"And finally we arrive at the fourth and final match of the first round!" said the Troig. "You know the drill, folks; let's get a look at that arena!"

More images, cycling quickly, landing upon the sand arena. The HoloNet camera panned to the arena itself. It was another square arena, filled with sandy dunes. The loose sand rippled and rose into dunes several feet tall, scattered throughout. In the center of the arena was a ruin-like structure made of square stone blocks. It did not, however, resemble a building, but a large and tall platform with handholds along its length and height. The platform seemed to be built randomly, with squares missing from the base and the top, creating a geometric battleground. Similar structures were placed near the four corners of the arena, but were narrower and taller, looking like unstable towers.

"I suspect the Dune Sea on Tatooine was the inspiration for this one, don't you?" one Troig head said to the other. The other replied, "Or the ruins in the great desert on Wecacoe!" Both heads nodded. "Perhaps, but who cares! Our audience wants to meet the contestants! So, here they are! Our first contestant is somewhat of an enigma, folks! We don't know where she's from, but sponsored by Miwa the Hutt, is Dahlia (@Sreeya)!" One head turned to the other and murmured, "She's kinda young, don't you think?" Both shrugged. "Her opponent is one of our own and hails from Eshan—that's right, folks, a real Echani warrior! It's Habibah Grata (@Darasuum)! Now, let's get a look at what they will be using!"

Hutt Gladiator Armor

This armor takes its stylish queues from the armors utilized by shock and riot troopers around the galaxy, tailored and adapted by the Hutts for gladiatorial bouts. The armor is pretty simple plastoid plate affair, layered over a simple jump suit, designed for parts to be easily repaired or replaced as they are destroyed in the arena. The suit is somewhat more protective than many other armors used in the grand tournament and is typically paired with jump boots, a heavy shock absorbing shield, a stun club, and a ranged weapon. This heavy load out makes for some of the most exciting and unpredictable battles in the arena. The armor comes in a variety of colors, both solid and in garish patterns, chosen by Hutt financiers to be worn by fighters they are sponsoring. This clash of color and sponsorship logos makes the event a popular one for gamblers.

Type and Coverage

Type: Medium Armor.

Coverage:
  • Head: Plastoid open faced helmet with spines protecting the jaw and a fold down visor
  • Torso: Plastoid segmented breastplate ending just above the beltline
  • Back: Plastoid segmented breastplate ending just above the beltline
  • Hands: Plastoid bracers and gloves
  • Feet: Plastoid shinguards and knee pads

Function: Jump Boots
  • This rare and expensive technology is able to propel a person up to 10 meters beyond what a normal person would normally be able to jump, especially when armored. It is not capable of sustained flight, and requires a brief engine cool-down before it can be used again (1 post cool-down).

WEAPON TYPE

DESCRIPTION
The 1-48 Stun Baton is an unexceptional model of stun stick- the catch all term for blunt melee weapons like batons or staffs, which generate a stun field by way of a standard power pack. This particular product is sold in great numbers to numerous law enforcement agencies and security firms throughout the mid and inner rim. It accepts standard blaster type powerpacks, which are inserted into or affixed to the base of the club, and which provide 10 stun charges which are released on contact with any solid or energized surface. The light weight design means it deals very little physical damage- it hurts to be hit with, as many criminals will attest, but it typically does not cause any permanent damage. Instead, a successful strike imparts a stun blast equal in strength to a standard medium stun bolt- a direct hit on an unarmored head or torso will often render the victim unconscious, while hits on unarmored limbs will render them momentarily useless. Armor protects the wearer to a degree, but successive strikes provide a "bleed-through" effect, progressing from a sharp shocking sensation to the aforementioned unconsciousness.

LEGALITY
Legal in nearly all systems, and in some places a preferred alternative to blasters.

Dueling Pistol

AFFILIATION
Hutts

MANUFACTURER
Grand Coliseum Artificiers

SIZE
.1m

WEIGHT
2kg

COMPOSITION
Chromium plating
WEAPON TYPE
Stun Blaster

DAMAGE TYPE
Heavy/Stun

AMMUNITION CAPACITY
5

FIRE SELECTOR
Semi Automatic

MAX RANGE
25m

DESCRIPTION
A flashy and ornate stun pistol, custom built and overcharged specifically for use in the Hutt's grand tournament, paired and matched with an equally dramatic looking set of dueling armor. Other than their fancy gold plating, the pistols feature a handy digital round counter on the side of the frame. The pistols circuitry is typically burned out by the end of each tourney match due to the high amount of energy moving through the weapon. They are expensive to create, and the power cells are built in- making them a one time use weapon. This would be incredibly impractical on the open market, but the Hutts spare no expense for their entertainment.

A less flashy looking and more cheaply assembled version is used for other gladiator matches that are not intended to be as stylish.

"Wow, these guys are decked out!" the announcers shouted. "But their guns don't have any extra power packs, so they'd better conserve their shots!" A pause. "But that's enough from us! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the fights folks! This has been the first round of the Grand Boonta's Eve Tournament. Let this match... BEGIN!"

Alais was less than thrilled to be out here. In fact, she was beyond terrified at doing this. Unlike the others, she didn’t sign up for this. She was forced into this by Miwa, as he seemed to believe she would win him a large amount of credits. Alais walked out into the arena and could already hear laughter and people mocking her about her stature.

Instead of putting every bit of the armor on, she put on all the sections but the front and back torso portions to allow her mobility. She had her baton and pistol ready to go, though she worried about the limited shots in the pistol. The sands were hot and the sun was beating down on her, beads of sweat lining her body already. With no armor protecting her torso, she knew she was taking a risk, but she also knew she would be moving quickly. Besides, she also had the over the top ridiculous shield..

Alais had the shield on her back as she quickly rushed into the arena, ensuring no one was coming at her. It was only then that she activated the jump boots. She tucked in her legs and elbows as she jumped so any incoming attacks or shots (though she didn’t see anyone just yet) would be caught by her armor. On the back, her shield covered her entirely, one of the few advantages of her being small.

She landed on top of the center platform and quickly scanned the area for where her opponent was. She had a complete view of the place and she was the first to reach the top and would be able to see her opponent coming. Alais took the shield off her back and placed it in front of her as a wall, ducking slightly beneath it and peeking from above or the side after ensuring her back was clear. From her vantage point it wouldn’t be simple for anyone to get to her easily. She could see anyone coming for quite a distance away, her eyes especially on the lookout for anyone trying to duck behind one of the other towers or sand dunes.

The holo projector in front of Habibah gave a similar view as one to remote observers. The dunes from an arial point of view and the entrance of the young female she was facing. Why couldn't it have been snow. The only sign at her displeasure was a sigh that reminded her she needed to brush her teeth.

The armor she wore was all white, complimenting her similarly colored skin. The Echani had caught the words from the announcer and wasn't sure if he had been talking about her. In truth the shield she had was literally longer than she was tall. Habibah wouldn't even have to crouch to avoid being struck by any shots.

Apparently they weren't all entering the arena in the same manner. In Habibah's case she had the joy of free falling nearly twelve meters on the top platform. However it seemed her opponent had already arrived and waiting. The arena provided entry ship had armed her and hyped her up, even offered a drink and a stim but she had declined to all of those vices for this event. However they did not allow her to use any of her equipment until she left its confines. She had been tempted to use the stun baton on one of the 'staff' just for a look he gave her earlier. Today she would use jump boots for the first time in a rather risky situation. On the other hand her opponent probably thought she would be coming in from along one of the walls. A virtical entrance would be rather unexpected for Habibah if the roles were switched. But by some hunter's opinions she was still a green horn.

When exiting Habibah didn't jump, she just dropped. Her shield held along her left arm facing the ground. Her stun blaster in her right hand poking around along with her aiming eye getting a birds eye view as she came hurtling towards the opposition. She fired twice knowing one would probably miss. The manner in which she approached was different from what she was used to.

The meter before her shield would strike the ground the Echani would activate her jump boots. This would not send her back up, nor mitigate her movement downwards. Instead it would fire her off horizontally. The downward force would be lessened as the laws of physics took over and sent her body in a new directions. The shield was like a sled, protecting her white form from the abrasive surface of the rock plateau.

Alais whipped her shield around to block any shots. As the jumpers only had limited capabilities and did not cover the range her opponent was free-falling nor work how she seemed to think, Alais watched with clear confusion and bafflement as her opponent landed and snapped her legs, immediately shattering them on impact.

Her lack of knowledge in how the jump boots showed on all of the holonet feeds that focused on her. None really felt it though, none except for Habibah. She was on her side gritting her teeth and swearing in her native tongue without holding back. She rolled causing her only more pain but brought her shield with her so that it was on top of her and between the open shot the young girl had at her. She hadn't made any finishing move probably due to the overt stupid spectacle the echani had made.

Habibah was going to never live this down, she knew right then and there. She fired another shot at the girl's center of mass as she lay there. If before she was worried about losing it was almost a certainty now. "Never seen somebody fall three stories before?" she said with a smile trying to hide her pain. She had been injured before and she knew there was no walking out of this. This is what happens when she competes for sport and not a survival related pay day.

Alais grimaced at the sight of the woman on the ground with her mangled legs. It was a disgusting sight, and she was surprised she could talk at all, let alone move. Alais already had her shield in front of her, so when the shot came, it harmlessly came against the surface of the shield. The young Jedi said nothing, simply crouching behind the shield now taller than she was and at a safe distance. She didn't launch any attacks of her own, waiting for the woman to simply pass out from the excruciating pain like she would within moments. She didn't even dignify the pathetic woman with a response, the entire stadium around them buzzing with laughter and chatter about the most bizarre outcome to a fight ever.

The Troig announcers blinked once... twice... neither head could wrap itself around what both were seeing. The match had literally just began... and it was already over?! The announcers pulled the microphone closer and the current HoloNet feed panned to their confused faces.

"Well, folks, I don't know what to tell you," one head said. "In a stunning entrance, it would seem that the Echani warrior Habibah has... defeated herself? What an upset! But, that just goes to show you, anything can happen today, everyone! So keep your eyes peeled to the other matches!" Both heads looked at each other, then back to the cam. "As for this one? The result is pretty clear. The victor—who really looks quite queasy right now? Could someone check on her, please?—is Dahlia!"
