Canto Bight, as usual, was a hodge-podge of activity, both legitimate and...well, a little less than legal. Of course, for the Casino Metropolis, such an assortment of transactions was no strange occurrence. Like each individual was clearly and definitively unique from the rest, so too was every deal made known for what it was without apology. Even law-enforcement seemed to disregard their code, participating in some of the more morally ambiguous games of chance such as pit fights.

And while Tyrn did not much like the atmosphere or the clientele of the local businesses, the study of possibility meeting with chaos was something that had intrigued him enough to draw the young man out of his little niche in the Sith Archives. Every dice roll, every dollar invested, every dream crushed beneath the all-encompassing weight of chance seemed to sound a siren's call within the depths of the young Sith's soul. He had no doubt that, were he to play the odds, he would quickly lose all self-control, sinking hopelessly into addiction.

However, he was still able to satisfy the call through observation. For now, watching seemed to provide enough of the thrill, but he knew he couldn't make this a regular thing, or else watching wouldn't be enough. Diminishing Returns ensured that eventuality if he continued, the principle of economics whispering in the back of his head as he witnessed a man collapse into tears and flesh, his soul destroyed as he watched die roll, what small amount of credits he had having been consumed by chance.

Tyrn would frown at that, his brow furrowing in sympathy as he could feel the man's despair through the Force. He wanted to comfort him, but by the cries and the darkness within them, he knew no hand could reach through that mire of sadness. Still, an effort would need to be made, or the Sith knew he would torture himself for hours on end after. Moving around the table, he would kneel by the man, placing a hand on his shoulder, simply being there for him as best he could.

After a brief time, security came to escort him out to his vehicle, and Tyrn was left feeling disheartened and a little disgruntled. So, naturally, he made his way to the bar, whereupon arriving he would seat himself. After a time, he would notice something rather strange, coming from someone who was rather much stranger. The other young man pacing the space, who was seemingly the epicenter of this strangeness, carried himself like someone desiring to go unnoticed, and for that reason, among others, Tyrn had quickly picked him out.

Quietly, the Sith would extend his Force Presence out, a mere tendril, so as to alert the man, but hopefully not alarm him. He was curious, after all, as to why the man had his own Force presence, and one unlike any Tyrn had encountered in quite some time. The last one like this that he'd experienced had been that man who'd begun this madness...

So far, this evening had not exactly been going Austin Wolfe's way. The Jedi, following the destruction of the Jedha Temple and temporary relocation to Vrogas Vas, had decided to donate his personal medical equipment to the waystation. The infirmary at both temples on Tython were exceptionally well equipped, and Austin saw no need to bring his own belongings — as Vrogas Vas could use the extra supplies. Not only that, but the Jedi had also taken up the role of a field medic rather than simply an infirmary doctor confined to a single Jedi Temple. He felt as though he'd wasted far too much time alone on Jedha. He had greater purpose to be explored throughout the Galaxy. However, giving away his medical equipment had put Austin at a temporary setback — even field medics need something where they can provide better care for injured patients. After having assisted the Republic in acquiring their own Sakhet-Class Medical Ship, his thoughts turned to something similar, albeit much smaller than a capital ship.

Having reached out to some potential sellers, Austin had then travelled here to Canto Bight. Although the planet was neutrally aligned, the medic did not want to blatantly declare that he was a Jedi and therefore wore a crisp black suit for the occasion. At first, the shiny and greed-filled city was off-putting for the Jedi. As he and the rest of the Order were to live wholly selfless lives, the intense emotional highs and lows of winning and losing bothered Austin. Nearly every occupant of the city was here for their own gain, their own riches. Hardening his feelings and opinions, Austin largely ignored the crowds of gamblers as he met with a seller in a private lounge. After several minutes of negotiating and bartering, the Jedi decided that he was only going to get ripped off in some way if he bought a ship here on Canto Bight. Leaving the private lounge, Austin took a deep breath of heavily perfumed air before making his way over to the bar. He needed a drink of something before heading back home.

Although dressed in discreet clothing, Austin Wolfe in fact made no attempt to hide his presence in the Force. Not wanting to admit it even to himself, Austin knew that attempting to do so would be...increasingly more difficult than it used to be. His recent experience with the Force Nexus on Tython had changed him, in ways that even the Jedi did not know. What the Sith would in fact notice was a very prominent outpouring of the Light — not enough to be unbearable as a practitioner of the Dark Side, but still noticeable. Feeling the tendril, Austin continued to sit calmly at the bar with his light blue drink. Although clearly sensing the dark, coldness of taint, he could also feel curiosity emanating from its origin. ⋮⋮ Come, sit, ⋮⋮ he telepathically and non-threateningly relayed. Perhaps this discussion would be enlightening.

When the man reached back, Tyrn would physically shudder. The man's power was obvious from the first, his stance in the Light indeed being somewhat oppressive to the young Sith. However, the shudder did not seem to come from fear, though the boy did indeed have apprehensions about his current course of action. Instead, the young man would stand and approach, more excited by the lack of hostility than fearful of the gap in ability. Wearing a rather modest suit, Tyrn did not stand out. Well, perhaps he did due to the relatively low wealth he displayed versus the extravagance of most of the other people.

On the walk over to Austin, he would contemplate greatly what he would say. The man whom he'd picked out was clearly of another class of Force-User, and most likely a Master if he had to hazard a guess. And this being the first time in something like eleven years that he had seen a Jedi, let alone a Master, and that last encounter having gone the way it had...well. He was nervous, to say the least. Before he knew it, though, he was standing before Austin, and holding out a hand to the man as he smiled and spoke clearly and rather jubilantly, though low enough to keep their conversation private.

" Hello, sir. You have invited me to sit, and so I shall. My name is Tyrn Van Tauren. I am a Sith, which you most likely know, but more importantly, I do not want to fight. Not only would it go quite poorly for me, but it would waste this perfectly good drink I've just ordered. Or you could have it as prize for slaying a fledgling Knight like myself. But getting away from such chatter, I'd like to ask your name and rank in the Jedi Order, if you would?"

Lothal is a cool planet and all under Darth Evandrus' firm rule, but it just doesn't completely do it for Dwight Antilles. At heart, he is a simple man of simple pleasures and vice. That's the way he was always wired, despite the firm and strict upbringing of his noble parents, he was defective in the respect that he isn't the model child that his parents wanted him to be. After being busy after assuming his post as Junior Moff, the ex-Junior Senator of Alderaan would be at Canto Bight, dressed in a navy blue tuxedo. He has been hitting the bars and the casinos for awhile. He has won some, he lost some, but the only thing that matters right now is that he is pretty drunk right now. His hair (which was combed and geled before coming here) is all messy, his bowtie is crooked, and his eyes are dilated. He looks like a mess. He would then come upon the bar where two gentlemen are sitting, appearing to be having a talk. He even smells like booze as well. Dwight at this moment would have no sense of boundaries what-so-ever. "Oh hey there guys, how you doing?" he would have a big goofball grin on his face as he said as he approached the two, inserting himself in the conversation right when the Sith finished. "What are we talking about?" he said. He didn't hear their conversation, but he really wants to be a part of it, for reasons. He doesn't recognize either of the two on his approach, but they might recongize the former Senator of Alderaan.

Feeling the presence of the inquisitive one approaching, Austin cast a sideways glance as Tyrn strode next to him and cordially extended a hand. The doctor contemplated the strangeness of the situation — the last time he'd had contact with a practitioner of the Dark Side was many years ago, when they were known more commonly as Exiles than Sith. To say the least, the confrontation was not a friendly one. Austin presumed that not much had changed since they titled themselves as Sith, but perhaps this young one was an anomaly. Reaching out his own hand, he returned the handshake before returning to his drink and motioning to the bar stool next to him.

Austin was not sure if it was simply his presence or whether Tyrn was feeling exceptionally loose-lipped, but the Sith had immediately started the conversation by revealing his alignment and full name. Looking around, the Jedi made sure that none others had heard their conversation — thankfully, Tyrn had kept his voice low enough to keep it private enough, but Austin was not quite so willing to divulge in the same manner. Also keeping his response quiet, below the boisterous white noise of the bar, the Jedi replied. "You assume I am a Jedi, hm?" Of course he was right, but proclaiming that here might not be so wise. There were plenty of Light-sided individuals not in the Order, believing instead that the Force was to be their guide and not the Council. Indeed, Austin had been of a similar mindset over a year ago, but he had decided to stay in the Jedha Temple nonetheless. "I will neither confirm nor deny your suspicions — however, my occupation is to tend to the sick and wounded. You may call me Doctor Wolfe." Austin took a sip of his drink, enjoying the fresh and cool taste.

Just then, before Austin could continue their conversation, a particularly drunk individual ambled up to the duo and joined in. Looking towards the well-dressed man, the doctor placed his drink back down on the bar — mostly so it wouldn't get knocked out of his hand, but also so he could address the newcomer better. Peering closer, Austin had a fleeting moment of recognition. "We were talking names," Austin commented cordially. "I recognize your face, but have no name for it. What brings you both to this casino this evening?" He decided to ask the question generally, curious as to both their reasoning on being here. Having spent so many years secluded in the Jedha infirmary, Austin was not quite as well able to recognize prominent figures in the Galaxy. Perhaps Tyrn would be more readily able to recognize Dwight Antilles, either as ex-Junior Senator or as his current position in the Empire.

Tyrn sat gratefully, quickly ordering a drink while he the ex-Junior Senator made his entrance to the conversation. So nervous was the lad at the tentatively cordial encounter with the clearly more powerful Force-sensitive Wolfe, that Tyrn had failed to notice the other coming up or speaking, though the noise in the casino did not help in respect to listening. As such, when Wolfe addressed Dwight, Tyrn turned with a start, almost jumping in his stool before he recognized the newcomer, a wide smile spreading on his face as he exhaled heavily. When he spoke, it was in nervous confidence, that is to say, he was sure of his answer, but not of his place.
" Why, you're Dwight Antilles! If I'd known you were here, I might have reached out to you before coming alone!"

It seemed that in his excitement at the representatives arrival, he'd either ignored or misheard the last query of the good doctor. His attention was on the newcomer, who he quickly came to realize was quite inebriated.

Dwight kept smiling and his right eye was twitching a bit as the two gentlemen replied. The older looking gentleman seems to know his face, but can't put a face to it. Which isn't a big deal or anything. He was about to connect the dots for him, but the more attractive younger looking guy recognized him, but his words seem to suggest that he personally knows him. Dwight does not recognize him, although maybe he can't recognize him because he's so shitfaced at the moment. "Do I know you?" he grinned innocently as he asked, before hiccuping as he can barely stand up straight. "But yes, I'm Dwight Antilles" he hiccuped again. "But you can just call me Dwight!" he also nodded his head. "Yeah, I'm here to kick ass and play card games. But uhhh... I need another pitstop first." He accompanied with a chuckle as he would then go over to the bar where the other two are sitting, not even able to walk in a straight line. He would take his place sitting besides Austin, and knocking on the counter to get the attention of the bartender. "Hey bartender, another whisky please." Dwight finished with a hiccup the bartender would be off to fetch it. The bartender had a blank expression on his face as he wondered if it was a good idea to give the drunk man another drink, but he shrugs. Dwight would then lean forward on the counter and look towards the other two. "So yeah..." he would grin as he nod his head in approval of his own words. "So wha-cha doing here fellas?" he innocently asked.

This evening was getting more and more strange by the moment. Whether is was on purpose or purely due to the distraction of the newcomer, the Sith did not answer Austin's question. He took a long, deliberate sip from his drink. The former Junior Senator's name did not ring any bells in the Jedi's mind — though again, he had not bothered to keep up with Republic politics until somewhat recently. It seemed fairly odd to Austin that the Sith would know of this Dwight, well enough to go out drinking with him, but the latter had no idea who Tyrn was. However, he decided to simply let it slide. This evening was a strange one indeed.

"I was here to potentially purchase a ship," Austin replied, setting down his light blue drink. "No such luck tonight though. I shall attempt to do so somewhere else, however. Perhaps someplace where the businessmen do not try selling a vessel ten times its market value." And that was the simply truth. Having exceptionally little interest in gambling, none of the slot machines or game tables were enticing to the doctor. Apparently, the same could not be said for the innumerable other patrons that won and lost fortunes every night in this city.

Mulling over Dwight's purpose for being in Canto Bight, Austin could not help but wonder. "And Dwight, good sir, how have the cards been treating you tonight? Perhaps said ass-kicking is in reference to how well you are playing, not actual violence." Now that Dwight Antilles had Tyrn's attention, the Sith would divulge as to his purpose here this evening. Austin suspected it was little more than taking a break from everyday life, but he was curious nonetheless.

"Uh yikes, that doesn't sound very fun" he frowned when he commented on Austin's troubles with purchasing a ship. By this time, Dwight's order of whiskey would appear on the counter and the bartender would be heading off going towards another patron. Dwight would waste no time getting the glass in his hands and then taking a gulp. Dwight would take in a deep breath sigh in relief once he did that. "Ah, nothing like some fine whiskey..." he murmured to himself and smiled once again. Right now he ex-Senator would be getting dizzy, and his body wobbling. He would have to keep himself leaning on the counter as to not fall off. The Junior Moff doesn't seem a problem with this however. He would look towards Austin again, to respond to the questions directed at him. If it wasn't for the fact that he was literally next to him he wouldn't be able to make out Austin's figure with how messed up his vision is, but again the Alderaanian is so upbeat right now doesn't seem to notice a problem as he is under the influence.

"Uhmm. I've doing pretty good... I think" Dwight's smile would drop to a flat one. Well, in truth that he is having a mixed night. So he isn't losing too much. That could be counted as a good thing. "And uh yes, meant playing well" he would chuckle innocently.

Now, Dwight doesn't believe he caught the other person's name. Or he has said it and he just forgot about it. Probably the latter. "So uh what is your name again?" once again his smile would drop. "I don't believe I caught it. I think... ? Did I?" he would try remembering, in vain as he would look at Austin with a confused expression.

" No-uh, I mean, no sir. No, you did not. I think. I'm Tyrn-Van Tauren. I'm Tyrn Van Tauren, sir. Sorry."

The boy's first no came with a higher-pitched note, and so he corrected himself. However, the mistake made in front of the two higher-ranking individuals did seem to get to him, as his speech beyond that was much more unsure and nervous then it had been before. And that was saying a lot.
" So you, uh, you were looking to buy a ship, you said? That's really cool. I wish I owned my own ship... But hey, this is great, too! You get to meet a lot people that you otherwise wouldn't have when you're forced to stay until one for the next transport back home."

With his own drink arriving, the lad would quickly sip from the glass, breaking eye contact as he took the beverage with a nod of thanks to the bartender, who walked off without noticing the affirmation of his labor. Tyrn then turned his attention back to the two men with a smile.

The doctor merely shrugged at Dwight's comment. Fun? Perhaps not, but never before had Austin been this interested or enlightened on the multitude of ship designs. Then, while the former Senator enjoyed his whiskey, Tyrn spoke again. "True, although I find I generally keep to myself in public shuttles. I carry a book to read," Austin replied. He reached to pat Caladglær normally strapped firmly to his left side, but realized that people don't usually carry books on their sides in suits and therefore didn't have it with him.

After affirming that he was doing well in cards, Dwight asked for Austin's name. Having taken another swig of his drink, he put it down and replied. "Doctor Wolfe, Mr. Antilles. I graduated from a medical university in Coruscant several years ago, and I have been working on my own practice since then." He smiled. While it wasn't exactly the whole truth, it definitely was not a lie. It was, however, really all that both Tyrn and Dwight would need to know.

Tyrn noticed the reach, and made note of it in his memory. He wasn't entirely sure what it was the man usually reached for, but he clearly had a tendency to seize something. The height of it dismissed the idea of a lightsaber, and the situation did the same for a blaster. That, added to the comment, drew Tyrn to conclude that he usually carried a book as he said he did, or perhaps a pad to keep patient records on, considering his professed occupation as a doctor.

Wolfe was clearly a Jedi, though, and that threw a wrench into the boy's thinking because why would any Jedi need to buy a ship on their own? He seemed to remember his lessons saying that the Order had a good deal of wealth behind it, acquired from different patrons donating their funds to promote them. Then again, they had been at war for a while, and military campaigns had a way of sucking up funds more than anything else.

" That's awesome! I love to read too, but the books are kind of drull around where I live. What libraries do you tend to frequent? Wait, no, first what kind of books do you read? That's important. I think?"

What are Austin and that other dude talking about while Dwight was occupied with his drink? Books? Who reads books these days? Can you just read whatever you want on the Holonet? He couldn't remember the guy's name being spoken, so maybe he didn't already say it. Then he spoke and told the Junior Moff his name. Doctor Wolfe. There we go, that's who he is. While the doctor was speaking Dwight's smile was still as bright as ever. Not even mid way into Austin's sentence, Dwight would interrupt him "Wait one second" Then he turned his head slightly away and then downed what was left of his drink and with his free hand he gestured to him with his index finger for the doctor to pause as finishes his because he isn't listening right now.

Once he finishes his drink however in about five seconds, he would start smiling again after belching as he tossed the glass off to the side, leaving it to shatter once it hits the ground. Some patrons turned around in the direction of the broken glass. The bartender who was servicing another another customer also turned in that direction and once he sees the glass he is annoyed, but didn't see who threw it. Dwight sighed in relief after he finished drinking. He would then turn back to Austin. "Sorry my throat was dry. Please continue. University on Corellia you said? Right?" he questioned with a goofball grin as one of his eyes was twitching, with a chuckle following the ex-Senator's words as he is ready for Austin to continue now, he thinks.

Tyrn’s questions on books and libraries made Austin think for a moment, his mind drifting back to his schooling days on Coruscant. ”I have spent many an hour in the greatest library one can visit on Coruscant. Have you ever been there?” the doctor asked, taking another sip of his drink. He swirled the aquamarine blue liquid around, having almost emptied the glass. ”Most texts I read are to further my skills. My work as a doctor are never complete, and I will always have new species or procedures to learn about.” Indeed, although Caladglær was not entirely on physician practices, it certainly was allowing Austin to hone his skills in more ways than he could imagine.

Dwight’s actions caught his eye, and for a moment the doctor’s attention was captured by the drink being downed in no more than five seconds. ”Impressive,” he commented aloud after Antilles had smashed the glass onto the floor. ”University of Coruscant, in fact,” Austin corrected. ”Though close enough. Big cities are really all the same.” Of course, each one was unique in their own way, but the populace was uncannily similar no matter how big or small. There were always the haughty rich, the slums for the poor, and the nigh-unstoppable crime that filled the streets. Austin was glad he didn’t have to deal with much of that anymore on Jedi worlds.

A beeping noise distracted the doctor, and he pulled out his personal imagecaster. "Gentlemen," he announced, quickly finishing his drink and setting it on the bar with the credits to pay for it. "It has been a pleasure, but I must take my leave. Good day to you both." And with that, Austin walked away from the bar and traveled onward home.
