DESCRIPTION
The I-BEAM starfighter is a small combat spacecraft originally developed by an unknown species around the time of the Galactic Civil War. The type was predominantly used by the Galderian Slave Trader organization, a loathsome band of slavers who had presumably enslaved the I-BEAM's original designers. They manufactured the type for their own use, and offered it for sale to interested parties, these generally being other crime syndicates.

As starfighters go, the I-BEAM is more or less typical of its era. 10.5 meters in length, it is armed with 3 medium laser cannons and lacks its own hyperdrive, depending on carriers or external hyperdrive rings to traverse interstellar distances. Top sublight speed is 100 MGLT, and maneuverability is decent. Of note, the I-BEAM has a deceptively large cockpit for its size, making it attractive to larger species who aren't put off by its origins.

I-BEAM starfighters are no longer manufactured in large numbers, the Galderian Slave Traders having been wiped out by a rare Rebel-Imperial joint operation that decimated the slavers' fleet and broadly put an end to their operations. As a result, I-BEAMs are relatively scarce today, although certain boutique shipyards have been known to build them to order. In any event, they are most commonly seen in the hands of mercenaries, pirates and - of course - slavers.

LEGALITY
Restricted. I-BEAMs are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To bring an interesting ship from Legends canon into our site's fanon, and to create a ship suitable for larger species who might want to fly a starfighter.
