DESCRIPTION
The Hawk-Bat interceptor is a modern-day echo of an ancient war. Long ago, during the era when the Sith controlled the Old Republic, this pattern of fighter was used by allies of the Jedi, who set up secret factories across the Galaxy to manufacture the type. After the resurgence of the Jedi and the banishment of the Sith, these factories did not go away; having largely been set up outside Republic jurisdiction to begin with, they continued to operate, selling their wares to all interested parties. As a result, Hawk-Bat-type starfighters became a staple for centuries after the war, used by heroes and villains alike.

Over millennia, the popularity of the Hawk-Bat pattern has waxed and waned, however it has never entirely gone away. Modern Hawk-Bats are a far cry from their ancient ancestors, of course; while early models were equipped with little more than paired laser cannons and an ejection seat, more recently built examples have shields, a hyperdrive and 4 concussion missiles in wing-root pods. Due to their small fuselage and over-sized engines, Hawk-Bats are both fast and maneuverable. Conveniently, they are also easy to store; although just shy of 18 meters long, their broad wings fold vertically, allowing them to take up less lateral space.

In general, Hawk-Bat interceptors in the present day are built by small manufacturers, or even by outlaw techs; the technical schematics are extremely easy to get hold of, and the type will almost always sell to someone, even if they may not be especially savory.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Hawk-Bat interceptors are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from a previous timeline back into our site's fanon. The dimensions have been enlarged in order to match the reference image.
