Galactic Health Organization (GHO)​

The Galactic Health Organization (GHO) is, as one might infer, an organization dedicated to surveying the health of the galaxy. This includes: managing and maintaining health stations throughout the galaxy, aiding in the dispersal of vaccines, and reacting as first responders in lieu of a crisis. They are intergalactic and oversee planets within Free Worlds, New Republic, and Consortium space through representatives elected or chosen from each sector within.

S t r u c t u r e & L e a d e r s h i p​

The GHO is made of three representatives, one from the NR, FWA, and ISC, plus the Head of the organization. Each of these representatives manages key space stations that have been retrofitted for galactic health crises, with space being granted to medical corporations such as Morata Corp. Patients who are admitted pay a small standard fee for treatment.

Species data is consolidated information, and all stations are protected according to sector rules. Each sector can dictate which planets contribute, but as per the Senate agreement, they can choose to set up a fund to keep these emergency medical services running.

All this is overseen by a voted-on Head, who is the face of the organization and acts as mediator regardless of political alignment or representation as a senator. Non-political members can be voted into the GHO council to represent their sectors, such as doctors, Sector Rangers, or affiliates. In addition, each sector selects a representative to be in charge of GHO operations within the said sector.

H i s t o r y​

The GHO was first proposed to the Galactic Senate in 144ABY by Senator Korre Belasi and Dr. Ilana Morata in response to the galaxy’s poor management of the AMS virus. It faced little to no opposition in the Senate and was thereafter passed with Senator Belasi chosen as the organization’s head.

The organization worked to formalize its existence whilst also acquiring medical stations for use and helping to disperse the AMS virus vaccine. After Ilana declared the vaccine would be distributed for free, GHO moved to handle the distribution across the galaxy where distribution was not already being handled.

In the current day, the GHO serves its purpose as universal healthcare for members of the New Republic, Free Worlds Alliance, and Independent Sytems Consortium. After becoming Prime Minister, Korre Belasi resigned from her position as the GHO head and Dr. Gidebry Axsbet took her place.

Funding: The GHO received funding from the Galactic Senate which can be increased or decreased at the Senate’s discretion.

Stations: The GHO medical stations operate of out retrofitted space stations, which means there is no standard structure for their base of operations. Where it is possible, there is at least one medical station per sector, and medical stations can be accessed and used by any Galactic citizen.

Personal: GHO personnel are hired by individual stations from the sector they operate in. They vary from janitors to nurses to medical doctors.

Resources: Because the GHO is funded by the Galactic Senate, they have access to a wide range of medicines purchased through Senate funding.
