DESCRIPTION
A rather common starship modification—and one of a few legal modifications that come at a reasonable price—offered by Corellian Engineering Corporation, inflatable pontoons were commonly installed aboard light freighters and other craft that had dedicated business on water worlds like Mon Cala or Manaan, as they allowed for safe water-landings, staying afloat, and even take off from the water.Rectangular pontoons were installed to frame the ship's landing gear. Depending on the ship model, spherical pontoons might also be required to elevate any mandibles. Ships with inflatable pontoons installed onto them also had their landing jets modified so that they could divert atmospheric gas into the pontoons in order that they would inflate upon landing. Those pilots that might not have much experience in starship maintenance and mechanics could also opt to rig the pontoons themselves by connecting them to dedicated tanks that would inflate them with pressurized gasses upon landing.
LEGALITY
Legal. This ship upgrade was sold wherever Corellian ship extras could be bought and were even common upgrades found in most second-hand starship shops or junkyards. They were easily installed, even by less-experienced mechanics, and were even an expected ship modification on those ships doing business on water worlds.INTENT
(Can you tell I've been reading the YT-1300 owner's manual?) To create a starship upgrade that actually isn't advanced in any way, that anyone can attach to their ships within reason. Could create some interesting scenarios in a role-play setting if they're used right.ADVANCED TECH
No. These upgrades are common, widely sold, and very affordable for your run-of-the-mill freighter pilot.
