Mahatma Nair waited in his seat as the nations of the Free East Asia and Australia would be coming. It would be good to work out a system that would be capable of providing a defence for them when the war were to come. Since India had the largest amount of man-power, it would be expected that they would be supplying many of the troops for the fight. However, Indonesia with large population would also be working for the good of alliance with their men. So once the other nations arrived, They would be able to plan a common defense.

President Damai Houshin of Singapore enters the conference room. Singapore, one of the most economically powerful nations in the region, is, without a doubt, meeting in the Free East Asian Conference. It is internationally known that he tried to create a diplomatic solution between Singapore and the alliance of Russia and China, to preserve the economy of Singapore. However, diplomacy failed to reach a valid conclusion. Through negotiation with the Communist nations, President Houshin gained several enemies, but not enough to exclude him from the conference. He sat down at his portion of the long tables, his desk tag labeled President of Singapore. He sees that Mahatma Nair is already present. He nods in the Indian leader's direction, then closes his eyes. The stress of the current situation is bogging down on him. Hopefully, this conference goes well.

Mahatma was somewhat glad that at least someone else came to the important meeting. Though he was waiting for far larger and more important leaders to arrive, at least Singapore could be part of the solution probably as a depot for many of the ships and troops as they would go around South East Asia and go to the border.

Seeing that he wanted to be polite, Mahatma walked up to the stressed out leader.

"Hello, I'm glad you could make it to this conference," Mahatma said friendily as he shook the hand of his fellow leader.

Houshin stood up and shook hands with Mahatma, pulling on a smile. "I am glad too," he said in his mixed British-Malayan accent, "it's been stressful lately."

As he shook hands, a dark thought came to mind. What if the Communist nations planned to end this conference?

Ambassador Marcel Provost had just arrived to the Free East Asia Conference. He was ordered by President Pierre LaRoche of France to represent France at the conference since France had territories in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and an alliance with eastern countries was needed, while President LaRoche was attending the First Conference of Nations in Switzerland.

Ambassador Provost came and greeted the leaders of Indian and Singapore. "Greetings, I am Ambassador Marcel Provost of France. I am here on orders from Monsieur President Pierre LaRoche to represent French Polynesia and other territories in the Pacific and Indian Oceans." Marcel held out his hand to shake the two leaders hands.

"Hello, Marcel." Mahatma said in some surpise as he hadn't expected France to be involved.

However, he was thinking about more than that, he was contemplating how the nations of East Asia would be able to resist the armies of two great powers with only one great power in the region and most of the others would be fairly weak. Mongolia would probably be a pushover as it was sandwiched between China and Russia. Though stronger, South Korea, would be under enormous pressure and would probably crack. In southeast Asia, they had a decent chance of throwing back the invaders as Vietnam had done to the Chinese some 50 years ago. Also, Indonesia could contribute a lot to the defence. India itself was surrounded by enemies. Pakistan to the west and China to the north constitued a great threat as China had won a war against India some 70 years ago though the threat was being prepared for. Fortunately, India did have many men and resources and could deal with multiple threats including ones in space since Mahtma was a leader of the space department at one point.

Ambassador Marcel went to the table and laid down his briefcase. He opened it up, and inside was a laptop computer. "Monsieurs, we must coordinate are armies to be effective. If China and Russia become hostile we must be ready to defend our lands." Marcel then viewed the French military presence in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. "Our territories are ready to defend themselves, but we can't assume Russia and China would be are only problems. The North Koreans may be a problem. But we must focus on avoiding this conflict first monsieurs."

Houshin shook hands with the French ambassador. "It is good to hear that at least some Western countries express their concerns for the growing crisis here in the East."

As the three talked, Houshin contemplated the current issues of the East. For years, China has been desperate to annex Taiwan to its territory. However, Taiwan has been allied to the United States, a major trading partner of China. The Taiwanese situation is very fragile, since a Chinese attack on the neighboring country can easily ignite war. He also fears North Korean involvement in the war, especially with confirmed reports of nuclear facilities. A nuclear attack on Singapore would easily remove the country from the war picture.

"Singapore is already placed at high alert. Also, I have ordered the Gurkha Contingent ((that's the Singaporean anti-terrorist unit)) to be on guard."

Marcel shook Houshin's hand. "We honestly are concerned about our territories here in the east, but we are helping you as much as we can as well monsieur."

Mahatma watched the two talk while he was contemplating what to do. Then, he had a new bit of insight.

"Considering that we are in a situation that is almost impossible to defuse, like a powder keg, what if we were the ones to ignite it? Since if we start it, we know what we are planning, and we will be the ones with the initiative. If they start it, we have only glimpses of their intentions and plans and can only hope to be correct about their plans. So I would suggest that we stir up some sort of a revolt that generate sympathy so we could move into China and Russia and have the initiative."

"Any sort of nuclear attack would obliterate Singapore," said Houshin, turning towards Mahatma, "I am looking at neutrality as of now. My political opponents will start pointing fingers if I announce that the nation is in a war-time situation. I would like to help end the crisis, but turning to violence can ruin the nation."

OOC: Sorry to interupt, but I just want to point out that no head of state would every publically say "I'm not going to do this because people won't vote for me". That hurts your credibility even more, because your people then realize that you're more concerned with retaining your office than doing your job.

Marcel sighed. "I would advise you keep statements about nuclear warfare obliterating your country to yourself. It is not wise to give the status of your country away to others. Even though this is a conference, none of us have officially been allied. Anyhow, make sure your borders are defended, but not to be appeared defended. You don't want Russia or China to know your strategy."

"Judging from current technology, it is difficult to deny the power of the weapons used today," answered Houshin, "the nuclear innovations that would, most likely, see use can easily remove the lesser nations."

Marcel looked at some data on his laptop, and turned to Houshin. "Any nuclear attack by China or Russia, monsieur, would be a gesture of foolishness. Nuclear weapons would make the environment unfit for humans to live in and the Soviets or the Chinese could not use the land. If they wanted Singapore, they will send soldiers to personally kill every Singapore man, woman, and child, make no mistake monsieur."

Prime Minister Kaishen entered the conferece room, his aides dispersing outside. ''I apologise for being late. Airport security was especially tight today due to rumours of a bomb.'' He took his seat, next to Houshin of Singapore.

"I'm not suggesting that we nuke them, I'm just suggesting that we create a rebellion within China that would be worthy of supporting, then go in and support it and then get rid of China and then Russia." Mahatma said clarifying that he did not wish to nuke them, just to be the ones that started the war.

"Our reputation would diminish if information leaks that we are the catalysts of the war," answered Houshin.

Nuclear weapons would make the environment unfit for humans to live in and the Soviets or the Chinese could not use the land. If they wanted Singapore, they will send soldiers to personally kill every Singapore man, woman, and child, make no mistake monsieur."

"Everyone is aware of the size of Singapore. The use of Singapore to the Chinese or Russians is limited to simply a vantage point for shipping supplies," answered Houshin, "any mistake can lead to catastrophic consequences."

He turns to the source of the incoming leader. "喜んでもらえてうれしいことができるように来る (I'm glad that you are able to come)," he began, speaking in Japanese.

He bows in respect, knowing the customs of the people of the sun ((that's the origin of the term Japanese - they believe that they are the children of the sun god)).

((used a translator :p I think it's like 80% accurate, but whatever. Adds flavor! Sorry if the OOC is known to you already. Putting the information out there for those who are not as knowledgeable about the Japanese.))
