Swamps?

Swamps were karking awful.

Lorcan hadn't ever really thought about what he would need to prepare for swamp warfare but he had been forced to do just that before arriving on the planet. Standing in the bay of his gunship, he kind of just stared at the Sith who was coming with him on the mission. A mission on a dark and shadowy swamp planet and they sent him along with the Echani with the glowing eyes.

Spooky but were they gonna show up in the dark? Was she gonna get sniped at 500m because her eyes kind of just stood out like hell in the dark? Whatever, that seemed like a her problem and, thankfully, not a him way.

"Boss, we can't get you guys any closer than this!"

Lorcan rolled his eyes at Thing One holding the reigns of the gunship before shrugging a little bit. He was fine with hoofing it through the swamp a bit so long as the Sith didn't whine at all.

"We're gonna insert here alright Mahshi?"
he called out to the Sith in question before jumping from the extended ramp to land heavily onto the ground of the swamp, pulling his rifle around, "Lets shoot some swamp-people."

Was that politically incorrect? Sounded it but whatever.

Mahshi? Marasi wasn't sure how to respond to that. For starters she didn't know what the name meant, she was sure he wasn't calling her a stuffed vegetable, because if he was she might be obligated to challenge him to a duel. She would have to look it up some day, preferably after she had finished this mission and gone through a long and thorough showed to get the swamp off of her.

Even as she took her first step on the surface, a landing that the Force helped her pull off more elegantly than her companion for the mission, she knew she hated it here. She had never been to an environment such as this, and the logical side of her brain told her over time she might grow to be comfortable here. But she didn't want that to happen, in this instance she was very much on the siding with her emotional side which told her to just burn the place down. And she would have, but it would have made it harder to confirm if they had managed to eradicate their targets. So trudge through the swamp they would have to.

"That way," she would ultimately respond to Locran's query, pointing towards the heart of the swamp, "something festers there." She had noticed the man starting at her, and the general impression she left on people wasn't lost on her. It was something she could, and would, use to her advantage. If someone thought you were a spooky weirdo then they would expect you to act like one, and she could use that to surprise them if she ever needed to by acting not so spooky. So without saying more she would start walking towards the heart of the swamp, suppressing a smile as she walked past the man.

She was looking at him kind of weird... had his said her name wrong or something? He was kinda bad at remembering names, even of people he was supposed to give a shite about so poor little Marami had no hope. Whatever, if it was important enough she would probably tell him, right? She was a Sith so she couldn't be too much of a wuss otherwise she'd have been kicked out of sith school.

That was a thing, right? Where they learned their choking fetishes and the like, right?

She landed like a dainty little ballania and Lorcan was already beginning to suspect that Forcies were kind of sensitive to hard landings... which got added as a mental note for later. Looking around the swamp, Lorcan couldn't help but unknowingly agree with his Sith companion. As a city boy born and raised, Lorcan preferred it when the ground beneath his feet was reinforced duracrete, not whatever the kark this was. Because there was mud and then there was whatever the kark he was standing in right now.

And calling it mud felt like too little.

"This place sucks, remind me again why we didn't just bomb it from orbit and call it a karking day?"

Something about how it was supposed to be more personalised than just a generic orbital bombardment is what he half-remembered from a brief meeting about the mission. Hoofing it through the ultra mud of the swamp planet was not his idea of a good time but blowing it all up apparently wouldn't send the right message. Sure. Right.

Dead was dead as far as he was concerned.

"Literally or as in the people who live there are shittier than average?"

Though Marshi was directing him, Lorcan started leading the way. He might not be the biggest dude in the Sith armed forced but his armored bulk was enough to keep the slight Sith covered from ahead. As they squelched their way forward, Lorcan frowned ever so slightly as they approached a corpse of slanted trees. Holding up a hand for Marsha to stop moving, Lorcan inched closer with his rifle up, edging around the trees slowly enough to avoid making much sound.

The swamp person holding the rifle looked surprised to see him for the second it took for Lorcan to pull the trigger. Then it didn't have much of a facial expression past "melted".

"These karkers are ugly as hell. Think you're right about the direction though."

Marasi ignored his question about bombing the place, it was above her pay grade and most definitely above his as well. It didn't matter why they couldn't just bomb the place, neither of them were in a position to make that decision. So till they did get into such a position all they could do was follow the orders that were given to them. But she did pause for a moment as she walked, thinking on his question about whether she was being literal.

"Both," she said in response, "most definitely both." Whatever the little wannabe cultists of Malacia were trying to do, the results felt most unpleasant in the Force. But then what was to be expected from the failed students of a failed Sith?

She didn't object when he took the lead, she had shown him the general direction, he would probably be better at actually picking the right path to get them there. Having paused when he so indicated, she only walked up once she heard the shot. She was making her way towards him to inspect the downed figure when a rustle from the side suddenly drew her attention. What happened next was too quick for her to react to. A figure, probably attracted by the sound of the blaster fire, was charging straight at her from the side. In the moment before it slammed into her, she found herself focusing on the weird manner in which it charged. It seemed humonoid, but there was something weird about the way it moved, something wrong. Realization hit her at about the same time as the figure slammed into her as well, it had moved on all fours, like a feral beast.

She couldn't think beyond that as her body switched into survival mode. Years of training beaten in her took over, and probably saved her life. She let her body go limp, not resisting as the thing slammed into her, letting them both fall backwards. But at the same time she reached to the Force and pushed. She landed on her back, but the thing was pushed up, its own momentum carrying it tumbling past her.

She rolled and came up to a knee, attention on the creature as it snarled and righted itself. It seemed like something out of a nightmare, one of the locals, but corrupted by whatever the shamans had done to it. "Think that's an improvement in the looks department?" She asked Locran as she spotted another similar figure emerge from the mists, stalked them on all fours. They were most definitely on the right trail.

So she wasn't much of a talker but she had enough to say when she wanted? Well kark, that was going to make the rest of the trip at least slightly less fun. He always preferred it when he managed to get a rise out of people when he spoke to them. Lorcan was well aware that he was an arse after all; the fun part was when people reacted badly to that. Even if it didn't end up in violence, having someone get so upset at him never ceased to amuse him.

"Great."
he muttered, "Gonna need a shower after this one..."

He was busy wiping some of the splattered skin and blood that had gotten on his armor. It was probably a losing battle but he didn't want to risk bringing much of their disgusting, mutated, flesh back onto the ship with him. Not even for medical reasons; they just stank to high heaven.

Spinning around at the sound of something rushing through the undergrowth, Lorcan was NOT prepared for one of the creatures to come charging through on their hands and feet like some kind of mentally deranged scaley or some shite. He gritted his teeth, unable to get a shot off while Marshai was so close to the damned thing.

Lorcan would prefer to avoid having to explain how he had accidentally killed an ally to Stolas; it sounded expensive. With the addition of the second creature, Lorcan strapped his rifle to his back and instead drew his vibroblade in his right hand and prepped his wrist blaster on his left wrist. Slowly, he edged closer to his Sith ally.

"I'll take the one on the right."
he told her quietly, "See if we can do it quiet; they came fast. Might be sound that draws em."
