Hi Everyone,

I'm new to Role Playing via Forum, but definitely been addicted and poking around the Star Wars universe for the last 12+ years. Came across this forum when I was on Google looking up Star Wars and Role Playing after being introduced to role playing via forums through a friend. I love RPG games on the PC and in general, but I've never been part of a forum dedicated to role-playing. At first, I was quite skeptical of how entertaining role playing via forum could be, but after reading a few stories I have been converted! I've read most of the rules and have tried to familiarize myself with a lot of things, although I do think I have many questions that will need to be answered in the near future, so bear with me! Any words of wisdom or random tips will be taken gratefully.

I can't wait to become part of the community, and I have a character in mind. Still in the process of hashing out the details, but definitely excited about the prospects of diving into the Star Wars universe. I have always told people that if I could become part of any fictional universes/settings, it would have to be either the Star Wars universe, the wizarding world of Harry Potter, and the world of One Piece; in that specific order. Middle Earth and the Lord of the Rings setting would likely be an honorable mention, but I cannot wrap my head around living without technology.

Anyways, I'll wrap this up before it becomes a wall of text nobody bothers to read.

You will notice that unlike RPing in SWTOR or in games that you have absolutely full freedom ('Murica) to roleplay in whatever setting you wish (within site rules of course, though breaching them is usually rare.) and enjoy yourselves thoroughly without the constant interruptions of trolls that you'd find ingame. However, you are subject to waiting for the opposite party to reply, and the waiting periods differ between other people on site. It is slightly longer to roleplay, but immersion effect is way better, as with the flow of the storyline of your characters.

So enjoy your permanent stay here, because there is no key and a thousand locks. Welcome to eternity with us forever. no way out. Watch out for Weiss's puns and Jiang's feline musk. Just a few questions before I continue planning out my first character.

1) Which parts of space belong to which faction at this point in the timeline? I understand that Hutt Cartel has control over Nal Hutta and Nar Shaddaa, but after that I am quite clueless to which planet belongs to which as the other factions don't have a list of occupied planets. This is going to be important for me to determine a homeworld and devise a background storyline.

2) Am I allowed to for example, have a character who has been trained by a Jedi but not part of the Jedi faction, but part of another faction? Or a Hutt Cartel member turned Rebel? Would that require me to apply for membership in both factions, or just the current one?

3) I noticed after a quick scroll-thru of the five most recent pages of new characters that Rebel members were by far the least popular. Would creating a character with this faction limit the opportunities I have to join missions?

You need to get approval for the 'backstory' faction, and then sign up to the new faction. Its not impossible, but there are certain rules about characters being at certain "power levels" (specifically Force-sensitives) - basically unless you've reached that rank on the site previously, all your characters start at the Padawan/Acolyte/Beginner level.

Without putting a stain on it? Probably a bit, yes.
Conversely, though. You joining up could start a trend (its been known to happen), and then the Rebels could enjoy a bountiful few weeks of new members!

I will say that there are some really good story lines coming up to spice things up soon for all factions, so there's really no reason to go for one faction over another, except for the story you want to tell with/about your character.

This answers almost all my questions. I won't try to make anything incredibly overpowered, but where/who would I ask for permission to approve my backstory? Also, maybe it's just me, but the link you gave me with the faction map is exactly the same size as the one you posted.
