It took a hit from the Doc and moved to try and separate her little head from her body and that was the kind of opening that Lorcan could really find a use for. When it turned it's body to attack Doc, Lorcan threw himself forward onto the creature's back. Wrapping his legs around the creature's waist, he grinned manically inside his helmet.

He had dropped his vibrosword in order to make the jump but that gave him a chance to use both of his hands to grab ahold properly as the creature immediately went apeshit and tried to shake him off. It was all Lorcan could do to laugh in delight as the massively powerful creature tried to shake like a dog to dislodge him but he held on tight.

"Oh you're energetic alright but look at me being all inconsiderate - lemma give you a reach around!"

If he had come in his Sith Armor, he would have had more options but he didn't need the wrist rocket or the flamethrower when he was this close. Moving his left hand, he palmed the side of the creature's skull from the side before laughing as he popped the button to activate the hidden blade, impaling the creature through the skull and into it's brain.

It screamed and flailed in an attempt to remove him.

Lorcan laughed and twisted and twisted some more, intent on trying to see if he could make the Infected creature actually feel pain.

Lorcan had lost his mind.

If she didn't suspect it before, she certainly did now. The man that was once deeply disturbed at the thought of killing now seemed to relish it.

...Now was not the time to be thinking of therapy. That would be afterwards.

The creature screamed, split features contorting in a spasm as black liquid gushed out from its' mouth aperture, and where Lorcan had stabbed through it. But she could smell the burn of it. Acid. The blood, it had to be acid. Or was it like one of those bigger creatures she and Sevrin met on Nar Shaddaa? It was dying, but it seemed it wouldn't die without one last fight.

"Lorcan, let go!" she called up to him. She could hear more shuffling coming from beyond where the creature came.

How many more were there?

Let go?

Well that was a rather loaded expression for the Mercenary turned Hired Sith Accomplice but he was intrigued why it was that Doc wanted him to do that. Probably not for any mental health reasons which, logically, meant that it was probably for some physical health reasons. It was at the same time that he began to feel something a bit off and he pushed off of the creature as hard as he could, landing further away from it.

It didn't take the brains of a Jedi Master to figure out what the issue was when the blood that had splattered his gauntlet was hissing as it ate away at the metal. His hidden blade had literally fallen off in the wound, the damage to the metal of the blade ruining it entirely.

"Well would you look at that - finally met someone as toxic as me on the inside."

Aha that one got close to actually hurting his own feelings actually - score. Thankfully said toxic big bad was dead as the public's belief in the Republic's ability to defend them from the infected. He pulled his gauntlet off, tossing it aside carelessly as he flexed his now bare hand a few times.

"Like I'm bloody naked..."
he muttered as he readied his blasters, "If their blood is acid - I'm blasting, Doc. I don't have enough blades to resist acid damage for long, you know?"

A creature lunged down the stairs at the two of them and Lorcan reacted instinctively, blasting a hole through the forehead of a young child. Even Lorcan froze up for a second before he noticed something... half the kid's head had already been chewed on. He let out a loud sigh.

"Oh thank the gods, I thought I was gonna have a lot of explaining to do or parents to kill..."

She gave him another sideways glance at his sudden freezing; perhaps not a total break, then. There was something of the old Lorcan in there. But she wouldn't rely on it. Sighing, she replaced the bloody blade and pulled out her own blaster, nodding once.

"Agreed. The time to collect specimens was over some time ago. Perhaps we ought to prove to those poor boys outside how to properly dispose of a problem?" She glanced back, cocking a white brow at him.

No need to collect samples at this point? Che.

Well if she was going to give him the green light to potentially wreck some of their raw material, Lorcan wasn’t going to say no to her. He knew well enough that sometimes a mission was just too dangerous to bother going after the secondary objectives and this was one of them. Living through their decision to enter was the primary objective and getting newer samples was the secondary.

He had standing orders to ensure that Doc survived, even if they were mostly just orders he had given himself. Lorcan didn’t want the Doc dead, especially since she was his best hope if he ended up getting infected with any of this shrak.

“Aye aye Doc.”

Grabbing his blaster rifle rather than the pistol after a moment’s thought, Lorcan took a deep breath before stepping into the stairwell. Immediately he opened fire with tight bursts of shots, taking down another two of the infected children as he ascended the stairs. An adult, recently Infected and not yet mutated, lunged at him but he ducked out of the way before kicking it’s knee in from the side, sending it tumbling down the stairs with a broken knee.

He trusted Doc to not suffer it to ‘live’.

Arriving at the next floor, he kicked the door open to reveal a rather large infected that may have been a Rodian at some point. But now it’s skin was like scaled armor, save for a small are near it’s lungs – Lorcan took aim and fired at the weak point… and was summarily sent flying back into the stairwell and down the stairs, covered in a foul-smelling liquid, as the infected exploded.

The sound of every infected in the area screaming as they started to run for his location was… not good.

“Oh… well bugger.”

As usual, he charged ahead, bolts flying. She ought to be concerned, but he was a stubborn man. A soldier at heart, but his commander was no one but his own mind. When the undead came tumbling down at her, she cursed once and shot it dead before its' teeth could gnash anywhere near her softer parts. Unlike Lorcan, she enjoyed living and what it offered.

She opened her mouth-- probably to scold him, probably to say something witty-- but an explosion launched the man back. Before she could fully react, his body slammed into hers, and they both tumbled down the stairs, her own body taking the brunt of his fall. She landed back to hard ground, snapping her jaw hard together, thankfully missing tongue and lip but still leaving her head ringing.

"What in the nine hells," she grunted, shoving out from under him, "was that?!" Amber eyes narrowed, then looked up.

Bugger was right.

"Higher ground," she ground out, grabbing his arm. "Come on. Anything broken?"

Explosions were not all created equal and the one from shooting the mutated infected Rodian wasn't as bad as he had suffered in the past but it was bad enough that he really didn't want to do it again. His chest hurt and his back hurt from the landing too. It felt like it had landed on something frigid and twisted...

"Oh, hey doc, sorry for landing on you."

That explained it perfectly!

Grunting, he pulled himself up to his feet and reached down for Doc. Unlike how it was in some of the holo dramas, he didn't ask her to take his hand or just stand there like a lemon and wait for her to take it in silence. Instead he grabbed her by the shoulder and yanked her clear on up to her feet with an almighty pull. Neither of them had the time to waste pretending that they cared about manners and all that.

"Partially armored fuckwit - weak point is actually some kinda fluid held under a lot of pressure. Explodes when shot with a blaster bolt is the bad news. Good news is it got fucking wrecked too."

Win-win he supposed.

He ignored the question about his own health - he was beginning to get concerned that some of his ribs had taken quite a lot of abuse but that was a question for later. They needed to get to higher ground and that worked for him. He took off up the stairs quickly, trusting her to follow her own advise and, you know, follow him.

"I'm gonna call in my gunship."
he told her as they ran up the stairs, a growing number of Infected trying to rush up the stairs behind them, "This many of these mealy mouthed motherfuckers needs more firepower than I'm carrying."

Her back ached. She was sure she at least broke a rib, if not two cushioning Lorcan's thick skull, and deep bruises elsewhere. Moving would prove to be difficult; nonetheless, she stooped to scoop up a hand from an undead and plonk it into an evidence bag to examine later, then sprinting to keep up with Lorcan's long-legged pace.

"Agreed. Though I could keep fighting these things a little while longer... I'd hate to be out of firepower when they come en mass."

Oh that was going to be the case and they both knew it. One thing you could always count on happening with the infected was that they would keep coming and there would be more of them. He wasn't sure if it wasn't the Gods and their sick sense of humor or what but it did make for any kind of battle against the infected some kind of hell slog that he really didn't want to get involved in like, at all.

Lorcan might not care for much but he really didn't want to 'live' as some infected waste of space. Death was an eventuality he had prepared himself for but semi-existence as an infected could fuck right off.

"Oh you'll have time to show off yet - crew gotta get the old bird up in the air first after all."

Reaching the fire escape at the top of the building, Lorcan burst through the door with his blaster pistol raised. Rather than infected, he saw there were a trio of un-infected people waiting for them with melee weapons. Lorcan utterly ignored their paniced state as he touched his comlink.

"Wake up you crusty fuckers, I need evac."
he demanded of his gunship crew, "Lock on my signal and pick me and one other up."

One of the trio came in close.

"You have a ship? You can take all of us!"

Lorcan moved the blaster, shooting out the man's kneecap before tossing him down the stairwell to act as a tasty distraction for the infected before locking the fire escape as best he could. The other two survivors cowered away from him as he continued the conversation as if he hadn't been interrupted.

"LZ is hot so be ready to come in guns blazing. What? No. No. Also no. No I literally do not give a crap about the local police force. Shoot them down too if they try to stop you, I don't care."
he cut off the com link conversation and turned to Doc, "Ship's on it's way. Think we should use the other two as bait as well?"

She repressed the urge to scowl with his blatant abuse of another life. There were some lines to cross, but this wouldn't be one of them. She turned, as though to try and grab the person as he tumbled down the stairs, but he was moving fast, too quickly for her to reach out without blowing her cover. By the time she was moving, the horde had already started catching up, and she heard the screams.

She backtracked quickly, shutting the door behind them. It would spare them some time, but not forever. At Lorcan's question, she shook her head once, her features grim.

"No."

She looked back at the entrance, and gripped her vibroblade and blaster tighter.
"Let's just keep the infected busy until your people can give them hell. They don't need bait to come where all the action is."

Even as she spoke, there were snarls, thuds. It wouldn't take long before they would breach, victims for bait or not.

No?

More like she would try and stop him if he tried it. Lorcan could see the way that the Doc had tensed up when he had thrown the pathetic excuse for a life-form down the stairs to be food for the horde and he could see that she was tensing more with every move he made. Did she think that he was going to try and fight her over it?

Hmm come to think of it, he wasn't opposed to the idea of it but he, equally, wasn't really in favor of said idea either. There was no strong feeling one way or the other but there was something that could change that.

"Not sure I like the way you're looking at me, Doc."
he told her flippantly with a grin, "Like you think there's something wrong with me."

Heh.

They both knew that there was plenty wrong with him but that wasn't the point. So long as she didn't act on the disgust she was feeling toward his actions then things would continue to go alright. Moving forward, he pressed the tip of his vibrosword against the door as the infected pressed up against it from the other side. He thrust the tip through the door and into infected beyond the door with a laugh.

"Ah almost makes me wish we could let them tear the door down so we can have some fun!"
he joked as he withdrew his now bloody sword, turning slightly to see the gunship in the distance, "My boys actually make themselves useful for once, who would have thought, eh?"
