DESCRIPTION
The Freefall-class starbomber is a medium combat spacecraft originally developed by Nubia Star Drives just prior to the Clone Wars. Meant for use by Republic-era defense forces, the Freefall was intended primarily as a multi-roll "utility" ship, able to carry a reasonable cargo and passenger load in peacetime, but also able to drop bombs, fight off enemy craft and land small ground units in wartime.

The Freefall is 30 meters in length, and is flown by a crew of 4, including a pilot, a gunner, a sensor operator and a bombardier. Armament consists of a single dual medium laser turret mounted under the cockpit, useful for defense and light ground attack, as well as a single bomb chute with a magazine of 20 unpowered projectiles. Passenger capacity is 10 soldiers with standard gear, plus up to 20 tons of cargo. Top speed is a respectable but not blistering 60 MGLT.

The Freefall initially sold well for Nubia, being picked by its target market of small system defense forces throughout the antebellum Republic. However, although it was well made and well liked by its crews, the type did not prove suitable for the high-intensity combat of the Clone Wars, and production was put on the back burner while Nubia filled Republic contracts on more advanced types. After the Clone Wars, production resumed during the early years of the Empire, the type's semi-obsolete design allowing it to skirt under many Imperial regulations on arms sales. They saw service on a number of worlds, and a number even found their way into the hands of the Rebellion through back channels.

In the present day, Freefall-class starbombers are uncommon, but can still be found in the military inventories of certain backrocket worlds. They have also proven popular with bounty hunters and mercenaries, being large and spacious enough to serve as mobile residences.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Freefalls are starbombers, and despite their obsolescence they are still subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from Legends canon into our site's fanon.
