As an answer to your question above:
Roleplaying is really cool if you set aside the embarrassment of what you are actually doing for a bit. To be honest it's a lot like the text-based games of old, just with actual humans playing with you.

It's pretty interesting to see your characters develop overtime and form relationships with other characters on the site as well.

If you have anymore questions, I (and the rest of the nerds on this forum) would be super glad to help out and point you in the right direction.

yeah i do a lot of dnd games so i'm familiar with roleplaying just not this forum in particular, or the star wars setting really. i play in a very, very loose setting of star wars with my friends...it's less star wars and more "suede and his friends fuck around doing vaguely star wars things"

Also, that's a really good question, I like you already. It really depends on what your looking for, I'm not really into PvP so I wouldn't be the one to ask. As for what I do enjoy RPing is story driven content and building an interconnected-story arc between multiple characters, of course this requires a group of like minded people, but trust me whatever your looking for you'll find your group. In time you'll learn the familiar usernames that frequent the site most often, and you'll get to the point where you know who you want to RP with, who you enjoy RPing with, and who you'd like to RP with at some point. Easiest way to find people you want to RP with though is to find one person then read everything they write, chances are you'll come across someone in their threads that'll catch your eye, it just branches from there. Again, that was a great question, and I'm interested in seeing what other people have to say on it, should they take the time to comment.​

The Sith Empire (obviously the best faction, so I'll stop right there) run by @Relent

The Republic run by @Fyremage

The Jedi Knights run by @Wit

Also, though they are not an official main faction, the Mandalorian Dominion is also worth a look. Resident faction leader there is @Arclight

Factions serve two primary purposes, on the one hand they provide a setting for like minded people to be able to locate people to RP with, and on the other they provide the backbone of the ever-developing storyline of the site itself. The factions serve as governments or organisations within the setting of the roleplay. As far as how they function, that depends on each faction and it's leadership. For most, when you make a character you will designate which faction they are a part of, if any and if not then they would be an Indie character, as in independent. Once your character is approved by that faction's leadership then your all set to start RPing.

The faction leadership is as follows:

@Fyremage is the Republic faction leader.
@Relent is the Sith Brotherhood faction leader.
@Wit is the Jedi Knights faction leader.

There are other faction leaders for the minor factions but the above are the main three factions of the site. If you would like a reference for all of the site's staff, that page can be found here: Link

EDIT: Ninja'd by @Gamov though he did mention the Mando faction, but he lied about the sith, their horrible go Jedi.​

Haha yeah don't worry about finding people to develop interesting relationships with - sometimes it just happens and you don't even realize it happened until you're in a thread with the same guy for the 5th time.

And yeah, D&D is actually a really accurate way to describe the forum - its basically D&D without the dice rolls :^)

And to answer your question about factions (more so than @Gamov did):
Basically these are groups of people who are made around similar concepts (Jedi characters w/ the Jedi faction, Sith w/ Sith, etc.)

However, they aren't really mandatory and a lot of people choose to make Indie character, which are just independent characters or characters aligned with a smaller faction...

@Undine thank you for the gifs, it really makes me feel welcomed :) now i feel all happy lol. but yeah i dont like pvp that much, i prefer to work with others whenever possible. the group rp situation you described sounds really cool and i hope someday i could make a character and be involved in something cool like that. also thanks for the info on factions, i was thinking of going jedi or republic since they seem to align more with my preference of working together. indie sounds cool too though it seems kinda daunting doing my own independent thing to start.

@Gamov thank you for the informative comment! i will be sure to ask more questions if i have them, though maybe not about which faction i should join, :P also thank you, with these welcoming posts i think i will enjoy my stay very much :)

@TheCalmOne sounds like a...different way of going about it, but i'm excited to learn and try! not using dice will take some getting used to, i suppose. indies sound nice so i'd be without the restriction but as i'm new maybe it'd be better to have some guidance while i learn
