Do you have what it takes, to pick up the candle and leave the protection of the circle of firelight? Do you have the strength to pick up the fallen candle? Do you have the courage to wander as a light amidst the shadows? Will you fight against the darkness that threatens to swallow mankind whole? A Hunters life is that of a constant Vigil. Whether a single man, a small cell, a compact or a world spanning conspiracy. All Hunters keep watch, battling the creatures that go bump in the night.

What is the supernatural?

Anything and everything out of the ordinary. From strange sightings in the darkness to Ghosts to Vampires to a Slasher.

Who are the Hunters?

The Hunters are people of the world who have taken up the Vigil. They usually have dealt with the supernatural before. This could be from:

  • You noticed strange symbols carved into your bosses cup at work which you find are related to a cult and you take up the Vigil to seek knowledge as to what this cult does t
  • You were having a late night run and peered into the woods only to see Mr. Landis from down the street transforming into something unnatural
  • You awake to sound of a scream, you grab your gun, you enter your child’s room to find your child’s body slaughtered a man standing over him, you shoot him and he stumbles back but doesn’t die. He disappears out the window and when you look he is gone
They arm themselves with weapons or wits, using whatever means are at their avail, they make the choice to cross the boundaries between the false light of ignorance and the dark depths of knowledge. They choose to learn, to seek, to explore, and to hunt. They choose the Vigil.

Who are you?
You are hunter, you've had a supernatural experience. Though you also have a life outside of being a hunter. You may have a family, you may be a kid, you will have a job. A hunter has to balance this is real life and his life as a hunter. You have to feed yourself and such. These are important aspects to your hunter. His/Her life as a hunter and as a person.

Here are some questions to consider when creating your hunter:

  • What is your concept?
    • example:
      • revenge-seeking widow
      • fanatic clergyman
  • Attributes
    • Attributes measure your character's basic capilities
      • Examples
        • Intelligence
        • Strength
        • Manipulation
  • Skills
    • Skills represent the things he knows how to do
      • Examples
        • Firearms
        • Occult
          • Myths, legends and lore of the supernatural
        • Intimidation
  • Skill Specialties
    • Skills specialites represent specific strength
      • Examples
        • A guy who is good with any gun but especially experienced in rifles
        • A scholar might be versed in Academics but has a focus in medieval history
  • Willpower
    • While a Hunter is human, he is something more. The Vigil is an obession that pushes them to extremes non-hunters never experience.
      • Examples
        • A woman lifts a car to rescue her child
        • A man trapped under a fallen tree cuts off his own leg with a penknife
        • A husband breaks a man's neck with his bare to save his wife
    • These aren't miracles, and they aren't born of the blood of undead or gifts from spirits. They just represent what human beings are capable of doing if they have the will.
  • What do you look like?
  • What Brought you to the Vigil
  • What type of Hunter are you?
    • Is your vigil a duty or revenge?
    • Are you only in to accomplish a goal or for the long haul?
    • Do you have a favored target or some sort of personal vendetta against a particular type of monster?
    • Do you see your weapons as jsut tools, or do they mean more to you than that?
Info on setting:

Plymouth, Oregon a small town with a population of 4525. It is located in northwestern Oregon. It sits about 20 miles off the main highway. The city is on a hill surrounded by forest, perfect place for people to do dirty deeds. It has a library, run by Alicia Laine. It holds some ancient texts brought along with the founder of the city Kevrik Plymouth. He is believed by some historians to be a lover of strange things but mostly just a land prospector. It’s courthouse was surprisingly one the first things, besides the library, that was built. It has been renovated for a more modern uses. There is High Water Elementary, Kevrik Middle, and Plymouth High school. The town is a former mining town, there is also an abandoned factory building which needs to be demolished but Juan Alvarez, the man who owns the building, won’t allow it to be demolished for some reason. There is an old cinema which shows only two movies at a time.

Surrounding the town there is deep dark forest. The crazy people of the town claim there are "goings ons" in the forest but many are brushed off as mental instability. An abandoned coal mine is direct west of the town, deep in the woods. The towns experiences odd things a lot but most ignore them stating that "such things aren't possbile" or "your eyes are playing tricks on you".

Yup.

man trapped under a fallen tree cuts off his own leg with a penknife
Dunno about you all, but if a person can cut through one's own leg with a penknife, can't s/he cut through the fallen tree holding him/her captive?

Incoming profile after I finish History homework.

Looks amazing.:CHappy:

Okey dokeys, here we go. Critisize away.

Name-Geoffrey Rush

Physical description- Short and stocky, tan, and usually clad in navy-blue coveralls.

Concept- Vampires killed every member of his theatre tech group. Vengeance is the key, here.

Profession-general mechanical know-it-all, specialty is in electronics, and formerly employed by The Lighting Troupe. Now works ceaselessly to destroy the vampire-kind.

Attributes-Can fix generally anything, due to his training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Very kind and usually fun to be around, when he isn’t in OMG I’m gonna kill you sucka’s! mode.

Skills-Advanced Repair
Melee Combat Proficiency
Firearms Advanced
Specialty is in Electronics

Equipment-carries a 5-pound wrench, with sharpened edges. Handy close-up, along with a .45 Glock handgun.

History-Geoffrey grew up largely ignorant of most of the beings hunted by the Vigil, except, of course, the bedroom bogeys and such. He progressed quickly through his college years in Massachusetts, and, after getting a degree in Theatre Tech, settled down to be a technician with the local Play House group. When the organization folded, Geoff went on to bigger and better things when his buddy, Max, informed him about tech opportunities out on the Pacific coast. Agreeing quickly, the two, with other friends, traversed up and down the Pacific Seaboard, looking for work, before coming down to live at a low-income projects area near Plymouth, Oregon, their dream diminished to an ad every week in the local newspaper.

When an actor’s group purchased an old building and renovated it for theatre usage, Max jumped at the employment opportunity. They quickly became recognized as skilled tradesmen, and drew flocks of people to the shows for the dazzling effects. One night, however, was different.

Just after the actors had finished up a rendition of The Music Man, Max, Geoff, and the rest of the techs were running around the theatre, wrapping cords, cleaning up the stage, switching off sound-boards, the works. A gang of greasy-haired punks walked in, and demanded the gathered attention of the techs.

“Thank you for coming, gentlemen” the spokesperson announced, “But your lives and service to this region are no longer needed!” With a feral grin, the gang transformed into ghastly specters of darkness and death, and attacked. The sleepy techs were caught off guard, and most quickly slaughtered. Geoff was late coming to the gathering, and saw many of his comrades fall, their necks turned to pulp by the wicked fangs of the vampires.

Grapping a microphone stand, Geoffrey crushed a vampires skull, barely recognizing the danger he was in. He swung the stand again, and caught a monster in the stomach, causing it to double over. Flipping it around, he stabbed straight through it, and was about to knock the leader off of Max when a vampire dropped from the hall ceiling and picked the tech up into the air.

Screeching in pain, Geoff savagely bit into the mans hands until he hit bone. The vampire swore and dropped him. The fall knocked him unconscious, and when Geoff awoke, the gang had gone, leaving only the ravaged body of his compatriots lying in their own blood. Crying as he clutched all of his friends in silent goodbye, Geoff swore vengeance on all of vampire-kind. Withdrawing everything from his bank account, he left north, the one direction he actually felt was right.

I agree it is long but informative. Yes at the beginning you must be a Hunter. We will at a later date, assuming this lasts that long, discuss other possibilities.

By looking at this it seems rather......demonic, is this true? If it is then I am afraid I will not be able to take part.

What do you mean by true? It deals with demons and devils, yes. Mostly to hunt them down and eradicate, study, or try to gain power from them

Niner, I feel pushed not to participate, too, due to the demonic-nesss of it. I think the key is to remember it's not real, and to keep a grasp on your faith at the same time.

Some demons and devils can't lie, so good to get info from. But in general Demons and Devils are bad.

Name: Jason Kelteimer

Physical Description: Tall muscular man, military high and tight brown hair blue eyes. Ussually seen in camoglauge pants, tight shirt (Think underarmor) his old dogtags, combat boots, a medium sized gold crucifix that his mom gave him before she died around his neck, and various weapons.

Concept: various demons killed his team, vengance against all demons in the key.

Profession: Soldier, Recently retired Marine Special Forces. Now works to destroy all demon kind.

Attributes: He can take apart, clean, and put back together almost any firearm in about three minutes. He is generally seen as a very stiff, formal, and slightly scary man. But once you get to know him he is reall quite fun to be around. His sometimes dry sense of humor can make almost anyone laugh.

Skills:
Unarmed combat
Bladed combat
Stealth
Marksmanship

Equipment: a Walther P5 highpowered handgun strapped to his right thigh, a boot knife in his left boot, a survival/combat knife on his belt sheath.

History: Jason grew up as a fearless little ankle biter, boogeymen in his closet or under his bed held no fear for him. He progressed through school quite well, finishing highschool with a solid B+ average. He was accepted to the United States Navel Academy were he graduated as a Marine officer.

His talents as an officer soon had him pegged for the Recon Marines, the elite of America's elite. He made it through the Recon Marine training and was found to be one of the most effective of the officers.

On one mission however, things went terribly wrong. His team stumbled across some ancient ruins that they decided to use as a base. Inside the ruins they came upon a stone that had glowing glyphs on it. One of Jason's team, a young private name Howsitz, touched the stone. As soon as his hand made contact a multitude of demons swarmed from cooridoors around them. Jason had watched in horror as Howsitz was devoured by a demon with rather large teeth. HE ordered the rest of his team to run for it. They ran, another member was overun by the swarms of demons coming after them. Jason and his one surviving comrade soon found themselves up against a dead end. They turned and started firing their weapons untill they were out of ammo. Jason watched the other man get dragged off into the darkness, screaming and clawing at the floor. He pulled out his knife and made a valient stand, but he slipped on some of the spilt blood and hit his head on the floor, knocking himself out.

He woke up later in a hospitle back stateside. During his debriefing he told his tale and was diagnosed as "mentally unfit for duty" The doctors said it was due to post traumatic stress of teh loss of his team and the knock on his head. In any event he was honerably discarged and sent home. He soon headed north, he just felt that it was the right thing to do...
