Forming a Squad

Hey all! So as the title states, I've been toying with forming semi-permanent squads with my fellow IAF writers and wondered what the reception of that idea would be. Essentially, once and if the squad was formed we'd all take part in the same missions and more or less the same threads. Naturally, no one is beholden to the squad and can come and go as they please, but I believe it would give the IAF a sense of unity/community its currently lacking. The characters could form real bonds with one another and tell richer stories before it. Heck, it could even be done on a scale similar to the Black Company series, just obviously Star Wars themed and collaborative.

So, ladies and gents, young and old, what are your thoughts?

I would more than love to get involved in this with my stormtrooper still I'm a bit cautious since some groups tend fade away. But all the same I'm willing to give this a shot.

Itd also be realistic. I dont have an Imperial yet but I plan to and I think it would be a good idea. On the other forum I RPed on all squads/platoons/etc. were deployed together unless they got scattered or something. Granted that RP is more regimented and inclined towards large scale battles. If nothin else a number of people could agree to deploy together. In any case loosely formed squads with semi-correct rank structure would be easy albeit more time consuming.

I don't blame you, but I'm dedicated to my Stormtrooper, so there's what no worries there from me.

It would make more sense to join an established military group - like the stormies. You could all ask to join the 501st, as a squad within that legion?

I for one like the idea - but will not be joining - and would love to RP with the Squad with my (hopefully) naval man!

Well, geez. I gotta say: I wasn't expecting to have this much interest! Its kind of awesome, really. If anyone is worried about this proposed squad or platoon sized element being focused on one character over another, don't be. That would be a disservice to everyone who contributes to whatever thread each and every character participates in. It would strictly be a team effort. Granted, one PC would be in charge over everyone (IC) per military protocol and rank structure, however it would not be static. Once another person gets promoted to a higher position than the current squad or platoon leader, they take over.

As far as joining the 501st go, I'd (personally) rather have my character wait until he's earned it. I kind of like the fact that he is just another Stormtrooper and not a member of Vereor's Fist.

What we could do is start applying for this squad with character names, ranks and links and I could build a tentative roster out of that. If it ends up being more than 12 peeps, I'll make a platoon sized element and fill the rest of the slots with NPCs until others come along?

By the way, I'm open to names and designations for this squad/platoon. Likewise, the same goes for character nicknames or callsigns. You can either choose their own or one will likely be given to them. lol

This squad could be seen as a gateway into the 501st you know. Perhaps it's a bunch of handpicked Stormtroopers who, if they survive long enough, are taken into the 501st Legion?

BN and I have actually been working on making something similar to this a regular part of the makeup of the IAF. Currently we are tossing around the idea of having all PC Stormtrooper characters in the same overall Legion (501st) and then have squads within that legion.

Either way I am interested with my Sergeant Grif MikDonnal (link in sig) who is a scout/sniper and recently selected squad leader.

Fantastic! That's pretty interesting that we were thinking along the same lines.

I'll go ahead and add Grf to the roster as SL.

Unless anyone else actually states they want their char involved, I'll leave all those who were interested out until they do. No assumptions on my part. Also, once enough people are added to the roster, I'll start breaking it down (depending on how many Stormtroopers there are) further by Fireteams, assigning an ASL and ideally four Fireteam Leaders. So as to be fair, we'll put to a vote who should be ASL.

How does that sound?

Also, BFT course blows major balls. Its sooo boring. Inconsequentially, I did learn how to break a lock using a fire extinguisher today. lol
