NAME: Hareth

FACTION: Indie

RANK: Angry Little Peanut

SPECIES: Arkanian

AGE: 19

GENDER: Female

FORCE SENSITIVE: Yes, trained.

APPEARANCE:

Hareth is not an especially large woman, standing only 5’02” with a skinny frame that shows hints of muscle. Her face is cherubic, with dimpled cheeks and a button nose, although it is most often screwed up in a scowl. She looks like the colour has been sucked out of her, with white hair and pale skin, and the white eyes natural to the Arkanians. The only hints of colour on her flesh are her pink, pouting lips. Her long hair, which falls to her waist, is wild and unkempt, making her look like a feral child.

Like many Dark Jedi, Hareth has turned to favouring black in all her clothing and accoutrements. She wears a set of black robes that are ragged with fraying and tears at the edges where things flow. Oftentimes, due to the fact that Arkanian eyes are sensitive, she wears a pair of mechanical blinders that adjust the brightness of the places she is in to make them more bearable to look at.

ATTRIBUTES:

Hareth is a talented young woman, there is no doubt. She is an accomplished practitioner in the ways of the Force despite her youth and relative inexperience, capable of honing her precocious skills in the Force rapidly and without much outside help. She has built heavily on the skills that her master left with, honing them into something more capable than what might be expected otherwise. This skill is fueled by her powerful anger and rage, feeding into her use of the Dark Side. However, the drawback is that she uses her powers like a bludgeon rather than a scalpel, and is less capable of the more subtle mysteries of the Force, instead focusing on the parts of it that bring immediate power over others. She’s a creature dominated by her emotions, being more than a little unstable, and doesn’t really play well with others despite desperately needing them to be around her. Given her size, she’s not the strongest, but complements that with use from her abilities, which she uses until she is too exhausted to use anymore. She’s smart, but immature, and thus doesn’t really apply herself at anything that doesn’t interest her at the moment.

PERSONALITY:

Hareth is what specialists would call “emotionally stunted”. Though she is a grown woman, she has the outlook of a toddler when it comes to many things, and is prone to throwing tantrums when she doesn’t get her way. She sees the world through the lens of what benefits her and what she wants, and ultimately is very unconcerned with how people feel unless it results in them being mad at her. She is a very angry person in general, prone to fits of psychotic rage over relatively minor slights, and fueled by a thought that the world owes her something and is refusing to pay up. She remembers any and all perceived insults against her, and is not above holding grudges over them for months at a time.

She is something of a bully to those who she knows she can get away with domineering, using her superior powers of the Force to try and make others do what she wants. She struggles against most forms of authority, and likes to test boundaries where she can unless the other party has actually worked to establish dominance. If someone who has actually managed to establish an authority position over her disapproves of her actions, she suddenly becomes a lot less brave, often breaking down in tears and blubbering to try and get her way instead. If that doesn’t work, she retreats to whatever space she has and sulks.

Hareth, while incredibly smart, is also fairly convinced she is in fact far more intelligent than she actually is, even on matters she knows very little about. This trait is of course natural to Arkanians, but when combined with the other elements of her personality tends to make her especially insufferable. She feels inadequate when faced with someone who is genuinely more talented or intelligent than her and becomes competitive with them. If she is proven more knowledgeable in an area than another person, however, she tolerates no competition. She is smarter than you, accept it!

Despite these rather odious personality traits, she is desperate for affection and has a strong fear of abandonment. She seeks out people to attach herself to who can tolerate her many, many personality flaws, and if they’re willing to dote on her, that’s a plus in her books. There is a soft centre somewhere inside her, beneath all the rage and selfishness that wants to have people love her. Unfortunately, that centre is surrounded by spikes and molten lava, to stretch the metaphor a bit. Ultimately, Hareth’s biggest fear is being alone.

BIOGRAPHY:

Hareth was once the daughter of an Arkanian scientist, Marn, who had a fling with another Arkanian. Nine months later, Hareth was born and the male Arkanian was gone, so Marn was now stuck with a child holding her back from her studies. Mercifully for Marn, Hareth promptly showed some skill in the Force from a very, very young age and Marn was quick to drop her off at a Jedi Temple so she could resume her life.

Hareth was a lonely child, even at the Jedi Temple, often left by herself due to her slightly off-kilter temperament and interests. She resented this, which her masters told her was the path to the Dark Side. Wanting to be good, Hareth tried to let go of these feelings. Eventually, she was given a master, one Ordan, a Wookiee Jedi of remarkable patience and strength.

Hareth and Ordan got along very well. In fact, Hareth adored Ordan for his patience and his kindness. In many ways, she saw him as a replacement parental figure for the mother that had abandoned her to the Jedi. Ordan never judged her for her strange obsessions or tangents, nor her other oddities. He did, however, do his best to quell a knowitall streak that developed in her, trying to remind her the virtues of humility and the strength of learning to admit when you didn’t know something.

The fall of the Republic changed everything for Hareth and Ordan. Chaos consumed they planet they were on. Ordan saw that some civilians had been taken prisoner, and wanted to liberate them. He knew that Hareth was too young, too inexperienced to help with the fighting. He ordered her to stay behind, telling her he would come back for her once things had calmed down.

He never returned. Hareth tried to find him, heading in the direction where she had last seen him, but there was no sign of him. In fact, she found the prisoners, but they had seen no sign of him either. She did, at least, managed to liberate them, and then continued her quest to find her master. No matter where she looked, she could find no sign of him. Her insecurities began to mount over time until she slowly began to be convinced that he had not died or been captured, but had instead abandoned her, like everyone else had.

These insecurities gnawed at her, and combined with being stranded on an unfamiliar planet occupied by the Sith, her emotional state began to deteriorate. The teachings of the Jedi were forgotten as emotions like rage, despair and grief began to enter her mind. It worked for her though. She found she could channel these emotions to make her stronger, to make it easier for her to survive. Her lightsaber similarly began to change with her emotions, slowly going from a light blue to a deep red as the rage consumed her further and further.

Hareth lived for almost two years as a near-animal, raiding enemies when they were weak enough that she could take them and steal food from them, before retreating and hiding. Her mental state deteriorated quite quickly during this period. However, her break came when she was able to stow away on a ship leaving off-world, taking her out of the realm of the Sith. From there, she hopped from planet to planet, trying to build her power. She had fallen to the Dark Side and she knew it. But she didn’t care anymore. The light side had done nothing for her but disappoint her.

Her travels for the next three years only plunged her deeper into her madness. The rage in her mounted as frustration after frustration impeded her progress. She threw herself deeper into getting more powerful, so that no one could ever abandon her again. She’s lived on the periphery of society, hoping to eventually become truly, utterly powerful.

SKILLS:

Hareth is an accomplished hot-wirer, and has some knowledge of slicing. However, her talent lies with her use of the Force. She is adept at using elemental control with the Force, and is similarly talented at using the Force to augment her speed and using Force push to crush her enemies. Other, more subtle forms of using the Force are beyond her, having atrophied from lack of use. Though she knows how to meditate and vaguely how to heal, she hasn't used the skills in some time and her connection to the Dark Side has weakened her capabilities with them to the point of near-uselessness. She has no real style with the lightsaber, instead using it mostly by flailing it wildly.

GEAR:

Red lightsaber, black robes, commlink.

ROLE-PLAYS:

None yet.

@Wit It just totally occurred to me her past with the Jedi would need approval. I hope there aren't any problems?

@Malon, what's our stance on the Force autodidact bit? Can someone train themselves to use the Force or is our stance that a teacher is required? I'm a little hazy on that so wanna make sure.

For the purposes of SWRP, a teacher is required for any competency to be obtained in utilizing Force powers. Once can naturally manifest the "basic" abilities of the Force, if you will, but for anything beyond the basics (i.e., standard telekinesis, standard manifestation of powers, etc.) a teacher is required; this is also the case for control of the Force. Many character manifest their Force powers naturally, but lack control until properly taught. That's my stance. Teacher required if you want to do anything other than randomly (and poorly) manifesting Force powers of any sort.
