Kessel

It had taken time, but Thel had finally managed to arrange a meeting with Skelgok. The Hutt was Daimyo of Kessel. It had long been an ambition of his to forge connections with the Hutts, and this was the first step. His exploits on Troiken and Balosar meant that he had things of value that he could offer to them. He knew the Hutt would expect a tribute, so he sent ahead samples of what he would be offering them. The spice from Troiken would probably be satisfactory to the Hutt, but he felt the Ixetal Cilona would be of greater interest. The chemical was crucial in the manufacture of deathsticks. It was extracted from the Balo Mushrooms native to Balosar. He had obtained the chemical from Fergriss Pharmaceuticals, who were based on Balosar. The Ixetal Cilona he was offering the Hutt was top quality. Completely pure; no dilution.

He hadn’t revealed he was a Sith when arranging the meeting. He had instead presented himself as a member of a consortium of businesspeople, interested in working with the Hutt.

Thel’s ship descended from his transport and he landed on Kessel. He had brought a single KX droid with him, armed with a hand blaster, to act as a bodyguard. The droid had been “borrowed” from Arakyd Industries. Stepping down from the landing pad, he approached the governor’s mansion. Thel had opted to dress in his usual robes. He walked towards the guards at the entrance. “I have an appointment to see Daimyo Skelgok,” he stated calmly. His lightsaber was clipped to the back left side of his belt, concealed by his cloak.

Ever since taking over operations on Kessel, business had been booming. The mines were functioning with minimal delays, thanks in part due to the influence of a recent partner. Profitting from the misery of others was, in fact, the spice of life, both figuratively and literally. That is to say that the Hutt immediately pounced upon an opportunity dangled before him like a worm on a hook, as the intriguing offer opened yet another door in the galaxy of profit.

Inviting this new-found guest into a totally not modest throne room, Thel would spot an assortment of armed and ruthless looking Gamorrean guards, four beside the Hutt and two at the door he arrived from. Others mingled in their own little worlds around the room, each with drinks, platters and secrets. A large, prominent leather carpet adorned a direct path from said door up to the throne, where its end marked the spot he should speak from.

Naturally, the guards would permit Thel's entry and direct him forward to make his gift, and then with any luck, business would follow.

Thel was allowed to enter the Hutt’s mansion and he was guided into the throne room. The Hutt sat on their throne, with four brutish looking Gamorreans stood guard. No doubt this Hutt was exactly like the others. Avaricious and well connected. Exactly what Thel was looking for. He glanced around the room, looking over the different faces. The crowd was almost like the Hutt’s own royal court.

He walked down the carpet, which formed a path towards the Hutt’s throne. He stopped when he reached the end of the carpet. He bowed his head to Skelgok. “Great Daimyo Skelgok. I present my tribute.” He had sent ahead shipments of the spice and Ixetal Cilona, as a tribute. However, it was still necessary to abide by the traditional process. One of the Hutt’s servants approached their master. They presented a vial of the Ixetal Cilona and a small tray of the spice, to Skelgok. These were only tiny amounts of the shipments that Thel had sent. But it would give the Hutt a chance, if they hadn’t already sampled the goods shipped, to assess the goods.

It paid to do due diligence, and Skelgok was a suspicious character normally. It would be of no surprise that the Hutt had attempted to do some background work on this prospective business partner, with nothing coming up out of the ordinary. Further, the product that he had sent ahead was in fact confirmed to be legit, and thus the stage was set.

<"Welcome to Kessel and my home, strange friend."> The Hutt relished in the opportunity to remind everyone of this fact. <"Your tribute is well received, I hear you wish to make business?"> Normally he might have dragged it out a bit further, but it had been some time since his rancor had been fed and if the deal went south, well, two problems one solution no?

Thel waited as Skelgok took a short amount of time to look over what he had been presented by his servant. He was glad when the Hutt told him that the gift was satisfactory. “Thank you, Daimyo Skelgok. Yes, I do wish to secure an arrangement with you. If I may explain.” Thel paused for a few seconds before continuing. “Me and my associates would like to grant you access to regular shipments of our spice and Ixetal Cilona. I think you would be particularly interested in the Cilona. It is completely pure and, as I’m sure you know, it is crucial in the manufacture of deathsticks. With our supply, you could corner the market in this part of the galaxy,” he explained to Skelgok. “What we would like in return, is access to your contacts in the mercenary business and also a supply of slave labour.

The Hutt listened closely, as much as he would have liked the tribute to be given freely and out of friendship, the inevitable trade was proffered. With a slight eye roll, the large being contemplated. <"A risky endeavour, if I help you and whatever it is you do backfires, it could affect my business no doubt.">

Skelgok called up a servant and whispered in their ear before releasing them. <"Perhaps we shall find you some who are not closely aligned with the Cartel, but might still be eager for work. What did you say your name was again?">

Thel noticed the Hutt roll their eyes, but he remained stony faced. He listened as Skelgok expressed some concern. His KX droid guard stood behind him, keeping watch over the room. Eventually, the Hutt spoke again.

That sounds very good, Daimyo Skelgok,” he said in response to the Hutt’s suggestion about using people not as closely aligned with the cartel. “My name is Thel Xeros.” He saw no reason to lie in this situation. His name was meaningless. He had spent years drifting through the outer rim. There was nothing obvious that could link his name to the Sith. He wasn’t high profile enough to have warranted any great attention from authorities.

They very well may have been equals in power, in their own ways, but it was Thel that had come to the Hutt for help and not the other way around. These negotiations were going to be short and sweet and heavily in the Hutt's favour, or not at all, unless the man wanted to learn the hard way.

The name didn't mean anything to anyone in the room, at least not yet. <"My prisons are full and tragically so are my mines, so you may take your pick. My people will provide you with a contact name."> While he wasn't the richest Hutt in the galaxy, Skelgok had enjoyed wealth and luxuries since taking the throne of Kessel, and he was determined to keep the party going for as long as possible. <"Of course, I would humbly accept a twenty percent cut of the mercenary contracts prices. As a finders fee, naturally. If you do well, I will ensure that you never run out of 'contacts' should they need replacing. Do we have a deal?">

The grand Hutt sat atop his throne with a hand perched delicately over a button. A supreme confidence beset a great deal struck, and only Thel himself could stop it going through. Although once attached to the Cartel, one was never usually the same. Especially if word got out to the greater public.

Thel listened as the Hutt spoke.

That would be much appreciated Daimyo Skelgok,” he replied to Skelgok’s offer of a contact name.

Yes, we do have a deal. It’s been a pleasure doing business with you,” he said politely to the Hutt, bowing his head to them. He realised that Skelgok would want a deal skewed in his favour, but that suited Thel. He wanted to work with the Hutts, so it was necessary to compromise. Mercenaries and manual labour provided by the Hutts would be very useful in his endeavours. Skelgok seemed content with his agreement to the offer made.

If it is ok, I shall be leaving now. It has been an honour to have met you Daimyo Skelgok.” With that, Thel left the mansion, accompanied by his security droid. Returning to his scout ship, he flew back to his transport and then promptly retreated from the system.
