"It is like a dream. A horrid, wretched dream that I cannot wake up from. But it is not a dream; it is reality. My people are in shambles, our way of life destroyed, millennia of history all but lost... And so I must forge a new home for us.

I must, because no-one else can. And because no-one else will."

PERSONALITY
[fancybox4="https://i.imgur.com/o13PhbY.png"]Because Helin comes from an old, wealthy, and powerful noble family in the Church of Mortis' former sphere of influence, she is a very proud woman, and this pride can come in the form of being cold and aloof toward others, rarely cracking smiles; as a side effect of her upbringing and as a reflection of her aristocratic status, she tends to speak in a very clipped, formal manner, using what we in the real world would recognize as a refined Scottish accent; she enunciates her words and rarely uses contractions or slang. Being trained as a proper lady for the first few years of her life and less exclusively after being squired, Helin is capable of acting in such a manner when not performing duties as the Grand Master of the Paladins

Helin has a rather sardonic sense of humor, often giving quick snarks toward people that annoy her. Her stubbornness and strong sense of determination allows her to be an effective leader who gets things done through her sheer force of will, but it can, at times, get in the way of doing her newly-proclaimed job as she does not always listen to advice given to her. This at least partly stems from a desire to prove herself worthy of the title of Grand Master on her own merits, which she has taken upon herself under the belief that no-one else would or could. Due to her upbringing and her experiences in the latest Blackguard War in particular, she has little to no tolerance of Darksiders, and will attempt to attack and kill them whenever circumstances allow.

However, beneath this hardened exterior is a deeply pious, compassionate woman who cares very much for her people, and only wants to see them survive; as the last living member of her family line, she feels it is her responsibility to make sure no other families under her authority-- or even not-- are ruined like hers has been. She also is aware that her simply taking the items of the previous Grand Master and proclaiming herself his successor, even while she did so for a good reason and it was not something anyone could really dispute at the time, was not a popular decision with her fellow surviving Paladins. Because of this, she often worries that she is not only unworthy of the position, but also that she may actually have done so for her own personal gain and gratification-- something she swore not to do when she was knighted. And she worries that perhaps she led her people to the Outer Rim not simply to give them a new home, but out of a belief that their old homeworlds were now too damaged to be salvaged, and that she had condemned any innocents left behind to struggling amidst this uncertainty unnecessarily.

During the five years between the time the Paladins arrived on Adumar and the present, Helin has shown an impressive amount of political savvy in addition to her command of battlefield strategy and tactics. The first thing she did after arriving was ingratiate the Paladins to a number of smaller Adumari perators, forging through them an alliance with which to combat the largest, most aggressive of the Adumari states: Cartann. This led to the Adumari Civil War, and by the end of it, due to pressure from the perators she was allied with, Helin took the title of Empress of Katorrs.

Despite her new title, due to the fact that in Mortisite society one can hold a rank within the Paladins while also holding a secular title, Helin has made it clear that she does not consider the title of Empress to supersede her other title of Grand Master, and that any gains of territory by her forces will be held under the name of the Paladins of Mortis, not the "Empire of Katorrs". Regardless, Helin does take her new imperial title seriously enough to work to keep the fragile peace engendered by her taking the crown.

BIOGRAPHY
[fancybox4="https://i.imgur.com/xJbWehQ.png"]Helin Tyris was born to Lord Elon Tyris and Marena Arkone in Castle Duskmote on the planet Nihir, in the Unknown Regions. An old, powerful family with wealth and connections, the Tyrises were a prominent proponent of the Church of Mortis with a long history of service to it, and Helin and her siblings were no exception to this. At eight years old, Helin was offered to the Holy Order of the Paladins of Mortis as a Squire to Marshal Delann Sarmot and spent ten years in this position, being given the best education the Church could offer before being promoted to the rank of Paladin Knight.

Shortly after Helin attained knighthood, the Church was thrown into what is now known as the Fifth Blackguard War, as the Blackguard of the Son reappeared from beyond the territory of the Church after at least a century of silence and began attacking the worlds the Church oversaw. For roughly seven years Helin fought alongside her fellow Paladins and her siblings in trying to drive the Blackguard back, but as hard as the Paladins fought, they seemed to be losing the war despite the battles they won; many thousands of lives were lost, and the leadership of the Paladins suffered as more and more experienced and able-bodied warriors fell in battle-- including members of the Tyris family, such as Helin's father, Lord Elon.

Within the last year, the war came to Nihir, the home and last bastion of the Church of Mortis, and both the Blackguard and Paladins mustered their exhausted forces for a final series of offensives. The siege of Duskmote, one of the final battles of note that Helin participated in, was a Pyrrhic victory in every sense for the young Knight; the Blackguard was defeated and its survivors executed, but at the cost of Helin's surviving family perishing either in battle or while trying to escape the siege. Helin was heartbroken, but the war was not yet over. She traveled with the remaining Tyris bannermen she could muster to the Nihiri capital city of Maker's Light, a major population center that had recently been devastated, and provided reinforcements to the one-hundred eighty-nine Paladins that were fighting a desperate last stand against a group of larger, but no less desperate Blackguards, inside the Temple of the Ones-- the most holy temple the Church of Mortis had, and the home of their spiritual leader, the Grand Patriarch.

Among this group of defenders was Grand Master Godefroy Wendsoar, who was desperately trying to hold back the invaders by the time Helin's reinforcements arrived. The Grand Master fought alongside Helin in a rather vicious series of duels in an attempt to keep the Grand Patriarch alive, but it wound up being another Pyrrhic victory of the worst kind: Both the Grand Patriarch and Grand Master were felled by the same Blackguard warrior by the end of the battle, but that same warrior, having been exhausted, was felled in turn by Helin herself.

Unsure of what else to do, Helin took the Grand Master's lightsaber and cape, and declared herself Wendsoar's replacement in lieu of anyone else more qualified at the time. In the aftermath the Battle of Nihir, Helin spent several weeks locating survivors on Nihir and other Mortisite planets with the few remaining forces she could muster. After deciding they could help no-one else and that the war had ruined the Church's planets to such a degree as to be unsalvageable, Helin took as many of the remnants of her society that she could gather and headed toward the Outer Rim, promising herself to one day go back home to rebuild.

During the exodus from Nihir, Helin sensed the destruction of Tython, a disturbance so strong in the Force that she was knocked unconscious from her deeper connection to the Force than other Paladins, and fell into a temporary coma. During this coma, Helin received a number of visions, primarily regarding the Sith and of a lone planet which she sensed would be the safe haven of the Paladins. Upon awakening, she informed the other survivors of these visions, and declared that one day they would rebuild their strength enough to take the fight to the Darkness attacking the Galaxy, just as they had done the Blackguard.

Reinvigorated with a newfound confidence, the Paladins and their charges located Adumar some time later, landing on the planet and quickly approaching Perator Serion ke Endil, an underage ruler of the state of Halbegardia. After some coaxing, Serion allowed the Paladins to remain in his lands, and after informing them of the aggressive ambitions of Perator Duran ke Foth of Cartann, the largest of the states with over half of the planet under his domain. ke Foth had plans of one day uniting Adumar under his rule by force, and Helin quickly set about forging alliances with other perators in Serion's name order to create a coalition to fight Cartann. Eventually, tensions reached a breaking point and the Adumari Civil War erupted.

Despite an inferior position, the Adumari Alliance worked to defeat Cartann with clever strategy and tactics, and the war-hardened Paladins were at the forefront of these efforts. Shortly before the present day, the war ended as a force led by Helin and her Marshals Leonatas Belisarion and Cotan Sar'andor sieged Cartann City and forced Perator ke Foth to surrender.

In the aftermath, the various perators of the Alliance discussed what to do with the planet under their control. Despite working in the name of Serion ke Endil, the young perator was considered too young to be an effective ruler of the Adumari as a whole. The young perator, however, surprised everyone by nominating Helin for the position. While Helin attempted to downplay herself, many of the other perators caught onto this idea and likewise began to rally behind her. Facing a large amount of pressure, Helin eventually gave in, and afterward was crowned the first Empress of Adumar in Cartann City.

Now, Helin works to adjust to her new role in Adumari society while making it clear to the perators that she will not let her new title supersede her title of Grand Master, declaring that as far as she was concerned, the Katorrs system and any territorial gains outside of it would be under the protection of the Paladins, not of this new so-called empire. While rebuilding is happening and a surprising number of Adumari are converting to Mortism, there is still an undercurrent of dissent by a number of prominent nobles, particularly of former perators loyal to the former Perator ke Foth...

SKILLS AND APPEARANCE
[fancybox4="https://i.imgur.com/VamhuYr.jpg"]Helin is powerful in the Force, and has a particular affinity toward telekinetics, bolstering her physical capabilities (primarily her reflexes), as well as bonding with animals. She is trained in the techniques of Tutaminis, but rarely uses them and is currently concerned with attempting to master catching lightsaber blades in order to better utilize her own saber; a talent that is very rare and dangerous, but which she knows her father was able to do as a Paladin Marshal. Partly due to being a natural leader and partly through tapping into the Force (usually without really meaning to), Helin is capable of greatly bolstering the morale of those under her command, causing them to fighter harder and more efficiently, and rally more quickly to her when needed. She spends a portion of her time each day in prayer and meditation, enhancing her connection to the Force, and has learned to utilize her senses in tandem with the Force to a high degree.

She is multilingual, though the languages she speaks apart from Basic belong to species native to the Unknown Regions, meaning few apart from the Paladins and other Mortisites know these languages. Her skill with a vibroblade is superb, utilizing a form of Djem So to use it-- this translates well to her use of her lightsaber, though she is still learning how to use it properly in lieu of a vibroweapon. This also ties into her hand-to-hand abilities, which are rather refined. She's developed a reputation for delivering headbutts to people, but in all actuality this is something she rarely does.

Helin is very accurate with a bowcaster, but isn't a fan of more "modern" blaster weapons as a matter of preference. Her fighting prowess, combined with her ability to inspire and command others around her, makes her a highly effective warrior and leader. She is also of above-average intelligence, being able to learn and grasp new things quickly and think on her feet well; but mastering certain things, like piloting, is another matter.

Standing six feet tall, possessing fair skin, a lean face, long red hair, and sharp green eyes, Helin is considered a true beauty among the Paladins and their charges due to being the result of many generations of noble breeding. Having trained as a Paladin since she was a girl, her body is rather toned with clearly defined muscle, which nonetheless does not compromise her feminine figure.

One crossguard lightsaber with a white blade, and hilt made with phrik alloy-- the only such Paladin lightsaber to have these traits as it is meant only for Grand Masters.

One vibrosword made with songsteel.

One set of Mater Medium Armor (worn only in battles or ceremonies)

One bowcaster (usually not brought when traveling)
