Gonda was a planet in the Outer Rim. There wasn’t much written about it in the database. It was a terrestrial world and, at least in one section of its surface, the terrain was flat grassland flanked by mountains front and back.

In the east, there swept the sea beyond the green; blue as sapphire, like gems dancing on the horizon, but so very distant. In the west, no ocean or mountain, but the breadth of more steppe; bereft of forest, except further inland toward a river, with only grass on flatland.

Closer inward, toward the center from a certain perspective, there rested a settlement; one in a number. A homestead served as the seat of a farming community focusing on grazing beasts and raising fruits and veggies; livestock as much as crop.

Only, the inhabitants had recently been dealing with attacks on their cattle from local predators and were too uncertain of how to battle them. They were dangerous creatures, preying in the evening.

Certain equipment had been broken in the commotion, and one person had gone missing. So the farmers sent word for assistance, for peacekeepers or Jedi or whoever and, given no outright deaths were reported just yet, a pair of Jedi less than Knights were sent in. For them, this was as much about exploration.

One was a Padawan. Her name was Leh’Min’Ayd. She flew in within her ship, the Purple Girl, and landed the Pathfinder into an open field beside the settlement. She exited her cockpit, garbed in a simple outfit fitted for the environment.

The climate was temperate during the day but at night it could get frigid. Whatever the case, Leh’Min’Ayd stood outside her scout ship beside the arrival of her companion. Then they would head to the settlement.

___T'vani scrolled through a datapad of information about the planet Gonda. It was a habit she had picked up from her master, Hassan. Whenever the girl was assigned on a mission, she spent ample time studying the planet, its culture, and every detail about it to be as familiar as possible before arriving. She barely noticed when the shuttle touched down not far from the Togruta's, brought to attention only when the pilot beckoned her. With an apologetic smile, T'vani grabbed her belongings and disembarked.

___"Let's see," T'vani murmured, perusing the dossier she was given prior to leaving. Her hand wandered to her hip, resting atop the long hilt of her training sabre as she scanned the datapad. She looked up from the device, her gaze roaming over the denizens until she spotted her fellow Padawan. "There she is," the girl mused aloud as she stowed her datapad and proceeded towards her new companion.

___"Hello!" T'vani called out, raising an arm to wave and catch the other girl's attention. "I'm T'vani! It's nice to meet you!"

Outside her cockpit, her ship, the Purple Girl, the purple girl stood within the wind. Gently, it eddied, not heavy; a swirling breeze wrapping around her body, between her fingers, as she lifted a hand to the sun’s rays dancing on her face.

It was still warm at this time of day, but the night would of course grow cold. Old world. The girl thought, not in judgment but in respect. Isolated away from politics and the machinations of space…

She sighed, glimpsing beasts grazing. Wonder what this planet’s steak tastes like— A greeting just then. A ‘hello’ from another person. Leh’Min’Ayd turned to face the way of her companion’s attention. No Togruta but a Fiani.

“Oh!” Lem waved back. “Hello, hello!” A moment later and the pair of girls were at one another’s side. Both were Padawans, by any semblance in definition, and would work in unison to determine the nature of this settlement’s predicamentand cure its ailments in turn.

“Leh’Min’Ayd!” She named with a handshake. “Don’t know about you but I’m as hungry as a mynock on an empty rock.” Gestured toward the homestead where others were expecting them. “Head in for a discussion? Or ya wanna check the perimeter first?” Lem was ready for whatever—especially eating, however.

___When the Togruta introduced herself, T'vani beamed happily. She reached out to shake the other Padawan's hand as it was offered.

___"I'm pretty hungry, myself," T'vani laughed. "Let's go get some lunch. We can talk about what's going on and what to do while we eat," she said, gesturing for Leh'Min'Ayd to lead the way. As they entered the nearby cantina, T'vani reached back to remove the datapad again. They navigated to a booth and sat, the Fiani electing to sit across from her new companion. Pulling up a map of the settlement's perimeter and defences, T'vani slid it across to the Togruta.

___"This is the village layout," she said. "According to some reports I read on my way here, most of the attacks come from the south, followed by the east," T'vani elaborated, circling the areas the predators moved in from the most frequently. Small, red triangles appeared on the screen to represent the animals, while yellow triangles representing the cattle popped up a short distance away. "I think it would be best to try and come up with some traps, as well as station most of the village's defences on those walls..."

___T'vani stopped as the waiter approached to take their orders. Once she instructed the man what she wanted, she waited for Leh'Min'Ayd's input before speaking further.

Inside the cantina, where a live band played, Leh’Min had almost forgotten about their mission as she grinned at other people’s plates on the way, looking for inspiration.

To the booth, eyes glued to the map of the settlement. There were limited defenses to begin with as expected given the circumstances of these attacks.

South. East. Leh’Min bounced a finger on her lip in thought. That means these beasts are coming from their lair or whatev in the same direction. “Yep. I agree.” At that, the server came for their orders.

“Heya! Can I please get steak and eggs annnd . . . ” Leh’Min ended some side dishes later with a cup of coffee. She tapped the datapad’s screen.

“Looks like the walls need to be repaired. Villagers prolly never bothered to maintain 'em since it’s a pretty peaceful place outside of these raids.” Granted, she wasn’t that familiar with animal traps. “Bet the villagers could help us with the setup.”

Defending the settlement took priority so that nothing worse happened, however there was another important objective in this mission.

“Need to investigate that missing person, too. At the same time, we can scout out where the hett these creatures are coming from, maybe?”

There was the concern that said person might be in the lair of said beasts. Their disappearance may or may not be a coincidence.

T’vani’s turn to offer input a moment later as the server returned with their drinks. “Thanks, buddy!” Leh’Min sipped her coffee and listened, relaxed. “Ahhhhh…” Delicious!

___After Leh'Min'Ayd placed her order, T'vani looked up from their preparations to make hers. The girl ordered a bowl of steaming hot mushroom and fennel soup with bread, as well as cheese and leek turnovers. For drinks, she requested a cool glass of rosehip tea. Once the server left, T'vani returned to her discussions with the Togruta about reinforcing and protecting the settlement.

___"If they don't have the supplies to repair their walls, I can teach them how to make walls out of rammed earth. That should be more than enough to help protect them against the animals in the future," she elaborated, rubbing thoughtfully at her chin. T'vani furrowed her brow when Leh'Min'Ayd mentioned the missing person. The Padawan sighed quietly through her nostrils, her lips pursing as she mulled over the idea.

___"We'll need to decide which to do first," T'vani murmured. "If we leave the settlement to begin searching without reinforcing it, they could be attacked again. On the other hand, the longer we wait to begin searching for her, the more danger she might be in." It wasn't an easy decision, but it needed to be made all the same. The girl was briefly distracted from ruminating when the server returned with their drinks. With an appreciative smile, she reached out to take the drink.

___"Thank you," she told the server as she lifted it to her lips to take a sip. "Well, what do you think we should do, Min?"

Leh’Min nodded in satisfaction as she considered the suggestion of using rammed earth. She didn’t have a shindig what ‘rammed earth’ was but it certainly sounded sufficient as she sipped. Maybe ya smack it. Slam it in! Pack it. Hammer it in with your FISTS? Maybe.

This coffee really was dang delicious, however. Leave it to farmers who knew their brew as much as their food. Blowing through her lips, Lem considered their options. T’vani was right: they had two majorly important decisions.

“I think…” She looked around at the patrons in this cantina. They looked healthy, ready; less out of their element but maybe a bit out of practice when it comes to defending settlements and sending out search parties. That settles it!

“I think we should lay out the basics of defenses to these farmers. Give them the setup, let ‘em get set up. We’ve got tech to offer schematics. Farmers surely know how to follow instructions, hum?” More a rhetorical question.

“Meanwhile I figure as we search for this missing person then we might encounter another attack along the way before it even gets to this farmstead.”

Lem shrugged, feeling confident, for better or worse. “Then we slap the hett outta them and make ‘em wish they had picked another settlement!” Cleared her throat. “The creatures, I mean. Not the farmers. Sabada.”
