Hutt Council proclaims new Oyabun despite dissent from major Kajidics

The Grand Hutt Council has overseen the ascension of Nor'baal Desilijic Fa'thra as 'Oyabun' (Leader) of the Hutt Clans, in a meeting which was not attended by members of several ranking Hutt families. Formally, the position places Nor'baal - who was, until recently, a self-professed 'law-abiding citizen', and Governor of the Consortium world Kesel - at the head of one of the galaxy's largest Crime Cartels, the Hutt families. However, experts from the University of Bar'leth have noted with interest that the Council meeting was boycotted by the leaders of the Besadii, Anjiliac and Ando families, who rank as three of the premier Hutt clans of the age. The boycott effectively means that neither of the three families supported the new Oyabun as Leader, and could undermine his legitimacy as ruler.

Under the Kajidii system, a complex network of traditions that dates back millennia, Hutts are forbidden from acts of direct violence against others and are bound by a 'code of silence', meaning it is highly unlikely any of the dissenting clans will take direct action against the new leader. Despite this, rumours of increased security on Nal Hutta, especially around the new Oyabun, have been circulating through the mercenary guilds. The Bounty Hunters Guild has refused to comment on rumoured increases in its charges to Hutt moguls of late.

Whilst has not commented on the brewing inter-family conflicts, Nor'baal Desilijic made a speech earlier today, at the opening of a new sports arena on Nar Shaddaa, which has been widely seen as a thinly veiled threat to his rivals:

Translated from Huttese.

...as a lasting symbol of the might of the Hutt Clans. The Desilijic Stadium, the fourth of such a name in Hutt Space, serves as a glorious monument to the might of the Hutts, a might which, when questioned, can be displayed in full force. As your new, undisputed, Leader, I am pleased to commence by reign with the opening of this Stadium, which last stood open during the height of the Grand Hutt Empire.

Uncertainty has been the watchword of the Hutt Clans since the outbreak of the AMS Virus, which they claim was manufactured by the now-deceased Durr the Hutt, whom Nor'baal has replaced (on paper). The Hutt Council maintains the election of Nor'baal was legitimate, and that Durr the Hutt was acting without their consent. It furthermore has stuck to the claim that the assassination of Durr the Hutt was illegal, and was 'Hutticide', a crime considered to be the most serious one can commit in Hutt Space.

Independent experts continue to dispute these claims, universally.
