A History of Hogwarts:
The Word of Merlin
It is 1941. As the shadow of war falls across western Europe, the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry return to start a new school year under some of the darkest circumstances known to recent history. The wizarding schools of Durmstrang and Beauxbatons have fallen silent in the months over summer break, and it is feared that the muggles of the German military have discovered the hidden magical institutions. Rumours that pro-wizard fanatic Gellert Grindelwald is in fact working with the muggles of the Third Reich have deepened these concerns, and the British Ministry of Magic has begun to take emergency steps to ensure the security of Hogwarts is maintained, even should England itself fall.
However, behind closed doors, there are other, stranger rumours. After a thousand years, whispers and tales of the Word of Merlin have begun anew - an ancient artifact from the days of the greatest wizards of all time, said to open the way to the lost kingdom of Camelot itself. Grindelwald's agents have spread far and wide across England in search of the Word, under the zealous guidance of Katrin Kohler - a stern, fiery haired pureblood with only the utmost contempt for all mugglekind. As the students of Hogwarts begin their new school year, they will find both the war, and the search for the Word, will imperil their school, their very lives, and the entire wizarding world.

RULES
Player Characters are restricted to Sixth Year only and should be 16 or 17 years of age unless they have had to repeat a year. Player characters should accordingly be balanced around the standard number of five N.E.W.T. level subjects. Characters that prove to be overly skilled or powerful in either their character sheets or in the RP may be asked to nerf, or may be removed until suitable changes are made. Your character is a student, not Merlin. They should have weak points, poor skills in problem subjects, and other negative traits. Power builds and Mary Sues will not be accepted. All player characters will need to be posted in the character thread located here.
If a player wishes to interact with another player character through dialogue, both players are strongly encouraged to work out the dialogue sequence together in private and post it as a single post or chapter - this is partially due to the collaborative nature of this RP, but it also prevents the RP from being bogged down by waiting on dialogue to complete. If the majority of players are waiting on events to move forward, then you run the risk of being left behind if dialogue and conversation are slowing down the RP.
Hogwarts Faculty are to be considered shared NPCs. Any writer can utilize them at any given moment within reason - if the other players feel like a player is using a Hogwarts NPC unfairly, out of character or in some other way unreasonably, changes may be requested to be made depending on individual circumstances.
Aside from Hogwarts faculty, canon characters should be avoided entirely. Hogwarts is a large school; it is exceedingly unlikely that you 'just happen' to be best friends with Tom Riddle. Gellert Grindelwald and characters outside of Hogwarts (ie Katrin Kohler) will be introduced for use later once the RP is established.
There is no posting order - players should simply post when they can. If this creates a disruption in continuity, either work out an arrangement with your fellow players or simply note that a post should be read as if it appears after the corresponding post. or...ultimately whatever choice works best for you without creating an inconvenience for your fellow writers.
Most disputes are to be settled between players - however if an issue cannot be resolved, I retain the right to make a ruling on the situation if necessary.
