Riley had been trapped in a cell here for several weeks. Her past work with AMS finally caught up to her, and she was captured by Durr’s men. They had no desire to see a cure for the drug and they wanted to force her to work to manipulate it. They wanted to weaponize the infected and set them on targeted people.
Several other scientists had been killed already and her days were numbered. She was let out of her cell to work under supervision before being shoved back in when she was too exhausted to keep going. Her assistants had been killed, and it was just down to her and another girl directly out of university that barely knew anything.
She was malnourished and miserable, but she tried to stay positive for the other prisoner.
It had been hours since she heard a fair amount of commotion outside. There were shouts of the infected on the loose and utter chaos being unleashed. She was still stuck in her cell, too weak to move. She had been tortured before agreeing to do any work, and they even branded her with Durr’s insignia to remind her that she was their property.
“Hello?” Riley spoke out, her voice hoarse. She gripped the cell bars, trying to see what was going on.
