House Thul
House Thul, a Great House of Alderaan, is one of the largest and wealthiest members of the Kingdom's nobility and a current member of the Court of Advisors. Counting House Girard and House Cortess as all but satellites, the leadership of the family has been well positioned to claim regency over the Kingdom for several generations, and has recently found itself emboldened by the fracturing of the Republic and the schism within the Jedi.

Based in Castle Thul and presiding over a great deal of the planet's natural resources, the house has - from its conception - been poised to maintain a considerable level of power and prestige.

History
While scholars and historians have found difficulty in placing the exact founding of House Thul, they know that its founding did not follow far after that of House Alde, with the original founder - Bornan Thul I - establishing a small nation-state within the valley of Kaamos, a large region of the planet. Early on in the formation of Thul, they granted nobility to House Cortess and subsidized the building of their House Estate, not far from Thul's own.

From this point on, the history of the House grew clearer, as their influence on the planet of Alderaan grew. They built a large trading syndicate, one that extended even outside the atmosphere of Alderaan, with dignitaries from Coruscant, Tython, Onderon and Serenno forming relations with House Thul, to varying degrees. Their reach expanded, and House Girard fell beneath their wing, with the formation of what many call the Sovereignty of Kaamos taking place, an independent state by the House of Thul. With the increasing centralization in Alderaan, however, they came into conflict with a number of other houses - particularly Antilles, Organa and Alde.

After an extended conflict, which threw Kaamos into turmoil, nearly obliterating Cortess and Thul, the House swore fealty to then King of Alderaan, given a position on the Council of Advisors to maintain peaceful relations within the planet's atmosphere. The treaty between Thul and the others was signed in on 11,563 BBY, though the historical tensity between the houses did not subside, even now.

Two millennia after the vassalage of House Thul, the leader of the family - Elyra Centrus Thul - conspired to supplant the ruling family, subsidizing a rebellious wing of House Alde and funding various rebels within the Kingdom. After nearly forty years of civil strife, leading to the complete dismantling of entire lesser noble families and the culling of many of House Thul's close relatives, the family was forced into submission once again, largely due to a weariness and exhaustion by the other houses, afraid of the rebellions that may have followed the destruction of their rival family.

Now, after nearly three millennia of relative peace within Alderaan, the House once again considers the prospective of rebellion, its people deeply resentful of the royal family and prepared to seek either domination or independence.

Culture
The culture of House Thul, and those within their dominion of the Kaamos region, is particularly distinctive from that of the people of Aldera, and the allied houses typically aligned closely to the Republic. Kaamosites, the people of their dominion, are renowned for their nihilism and radical philosophy. It is said that many of the original Exiles were funded ideologically by Kaamosite philosophers, who typically surrender the conception that goodness or virtue is a necessary function of life, citing that there is no true 'greater good' to fulfill.

Kaamosites are, therefore, typically hostile and amoral towards others who do not see eye to eye, and the majority of Alderaan's people consider much of their territory to be inhospitable. As a result of this, they are a fairly segregated people to the remainder of the planet, and have formed a completely distinctive culture in all ways, including their cuisine, art, dance, style of dress and dialect. Kaamosites are scarcely invited to great events within Aldera, and many consider inter-marriage between Alderaan's more culturally accepted citizenry and a man or woman of Kaamos to be distasteful, if not outright gross and unwanted. Despite this however, the people of Kaamos are an incredibly educated and wealthy citizenry, making up a large portion of the planet's economy and thus forcing their neighbors to accept their presence.

Law
House Thul enforces strict order within its own borders, often commanding executions for wholly minor infractions, with force-sensitive 'overseers' within the family's main or external branches overseeing the system of law. While all bets are off, generally, while dealing with others - Kaamosites are incredibly orderly and law-abiding within their own land. The region is known to be one of the most crime free areas within the Core Worlds, inviting a variety of wealthy merchants to move into the area, particularly those with philosophical similarity to the nihilistic people of the region.

Due to the intensity of Kaamos' punishments, Aldera's more central houses have often come to diplomatic fallout with House Thul, in response to members of the planet's 'outside' citizenry being executed or grievously harmed, often unwarranted.

Structure
House Thul upholds and maintains a great deal of the wealth and body within Kaamos, and has a fairly strict hold on the infrastructure of the region. With enclaves within many of the major cities of the region, and a vast trading network (a corporation known as Bornaryn Trading), the reach of their family is clear through a large portion of the Kingdom of Alderaan. It is clear that, within Kaamos, they are the evident leaders and do not take orders from others - not even Cortess or Girard.

The hierarchical structure of the family, on the other hand, is as follows:

1. The Lord/Lady
The Lord or Lady of House Thul is the primary heir of the family, or often a prominent, powerful and charismatic member of the primary, secondary or tertiary branches who claims power. Considering the flexible morality of most Kaamosites, the line of inheritance is not considered to be a final thing, and leaders of House Thul can be replaced by their close relatives if they are clearly daft or inferior to their competition. The Lord or Lady is often considered the Patriarch or Matriarch of the Kaamosites, and holds an incredible level of respect and authority within the region, and their trade holdings. They are a noble leader, a trader and a tactician all in one, as the family demands excellence. The current leader of House Thul is Lord Varyn Malek, a middle-aged man with what appears to be a working relationship with the Hutt Cartels.

2. The Sentries
The Sentries of House Thul are closely related members of the House who show considerable devotion to the House and their interests. They are typically at the head of Kaamosite corporations, often rank highly in the military, and are generally favored if they display force-sensitive capabilities. Sentries are given almost free reign within Kaamos, but are expected to act as role-models for the citizenry, and typically enforce order quite brutally. Sentries act as advisers to the Lord and Lady, and generally the leadership of the House is drawn from this group.

3. Minor House Members
Those not closely related, or simply disinterested in the affairs of the house are considered House Minors. While given great respect within Kaamos, they are not greatly respected within their family, and typically find their viewpoints disregarded. These individuals tend to be businessmen and soldiers, and those who wish to join the Sentries must prove their worth by ascending within the ranks of their field and showing unparalleled skill, as well as loyalty.

Assets
House Thul, as previously mentioned, maintains a great deal of authority over the resources and manpower of Kaamos, a large region within Alderaan. Controlling one of the Kingdom's largest trade organizations, and possessing a variety of intergalactic corporate enterprises, House Thul is among the richest within Alderaan, and boasts one of the largest regional populations. Furthermore, their grasp on House Cortess and House Girard places them as evident and persistent rivals of the Organa-Alde-Antilles historical alliance, with no side truly capable of total victory against the other - though the Thul have continuously tried.

Roster
1. Lord Varyn Malek, NPC

Sentries
1. N/A

Minors
1. Elias Canaan, of the secondary family line - generally considered disconnected due to Jedi recruitment at a young age.
2. N/A

Intent
Hey! The intent of writing this group was to create conflict and plot within the Kingdom of Alderaan, as well as an opportunity for foreign powers to play on the rivalry between Antilles (currently) and Thul, which could lead to Alderaan existing as a battleground between Exile and Jedi, or even some groups versus the Hutt Cartel, who have an interest in House Thul, and are currently aligned with Varyn Malek.

My hope is that by creating a group of moral outliers within Alderaan, the planet will continue to grow in tensity until conflict brews, which could flip the planet one way or another, and will (hopefully) lead to a great deal of plot and, y'know. Violence and all that good stuff.

Thanks for the read!

Hey there! While i like your train of thought, i think your vision of House Thul has taken on a bit too radicalized approach to creating tension within the Kingdom of Alderaan. Honestly with how radical you have it written now, i really don't see a member of House Thul being given a seat on the Council of Advisors.

Perhaps a more politically insidious approach? With a bit more militarism than the whole of Alderaan?
