DESCRIPTION​

The Golan-class defense platform is a massive, powerful space defense station which is both the namesake and most well known product of the Golan Arms corporation. Eclipsing a star destroyer in size and armed with more firepower than all but the heaviest dreadnoughts, the Golan is the last word in planetary defense, standing sentry over major worlds across the Galaxy.

The Golan is massive, some 2.6 kilometers in length, bristling with nearly 100 dual heavy turbolaser turrets in dorsal and ventral mounts, along with nearly 150 light turbolaser casemate guns located in the trench around its perimeter, and nearly 200 quad medium laser turrets for engaging fast-moving enemy fighters and bombers. There are also dozens of proton torpedo launchers and tractor beams, as well as 2 squadrons of 12 starfighters and/or light starbombers. The station has an optimal crew of just 1,200, mostly consisting of gunners, engineers and command staff.

Although the Golan is largely immobile, it is equipped with enough motive power to crawl along at a lethargic 5 MGLT, fast enough to change orbits in order to counter the approach of an incoming fleet. In actual combat, the Golan is largely restricted to maneuvers to bring its weapons to bear more effectively.

In general, Golan-class defense platforms are a tough nut to crack, designed to take on waves of conventional enemy warships and last for months under siege. Combatants required to take down a Golan are advised to consider unconventional tactics, such as surgical starfighter strikes, sabotage and other options.

In the long stretch of relative peace following the First Order-Resistance War, many Golans were mothballed as an unnecessary expense by various planetary and sector governments. Since the flare-up in hostilities across the Galaxy, many are being reactivated, and more are being built at the request of wealthy systems wishing to ensure they are left alone...

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Although available on the open market, Golan-class defense platforms are military installations and are thus not generally available to civilians.

RESTRICTIONS​

Golan-class defense platforms are not easy or cheap to obtain, being military products. They are typically faction assets, or can be found in use by local NPC forces. They are not something the average player character may obtain on their own.
