degree of Force energy as a 'prepared' attack - however, while the advanced techniques of the Kyber Staff were lost to time, traditional Force Forging was kept alive by the Guardians of the Whills, who continue to pass this knowledge on to those willing to learn.
Intent: This is sort of designed to build on and work alongside the Kyber Staff in the vein of pre-Jedi weaponry and the EU/Legends vein of 'enchanted' weapons in order to give Jedi and Sith something a bit more mystical to play around with for their backstories than just 'generic phrik sword#87.' It's also my attempt at trying to explain the traits of some of the mystical weapons we see particularly in the Clone Wars, like the Dagger of Mortis and Talzin's Sword, and there's a few elements that can potentially tie it in with Chirrut's staff as well.
Type: Pre-Jedi Order technique for hardening and enhancing weaponry using the Force.Requirements:
-Force Users only. Both creating the weapon and using it require a deep connection to the Force - without it, the weapon will be completely mundane in the hands of the wielder.
-Can be applied to weapons only - completely unsuitable for armor.
-Requires mundane materials. Lightsaber-proof materials such as Phrik or Cortosis are unsuitable.
-Requires at least one Kyber Crystal (embedded into the required crafting tool for creation, or loose for re-attunement)
