HOUSE DEMICI

HISTORY

The Great Houses of Serenno are composed of the wealthiest and most powerful families on the planet of Serenno. Among these families were House Serenno, House Malvern, House Borgin, and House Hakka as well as House Nalju, House Dooku and House Demici. According to tales of old, Serenno was once a planet under the control of the Sith Empire. The eight great houses were mobilized by the House Serenno and, recorded in their histories, expelled the Sith forces without assistance during the Great Hyperspace War (5000 BBY). As a result, the planet was subsequently renamed in honour of Serenno, a member of the house.

Whilst many other Serenno families remained rather neutral in affairs outside their homeworld, House Demici took an active interest in intergalactic politics. During the Ruusan Reformation debate (1000 BBY), many of the other Counts of Serenno wished to remain uninvolved; it was the Count of Demici who eventually rallied them, given how the Supreme Chancellor Tarsus Valorum was nearly assassinated on their very homeworld.

With a steadfast reputation, the Demici family are also well known for their hereditary affinity with the force; records showed that a number of Jedi had been sired amongst their bloodline, with many going on to serve as faithful peacekeepers. In the past, should one of their offspring show potential, it was almost considered customary to offer that child for service amongst the Order.

Family records date their Jedi heritage as far back as the age of the Old Republic. Yet despite their best intentions, shame would fall upon the family. During the Clone Wars (around 19BBY), one of their kin fell to the dark side. According to rumours, this was not the first Demici to fall and rather than risk further indignity, the relations with the Jedi were severed. No further Demici would go on to serve the Jedi Order.

Ironically, separating themselves, House Demici survived what would become known as the Great Purge (19 BBY—3 BBY); they endured under the Empire long enough to witness the rise of New Republic. When the Jedi Order began its revival, members of the Demici were still hesitant to reinstate their age-old allegiance. They feared history would repeat itself and were concerned with the prospect of producing another potential dark sider.

After much debate and discussion, the Demici family opted to continue their policy of neutrality under the current control of the reestablished Sith Empire. They submit themselves to the Empress and her will but do not actively encourage their kin to pursue an active path in the Force. There have, however, been exceptions.

FAMILY MEMBERS

The Demici family’s act of succession is governed by primogeniture; the firstborn child, regardless of gender, is eligible to inherit to titles and estate of the parents. However, their claim must be supported by the other Serennian noble houses. If there is even a remote chance of a dispute, elections will be held and the Lords of Serenno will vote on their choice of family patriarch/matriarch. Luckily, the Demici House has been moderately stable, with little conflict in succession. In the past, should a member of the Demici family wish to join the Jedi, they would forsake all claims and support the appointment of the next closest relative (usually a sibling or cousin).

Main Family:
Notable Family Members:

  • Lujayn Demici - Like the kinsmen that came before her, Lujayn joined the Jedi at an early age. Unfortunately, she was beset with visions from the Force; struggling to decipher them, it is believed Lujayn was eventually driven mad and, as a result, began to explore darker aspects of the Force. Tempted by power and knowledge, she fell under Count Dooku’s influence and became one of his many dark acolytes. Lujayn would later perish at the hands of Master Mace Windu during the Battle of Geonosis (22 BBY).

  • Hetton Demici - From a young age, Hetton knew he was Force-sensitive, yet he refused the family’s tradition of joining the Jedi. Instead, as he grew into a young man, he was encouraged by his mother to search for means of training his abilities without having to pledge allegiance to any particular Force Sect. He used his family's wealth and connections to collect an array of artefacts and documents; this led to him exploring aspects of the dark side of the Force. Hetton would later be killed in a skirmish with rival Sith (990 BBY). Rumours suggest the relics he collected remain hidden within the Demici family’s extensive crypt.

  • Matteo Demici - Proficient in combat, Matteo was considered one of the youngest Battlemasters to be named in the Jedi Order (during that period of history), having proven himself numerous times during conflicts in the Sith-Jedi War. He is also accredited for helping develop and adapt several styles of lightsaber fighting. It should also be noted that Matteo was rather gifted in mechanics, and he wrote several archive entries exploring alternative lightsaber designs. His most noticeable achievement was during the Liberation of Coruscant (1032 BBY) in which he singlehandedly bested three Sith warriors in lightsaber combat.

  • Javaid Demici - One of the earliest known kinsmen to join the Jedi Order from House Demici. Strong in the Force, Javaid renounced his claim to the family’s title and estate, instead choosing to bestow them onto a younger brother. During the time of the Old Republic, Javaid would become a Jedi Master and fight on behalf of the Light for decades; records show he was offered a seat on the High Council but declined for unknown reasons. Tragically, Javaid would be slain during the Mando-Jedi War, in the Battle of Malachor V (3960 BBY). His exploits, however, would become legends.

  • Asra Demici - Known as an intrepid adventurer, Astra only held the position of a third daughter within her family. Other than the arranging of her marriage, she didn't have much in terms of prospects. Though she could have lived a comfortable life regardless, the aristocrat decided to carve her own path and become somewhat of an amateur explorer. She would venture off into the galaxy, on family-funded expeditions, and return with all sorts of oddities. During one of these treks, she found coins that would later become Demici heirlooms. It is unknown whether or not she was force-sensitive.

ASSETS

Manor House: The Demici Estate is home to the head of the Demici family and serves as the central location of all family events, meetings, or happenings. It sits on land owned by the Demici family for the last fifteen generations. Though the family has a long and extensive history, they have remained small in terms of numbers, especially when compared to some of the larger Houses; their ancestral home is not as grand as some of the others as it sits in the heart of the Serennian mountains; the estate is self-sufficient and features traditional architecture, such as vaulted structures and cylindrical towers. Given its history and recent circumstances, the Demici House has become quite insular, isolating itself from major political plays.

The Demici Memorial: The Demici Memorial is a shrine located on Mantero, the Funeral Moon of Serenno. This shrine covers the entrance of the family crypt; all familial ancestors are entombed in this location as it is believed that they can then gaze upon their descendants below on the planet of Serenno. Due to the family’s long bloodline, the burial site is rather extensive, with some likening it to catacombs. Access to this location is highly restricted.

Wealth: Much of the Demici family's wealth comes from the mining and distribution of silver found in the Serennian mountains. Pockets of Sacanium have also been discovered; the mineral ore is stronger than zersium when refined and rarer than phrik.

INTENT

To create site lore make links towards established houses which can be interacted with and referenced by other PCs, as well as to build personal lore for characters and possible content for later threads.

Edit: Changed slightly so it falls inline with recent timeline/site lore. Serenno is a planet affiliated with the Sith Empire
