My favourite timeline memory was when I made a character and didn't do anything with it.

Actually, that's not true. I tried training this sith Zen guy but killed him instead. He was a shitty writer.

Star Wars Legacies
The First Anniversary

Fireworks.jpg

Happy first anniversary to Star Wars Legacies, the fifth and current timeline of the site!

In the past year, we’ve had our ups and downs. From the return of the Skywalker family to the Mandalorian Civil War, from the successes of the Sith to the inactivity in other factions, from the fall of the Imperial Knights to the rebirth of the Mandalorians as a greater faction. We’ve been through a lot, but we’re still here and we’re still having fun!

So what’s the story so far? In the beginning, the Sith had been in the final stages of preparations for the war efforts against the Jedi and the Alliance. When the time was right, the Sith struck, destroying The Will of the Force, the Jedi flagship. The Alliance declared war against the Sith, and the two sides have been at war ever since. The Imperial Knights, opposed to the Sith usurpation of the once-secular Imperial throne, fought back, but they were swiftly beaten down by the Sith until only remnants of them remained. The Chiss and Mandalorians were enemies at first, but, after the Mandalorian exodus at the hands of the Sith and the resulting Mandalorian Civil War, the Mandalorians have allied with the Sith and the Chiss. The Alliance and the Jedi are on their own in this galaxy.

Yet even in the dark of night, one lone candle is enough to break through the darkness. An infant child named Lana, in the care of an old Jedi Master, is the heir to the Skywalker legacy. One day, she may inherit her family’s birthright and lead the Jedi into a new dawn. But destiny is a choice, and it is no guarantee. Whether you are Lana, a Jedi, a Sith, or anyone else, your fate is of your own choosing.

Join the struggle. Embrace your destiny. Decide your legacy.

So what’s in Year 2?
Great question! One of the best things about SWRP is that the storyline is directed by all of you, not the staff, so where the story will be going is anyone’s guess! For our part, there are a number of things we’re going to be doing, many of them within the next few days and weeks. What kinds of things are on the docket, you ask?

  • A new banner and skin. We recently purchased a new skin for the website. Thanks to Boli's work in creating a banner and Hassan's work in getting the skin and banner set up, we now have a brand new skin and banner for the site! In addition to the main banner, we’re going to have faction-specific ones as well. Each main faction board will have its own skin; the Jedi board will have a Jedi/Alliance skin, and so forth!
  • A neutral RPing area. At the beginning of the timeline, we did away with our former Bars and Casinos RPing forums because they were not being used. In the next few days and weeks, we will be introducing a neutral space station in neutral territory, per this suggestion from a few months ago. This will be a place where people from all main factions, indie factions, or no faction at all can go to and hang out with any other character. There will be no killing, capturing, seriously injuring, plotting for the war, etc. Just lots of fun and interaction!
  • Legacies quests. We’ve talked a lot about the concept of Legacies quests, which are controlled, storylines run by the staff that are for fun and don’t directly impact the war, and you’ve seen that we’ve been doing the backstory for one with characters like Jhon Cordatus and Skhai Baatch. In the coming days and weeks, these Legacies quests will begin. We have initial plans for quests for each of the main factions, as well as the Imperial Knights! We’ll even have quests revolving around things like the Bogan Empire, the Dark Jedi empire that ruled part of the Outer Rim in the fourth timeline. To keep things organized and to keep you up to date on Legacies events, we'll be putting up a Legacies thread index in the story board.
  • Other RP events. One thing that’s very clear is that people want more to do in terms of storylines that are provided for them, and by more I mean more than just battles and skirmishes. We hear you loud and clear. We’ll be introducing new kinds of events for people to RP in that will offer both character development and faction-based RPing. I won’t go into much detail yet, since these discussions are in the initial stages, but stay tuned!
  • Continuing to make the RP a better experience. The RPing experience here on SWRP is awesome, but it could be more awesome. Just like with the recent Thread Prefix Change, we’ll continue to evaluate what we can do at an administrative level to make the experience better and the most fun it can be.

What can you do?
That’s a great question! Keep RPing. Keep being involved. We are in completely uncharted territory in the Star Wars canon, and there’s no canon ahead of us. Anything can happen. The choices you make in the RP can decide the legacy that your character leaves behind—and even the legacy of the galaxy itself. Above all, have fun. This site is here for you!

I hope you’re all having a great time in this timeline so far, and here’s to an awesome Year 2! Want to talk more about the year so far? Post your favorite memories of the timeline and what you’ve most enjoyed about it, and tell us what you’re looking forward to the most and what you would like to see the staff do to continue making this a great experience!

Happy one year! Yah- hazzah- hurray.

Though I realize every single event couldn't have been included in the aforementioned, it would have been nice to include the Jedi Temple destruction. I am new to the forum, but I believe that distribution alone was a pivotal point in the Jedi Faction. In fact, that event alone is one of the RPs that has and continue to stay with me. The planning and execution alone amazes me. Yes, ultimately major damage was done to the Jedi, but OOCly speaking it really did turn the tides. At least IMHO.

Now as far as what the staff can do for a better experience, I love that fact that Nexus' idea of thread prefix has been implemented. I know Prospero also had a great idea concerning how to improve the RP experience. Certainly I am not saying the staff is obligated to implement the entirety of Prosperos' suggestions. However, I would highly recommend implementing some of what he suggested, found here.

Another thing, as far as how the staff can improve the RP experience, is to perhaps follow through with promises. I know RL happens and things change, but there have been a number of occasions where announcements have been made about forthcoming thread. Folks sign up and nothing happens. Again, I know RL happens, but it's almost as though the inability to deliver on a promise affects the motivation level, and perhaps future participation and or interest.

Just my $0.02!

EDIT: Also, perhaps, a timeline of where we are at (as far as the storyline) will be very helpful. I know as a newbie, this forum and the story in general can be very confusing. Having a short paragraph- that is updated to reflect change- will definitely help the newbies and the oldbies who don't necessarily know the ins and out of the current story line. Also it removes the intimidation barrier from the new users who want to know, but don't quite feel comfortable enough to inquire.

I think Wiess made something a few months ago, but I can't remember.

She brings up a good point, I'd even like to see this implemented soon.

We're working on that timeline thread as we speak. There's a thread about it in the Hall of Leaders.

Sweet deal, I'm actually becoming proud of you guys lately. I know that isn't much coming from me, but I've been seeing a lot of initiative being taken by the staff and the members here lately.

The thread won’t include that, but we’re working on compiling all updates for a faction map for the current territories thread. That way, we can put an updated (and bigger) version up to reflect the current state of the galaxy. That includes changes in the Mandalorians, territory gained by the Sith, and also the fact that we've allowed the Chiss to have their territory expanded a bit more galactic westward. We may put Hutt Space and the Hapes Cluster as colorless to reflect independence, since the staff currently reserves those for potential future main factions.

Wow, that's great. If I may say this, I'd feel more inclined myself to join in on the main threads and factions with all of these updates coming up. Gives me a sense of direction much like I think it would with everyone else. Reserving the Hapes cluster is a snazzy idea too.

The FLs and staff have indeed already begun working on a timeline. I have most of my links ready, so I'm almost good (I archive everything, so it's easy to find). However, if you guys wish to help out, you guys are free to PM us (if the other FLs and admins don't want to be spammed, by all means just PM me) links to battles, major plots, and links to threads you feel contributed to the storyline (whether as a precursor to a plot, aftermath, etc.).

On a sidenote, I think it would be nice if the factions were to send out newsletters on what's happened so far and any upcoming plans. Just my suggestion though.

I think links to faction specific related events would be nice, but might be useless.

It'll depend on how you define faction-specific. For example, the Mandalorian Civil War was an internal matter, but it's relevance reached beyond it and it falls under the umbrella of a conflict in the Third Galactic Civil War.

Yeah, that's where I was getting at.

Maybe I'll actually be able to get my sith together and make a commitment to actually RPing instead of just making a character and not doing anything with it. We shall see.
