Model:
Stiel Industries Ghostplate Light Body Armor
Weight:
5 kg
Composition:
Lightweight plastic-based composite
Helium gas
Electrically restive rubber
Rating: 2/10
The thin plastic plates of a suit of Ghostplate armor are designed to protect against physical trauma such as a punch or the concussive force behind a (reasonably distant) explosion, while the underlayer protects against electrical shocks and to a lesser extent cryo damage. The plates provide next to no protection against military grade small arms, including pistols, although protection against shrapnel is still maintained. The only exceptions to this being glancing pistol hits and blaster or laser pistol hits to the thicker pectoral plates.
Modularity:
By custom order only.
Description:
The central theme behind the development of the Ghostplate armor was to develop the least restrictive armor suit possible while still maintaining full body coverage. Every composite plate is lightened by injecting small pockets of helium gas directly into the body of the plate, reducing weight at a minimal reduction in structural integrity. Each plate is then applied in a layered fashion to the rubber body glove, allowing the plates to slide over or under each other during complex motions. The end result of the design was a suit of armor that admittedly was not the most protective, but was nearly as light as typical everyday clothes and caused no restriction to the range of motion of the wearer.
The armor is listed on the civilian market for 9,999 credits and comes in all colors, with options for custom designs. For an extra 1,500 credits, the buyer's build and full range of motion can be scanned by a certified technician to produce a fully customized suit of Ghostplate, tailored to the wearer's exact physical form and limitations.
Disclaimer: Contrary to the name of the Ghostplate Light Body Armor, the armor does not boast any stealth systems. SI takes no responsibility for the visibility of the wearer under any circumstance.
