PLEASE DO NOT POST HERE.

This is a workshop for a species, planet, lore, and various other items I'm working on.

The Hyeshar

Species: Hyeshar (he-yesh-ar)
Designation: Sentient
Classification: Chiropteran Humanoid
Diet: Hematophagous
Lifespan: 250 Galactic Standard Years
Height: 2.2 to 2.6 meters
Worlds: Tersa

Biology:
The Hyeshar are a species of bipedal, chiropteran humanoids that stand on average between 2.2-2.6 meters tall with incredibly gaunt frames and long, gangly limbs. The skull of a Hyeshar is longer than most humanoids, allowing it to hold extra sensory and neural tissues as well as giving them an elongated appearance. Their skin is completely hairless and comes in a variety of pale and muted tones, ranging from yellows, to blacks, to greens, to blues. Their eyes are large, round, and sunken, with beady pupils sitting inside brightly colored sclera. Being a nocturnal species, their eyes will reflect light similar to cat eyes in the darkness. Their large hands and feet each sport five long digits, which end in short, hooked claws. Hyeshar have two large, fanged incisors on their upper jaw as well as long canines on both jaws. Being hematophages and carnivores, they lack the flat molars herbivores and omnivores have, instead sporting a mouthful of short, sharp teeth. Their tongues are prehensile and can be over a foot long while their mouths can unhinge to open far wider than most humanoids. Their ears are long and pointed, with hooked or upturned noses and large nostrils.

Being a predatory, nocturnal species, Hyeshar are host to a wide range of genetic traits and abilities designed to improve their odds of acquiring food. They natural senses of hearing and smell are heightened, while their eyes can see in pitch darkness the same way most being see in broad daylight. Their jaws are strong enough to crack bone and chitin while their tongues produce a natural decoagulent that makes bite wounds bleed more heavily. The Hyeshar have an almost unnatural wiry strength that, combined with their sharp claws and sharper reflexes, can make them formidable in close combat.

Breeding:
Hyeshar reproduce via intercourse between a males and females, resulting in the live birth of infants. In terms of sexual dimorphism, males are often taller than females with longer teeth and nails. Females, conversely, are generally shorter than males, sporting longer ears and tongues. Beyond this, they share the usual differences between male and female mammals, such as mammary glands and reproductive organs. Hyeshar generally only give birth to one child at a time, and in rare cases twins, but never to more than two children at once. Twins are considered somewhat sacred by the Hyeshar, who believe that two beings so closely sharing family blood is a sign of purity, loyalty, and potential ability. Newborn Hyeshar are always chalk white, toothless, and clawless, with large eyes that are almost entirely black. Overtime their skin and eyes begin to develop color as their teeth and nails grow in, although like humans their eyes do not grow so they can appear comically large as infants. Hyeshar reach physical maturity at age 21, and can live to be 250 years old.

Weaknesses:
Hyeshar are a nocturnal species, not adapted to the sunlight at all. Because of this their eyes are extremely sensitive to bright light and their skin burns easily (and severely) in sustained sunlight. Their sensitive ears and noses can also be easily overloaded by sudden loud noises or powerful smells. While blood flows plentifully on Tersa, Hyeshar find it much harder to meet their dietary needs on other planets, especially since most other species find drinking live blood distasteful to say the least. In fact their need to drink blood has given the Hyeshar a reputation vicious monsters and sadistic savages in the rest of the galaxy.

Diet:
The Hyeshar are primarily hematophagous, meaning that they feed on the blood of living organisms. Hyeshar can get nutrition from a variety of species, sentient or otherwise, excluding any with a unique chemical makeup such as the ammonia-based Gand and the oxygen-less Kel Dor. The only real caveats are that any blood cells ingested must be alive to be nutritious as dead blood is at best non-nutritious and at worst poisonous. A Hyeshar can actually learn certain biological details about a person by tasting their blood, such as cholesterol and blood-sugar, as well as detecting conditions like pregnancy, poison, and blood-borne diseases. Since they largely feed on live organisms and raw meat for sustenance the Hyeshar are highly resistant, bordering on immune, to most diseases and natural toxins, although they can become unwitting carriers for diseases they contract from their food. They also have no resistance to artificially created toxins and diseases. Because they feed on blood, which has a high water content, Kruwros require very little water to survive if well fed.

The average Hyeshar consumes around 2-3 liters of blood each day, and can last roughly three days without feeding. A Kruwros' appetite is no more or less ravenous than any other beings, so if a Kruwros misses their morning meal or sees someone bleeding they won't devolve into a bloodthirsty savage. After a few hours, however, a Kruwros is likely to become more agitated and less picky about what they consume. And after a day or two they'll become just as desperate for blood as any starving or dehydrated sentient.

Kruwros can also eat meat, which unlike blood can be served live, dead, raw, or cooked, however a particular Kruwros likes. They can also ingest alcohol and small amounts of plant matter, but they lack the proper teeth or digestive systems to handle large amounts of plant-based food. Eating too much plant matter can cause a Kruwros to become ill or even vomit.

Behavior/Temperament:
Those Hyeshar found in the galaxy are either fugitives, exiles, or refugees from their home planet, which has given them a reputation as a humorless and grim people.

Communication:
Hyeshar communicate the same way most species do, by passing oxygen through their lungs and diaphragm to vibrate vocal cords in their throat to create sound. The real differences lie in their methods of communication and what their language sounds like. The Hyeshar language, Hyeshec, has been described as 'musically guttural' by galactic linguists do to its unique phonetic structure. Hyeshec has a natural flow to it, with consonants and vowels often blending together to create sounds that, while individually harsh, can be eerily melodious when spoken out loud. Hyeshec relies heavily on rolled R's and drawn out S's, almost like the growling and hissing of an animal. Hyeshar can speak other languages such as Basic or Huttese, although their accent tends to be very raspy and nasally.
