Phidra works on the planet Takodana as a nurse.

Name: Phidra Kanste

Faction: Free Worlds Alliance

Rank: Nurse

Species: Lorrdian

Age: 35 years

Gender: Female

Height: 1.7 meters

Weight: 58 Kg

Force Sensitive: Yes (Untrained)

Home world: Lorrd

Appearance:

Phidra is a female Lorrdian, of average height and slender build, with olive colored skin and dark hair, with dark brown eyes. She is usually seen in light blue or white colored scrubs and her hair is covered by a cloth headband.

Attributes:
Phidra is well-trained as a broad-field nurse, having gone to medical school on Lorrd and worked on Coruscant. She has also been gifted with some potential in the Force, using her ablities to help heal in her line of work. The Force allows her to heal wounds at a slightly faster rate than regular medication might, as well as sometimes "see" what is going on within the inner biological workings of her patients. However, this ability is very limited and using it for long periods of time will leave her mentally and physically exhausted, so she only uses the Force as a last means when a medical issue perplexes her. For example, her abilities would be useful to stop bleeding in a patient with a laceration or blaster wound, but it would not be able to stop a terminal illness or heal a mortal wound. Her understanding of the scope of the Force is limited, and she has no interest in pursuing the path of a Jedi or engaging in combat with other Force sensitives. She is not able to perform the stunts a Jedi might, such as sprinting, leaping high distances, or using a lightsaber, and she is not able to read minds or influence anyone's thoughts. Her powers are limited to biological processes only; she cannot Force push or pull.

Personality:

Phidra is a kind, practical woman who is realistic in her moral views and aligned with the New Republic's standards politically. She comes from a working class family that tried not to involve itself in the greater workings of the Jedi or the Sith. As such, she does not see issues as black-and-white or right and wrong; she does believe in rights for all sentient beings and the freedom to pursue whatever path one might desire, but given the history of the Jedi Order and the fall of the Republic many, many years ago, as well as the years of war that have been fought between governments, she is uncertain if the Jedi are fit to serve the galaxy. Although the Force has bestowed some unusual power within her, she chose early on to keep her feet planted firmly on the ground and be straight forward in how she deals with people. Independent, succinct, and conservative in dress and manner, Phidra's traits have served her well as a nurse, giving her the rare opportunity to visit several worlds around the galaxy and treat all manner of species, encountering some unusual characters in her career. She was never married, but she did become pregnant at a young age, while still in nursing school. The relationship with her son's father did not work out, and she chose to raise her son alone, with the help of her family. Although initially she regretted becoming pregnant, years later she realized that the relationship she formed with her son, as a mother, had turned her into a warmer, more compassionate person.

Biography:

Originally born on the planet Lorrd, Phidra came from a working-class family. Her father was an intelligent architect and her mother elected to stay at home and raise Phidra and her younger brother. Fiercely independent even as a child, she decided early on to pursue a career in the medical field. Her original plans were to become a doctor and build her own practice on Lorrd, with the help of her father. However, Phidra became involved in a relationship with a male Lorrdian when she was a teenager which continued into her early twenties while she attended nursing school.

The relationship was adequate at best, because Phidra was certain she did not want to settle so soon, believing she had much more life to live and more people to meet when she became older and wiser. However, she unintentionally became pregnant, and was furious with herself for doing so while still a young adult. She chose to end the relationship with the baby's father before he could find out she was pregnant, and they never saw each other again when he moved away shortly after. It was not until three months into her pregnancy, while attending nursing school, that Phidra's potential with the Force blossomed.

Her very first experience came to her while she was sleeping, and it was like instead of being her own person, she suddenly inhabited both the body of her fetus and herself, suddenly aware of every minute detail of the baby, from his heart rate to his gender; she could feel the connection between them; it was the connection between them. It was frightening in a way, enough to jolt her from her sleep. At first, she thought it was a dream, until the same experience repeated itself night after night.

She, of course, knew the history of the Force and was aware of the Jedi Order, but she did not realize what the gift was until being tested by a physician.

Her blood tests revealed her midi-chlorian count to be around three thousand, slightly higher than the average person, but far below that of the average Jedi. The doctor explained that all sentient life had a number of midi-chlorians within them, but the higher the number, the more sensitive to the Force a person was. The revelation startled her, alarmed her in some sense, and initially she tried to suppress the gift as much as possible.

However, it allowed her to monitor the health of her growing baby at all times, and she realized while at clinicals during school that she could, at times, use the gift with her patients. With the pregnancy, her plans to finish nursing school and go on to attend physician school were suddenly dashed, and she settled for a career as a nurse.

After giving birth to a boy, named Terrick, and successfully finishing school, Phidra made the bold choice to leave Lorrd and start her own life on Coruscant with her infant. Her parents were supportive of her decision, as they had always been supportive of her while growing up.

In fact, her parents took care of her newborn for his first few months while she secured a nursing job with the Free Worlds Alliance and set up their apartment on Coruscant.

The first year of living on Coruscant with her new baby, alone, was probably the most challenging year of her life, but Phidra focused especially on her work and became passionate about improving the lives of her patients. She may not have gone to school as a doctor, but she was determined to do the best that she could. The living that she built for herself and her son was humble and practical, but she was content with what they had.

The nursing contract with the Free Worlds Alliance allowed her opportunities to travel to other worlds when she became too bored with Coruscant. Instead of working with just one facility or hospital, she floated around to several places, only able to do so because her parents offered to help raise Terrick on Lorrd so that she could spend a couple of months on planets like Bespin, Chandrila, Mon Cala, Corellia, and Naboo, to name a few.

Such a busy working schedule did not allow much time for a personal life, and after the disastrous first ordeal with Terrick's father, as she approached her thirties, Phidra became less and less interested in trying to pursue anymore relationships.

Her work schedule and the fact that she already had a child were often complications, and eventually she became annoyed with the effort of dating. In a similar fashion, she paid less and less attention to the greater going-on's in the galaxy between the Jedi and the Sith, and chose to reveal her healing ability with the Force only when absolutely necessary. It just made life less complicated, in her mind.

Since then, her interests mainly focus on her work, with the odd day spent for rejuvenation and self-healing in between jobs.

Her son has now entered his teenage years, and has developed interests in playing instruments and tinkering with machines. Phidra has always encouraged him to pursue what makes him happy, but regrets that she spent so much time away while he was growing up; more than half his childhood had been spent on Lorrd with his grandparents. At least, it seemed that way to her.

"And....there. That should be the last stitch. I had my doubts at first, but I'd say we've fixed this guy up nicely, considering."

Phidra grinned behind her mask at the self-satisfaction she detected in the Cerean doctor's voice. She had watched Dr. Vasara literally sweat over this patient for the last hour, and she was impressed with his steady hand during surgery.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Before she could congratulate him on his work, she heard a signal from the patient's monitor indicating his vitals. Her brown eyes scanned over the information quickly, and a puzzled expression troubled her face.

"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Doctor, but his blood pressure is dropping."

Dr. Vasara frowned and made a frustrated gesture with his hands, a scalpel in his left one. "How can that be? I just sewed up this farking wound."

Phidra narrowed her eyes, her mind racing. When this patient was originally brought before them in the OR, he had a gaping wound in his belly from a gun fight with members of a rival gang. These kinds of wounds were all too common on a world like Takodana, where on a daily basis criminals tore each other apart and it became the job of the medical personnel to patch them up. The Cerean doctor had patched up the hole in his stomach with a fine series of stitches, and no other obvious problems could be seen with the patient. What were they missing?

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Another alarm sounded, indicating the patient's pressure was dipping down towards the danger zone, and alarmingly fast.

"We need to do something! This one is going down fast." The doctor's voice had quickly changed from self-satisfied to worried.

Phidra deliberated for about another second, then sighed. "Give me a minute, Doc."

Dr. Vasara gave her a puzzled look from across the operating table, but Phidra did not offer explanation. Instead, she closed her eyes and allowed herself to relax, taking a deep breath. In an instant, she found herself in that all too familiar place, somehow a part of her body but also stepping out of it simultaneously. She could...."feel"...her mind leaving her body and drifting closer down to the unconscious human male before them.

Her vision seemed to zoom in on the stitches to his exposed belly, and she silently inspected them, looking for some sign of a bleed or something in the stomach that they had missed. She did not know how to describe it exactly, but she could "feel" everything that was moving within the patient, carrying on its respective biological processes, desperately attempting to survive. She seemed to "scan" the area of his belly, asking her mind to find anything that was out of place or unusual. Other than the organ damage and cosmetic disruption that they had just spent an hour and a half fixing, she could detect no issues. This man was young, strong, otherwise healthy - a true waste if he had been killed in some gunslinging contest with the Pyke Syndicate.

Show me what I'm looking for, she pleaded with the Force.

In a second, she felt something tugging her mind to look up, to look closer at his head. Her presence seemed to zoom out from the inner workings of the stomach and moved up his body to his head. She looked at his calm expression as he slept. The man may have been dying, but he looked peaceful, at least. She shook off the distracting thoughts and looked within, past the eyes, to his brain. She could...see...what appeared a map of his brain, could see every minute detail, down to the electrical impulses firing from neuron to neuron, powering his life force. She squinted, in her mind, peering closer at the details. And then it came to her - the blood vessels. Check the blood vessels.

She moved onward to the vessels of his brain, knowing to look for a bleed here of some sort. His brain was slowly bleeding to death, and she needed to find the source. Within a minute she had found the incriminating spot, a small tear in one of the vessels. Reaching out with the Force, she seemed to bring the two torn ends together, watching them as they closed on each other, and focused on repairing the tissue. She could see the very minute details of the tissue growing, slowly at first and then picking up speed, as she instructed the two ends to come together as one and stop the bleed. After another minute the small vessel had been repaired, and the bleed had been disrupted.

She redrew from the space inside the patient, coming back into her own body and retreating back to a normal viewpoint. The experience of coming back was always disorienting, and she wobbled slightly on her feet, taking a few seconds to regain her breath and slow her own heart rate. She opened her eyes to find the Cerean doctor staring at her with the same puzzled expression, but she ignored his questioning look, and focused on the man's vitals.

His blood pressure had stopped dropping, and was slowly coming back up to stabilize itself.

"He's stable now. I think we get to keep this one," she said, with a small smile behind her operating mask. "There was a small tear in one of his blood vessels; he must have hit his head quite hard after he took the hit and fell."

The Cerean doctor blinked in confused surprise, his shoulders moving up into a slow shrug as he tried to find the words to say.

"You....I have never seen that before. You seemed to go somewhere," Dr. Vasara said.

Phidra shrugged back at him in response. "I can't explain it, and it's not something I really enjoy talking about. It's...strange, but it works. It just works." She shrugged again, and sighed.

Dr. Vasara nodded after a moment, his thick white eyebrows still raised in confusion. "Very well. He should be the last one for today." The Cerean motioned to the other nurses gathered behind Phidra. She couldn't help but hear the soft mutterings of surprise going on behind her. "Take him away."

The patient was wheeled away to the recovery ward, and several minutes later Phidra found herself back in the wash room next to the OR, removing her mask and running her hands under the warm water. Dr. Vasara was quiet for a few more moments as he removed his own attire, and then he smiled down at the Lorrdian nurse.

"Why don't we get out of here? Dinner is on me...and you can tell me how you did whatever you did."

Phidra paused, initially wanting to object. But, after a moment, she sighed again, and a tired smile crept across her lips. "I....that sounds fine, Dr. Vasara."

She shut off the water and left the room, turning off the light as they left.
