Name: Gnom
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Race: Goblin
Class: Warrior/ Tribe Leader
Religion: none
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Appearance: Clawing his way to the top of the food chain Gnom has endured many battle scares. He may have not been strong or taller than the past leader, but he has well built leg muscles allowing for him to move quicker and use his speed to his advantage. He has a flat face like most goblins and his upper body is rather gaunt. His tribe of goblins is traditionally known for having yellow skin and Gnom is no exception, his yellow skin brighter than the rest. Normally seen wearing his battle armor, it is made of leather and includes gauntlets, leg protectors, and chest armor. Seeing wearing a helmet as foolish he rarely wears one, and prefers to keep his head shaved at all times.
Equipment: Gnom inherited a round leather-bound shield and steel sword from the previous tribe leader when he killed him. Gnom also wears leather body armor on him at all times.
Magic: nope
Skills: Gnom considers himself a good leader, and often leads his goblin armor on many victorious war paths. Being the tribe leader Gnom is also a very good fighter and needfully so as he often has to fight lesser goblins for his position.
Personality:Having to claw his way to the top has had its effect on Gnom, he rarely trusts anyone and often is only out for himself. He also considers himself a cut above the rest as a result of so many failed attempts to take his position. Highly regarded as the smartest among the goblins even furthers his belief that he has no need to listen or even interact with his fellow tribe-mates.
History: Gnom was born the oldest of his family, he was cruel and bloodthirsty from the moment of his birth killing his twin as he came out of his mothers womb. Considering himself the best sibling he often ordered around his brothers and sisters, and when they stepped out of line he beat them. Upon his 20th birthday he decided to challenge the tribe leader to a duel and due to his greater speed and intelligence Gnom one the duel securing the position for himself. Leading his tribe on many raids has further increased his already stuffed ego, and when the first assassination attempt came on his life he dealt with it throughly, but has become paranoid ever since never taking off his armor. The further attempts on his life were dealt with in similar fashion, because of his rash decision. Though for all his physical and mental prowess Gnom is hated by his people but because of his position and their timidness they are stuck bending to his will.

Character Sheet

Name: Hephestus Enziel

Age: Unknown

Gender: Male

Race: Human (part shade)

Class: Necromancer - Sorcerer

Religion: Shar

Alignment: Lawful Evil

Appearance: Years of practicing the dark art have warped Hephestus. His skin has become pale, stretched over his bones, giving him a gaunt appearence. His His eyes glow with green balefire. He towers over mortals, long white hair framing his face, and falling down his back. He wears a black cloak over leather clothing, a silver web of runes covering it. A multitude of charms hang around his neck, many alike.

Equipment: Staff of fiendish darkness, Black onyx gems, pots of grave dirt and brackish
water.

Magic: Animate undead, create undead, desecrate, darkbolt, darkblade

Skills: Alchemy, divination, evocation, necromancy.

Personality: Hephestus is an evil and twisted person. He strives for Lichdom and immortality. He takes pleasure in the pain of others, and will gladly use them to further their own needs. He looks down upon other mortals, and upon his own 'imperfect', still living form.

History: Hephestus' birthplace is unknown. He was found by a nomadic tribe practicing in dark magic, using the Shadow weave. He grew up into their society, becoming intrigued by the path of necromancy. He was particularly interested in lichdom. The prospect of immortality. He began to look upon the mortals of his current tribe as pathetic. He decided to test his power.

One night, he killed them all. As he did so, he turned them into undead slaves. He traveled with his undead slaves for years, growing into a man. He gathered more in his lofe, particularly Kobolds. Their size and number made them perfect minions. He now resides in an abandoned mansion, furthering his plans for lichdom. Some say he is searching for the perfect item for his soul to reside within...

Lichdom is not exactly an acceptable way of life (or death) among the surface folk, especially the elves. That might help you out a little. Don't worry too much about magic and skills - they are a little hazy if you are considering what to have and not.

You don't have to be a lich to be necromancer - there are living beings who would be considered of that class, although it would be religiously connected. I only read one book series containing a lich, so my knowledge of them is not much better than you. It would not be wise to carry your phylactery: if it shatters, you're screwed, but hey, that's pretty much with any sort of lich. I don't know about the other series, but FR lichs can be separate from their phylacteries. Being a lich does not save you from physical harm - you can be cut to ribbons, but you will not die if your phylactery is safe. I do not remember how long it takes for a body to regenerate, but I would imagine several days. Recalling Gromph, Archmage of Menzoberranzan, fight a powerful lich mage, it took at least several days for the lich to recover from the battle. Gromph almost was killed trying to destroy the powerfully warded phylactery.

I am not sure about your decision to be part-shade. Shadow stuff is not touched much on in the Forgotten Realms too. It's been at least a year since I last read a book that contained those elements. I believe shades pretty much would be excellent night-time spies, as they can shift through the dimensions where there is shadow. But inter-dimensional travel is extremely dangerous, as you might end up within the nest of hungry and vicious monsters.

Sorry if I'm not being much help with this, as it seems not many have much knowledge of the FR series, but I'm trying to the best of my ability.

Balance, I read your goblin posts, and I have to say: your band is the first, that I know of, that eats other people and easily led without whips cracking behind them. Even I didn't expect that coming.

Let's see if I can give basic information that people need to start:

1. Know the races: Humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, halflings, and others. There are sub-races, but only the elvish sub-races are significant: Sun, Moon, Wood, and Drow elves are the most significant of the elves.

2. Know about religion: The Forgotten Realms is a very religious franchise. Practically every story you read will have at least one priest or cleric of whichever god or goddess he or she follows. In some stories, the higher deities tussle among themselves. In the Lady Penitent trilogy, two rival drow goddesses, Lolth and her daughter Eilistraee, sit down and play Sava (the gambling game of the Forgotten Realms: descriptions suggest it to be an equivalent of chess mixed with dice rolls), which plays a major impact on ~5 major characters in the material realm. At first glance, it does not seem very interesting, but these goddesses are betting their followers to destroy the other.

If you are going to have a character that holds fast to a certain deity, know what your deity can bless you with, which other deities would be considered your ally, and which would be your enemies. Some gods and goddesses are very competitive, such as Lolth and Eilistraee - they're practically polar opposites.

3. Remember that Faerun is a very big world. Unless you have teleporting or transportational spells/powers, it would take days, weeks, or even months to travel around.

4. Can't resist to add: Unless the character in question holds a position of great religious importance, it would be unlikely that he or she would emit any sort of aura.

5. On drow in particular: true, they are hated among the surface peoples, and have a hard time being accepted in society, but they still can honestly bargain with some surface folk.

6. Know the basis of your class: druids are often divided into groves, the places that they tend to, priestesses of Eilistraee are expected to sing and dance to the Lady of the Dance (that is Eilistraee's title), and so on and so forth.

There we go! i think that's ok. I'd quite like some constructive criticism, though, if there is any...

It would also be nice to know more darkness spells.

I'm thinking of making a blackguard, but we might have too many evil characters.
