Containment
A Story Of Intrigue and Horror

The elite members of The Initiative have been contacted by a desperate medical research corporation known as Unified Biotech Systems, Inc., to discreetly provide an unconventional solution to a catastrophe. Research being conducted at Facility 931 on the world called Coveway II, a dwarf planet in the Koradin sector in the Outer Rim, has been compromised by a breach. The facility has been lost, and an evacuation failed - as of 30 hours after initial reports of the crisis, no contact has been made with anyone from the station. The corporation has been dreading the worst.

After a scout team also failed to report back after being sent in 6 hours after the initial distress call, the corporation has resolved to contain the situation. The Initiative is being offered a multi-million contract to go in and secure the station. This involves uncovering what has transpired at the station, rescue any survivors, recover as much research as possible, and destroy all evidence of the station's existence.

The corporation is growing more nervous as the clock ticks, and is clearly panicked by the prospect of anything unauthorized escaping the facility.

The Planet: Coveway II is an average sized world in the Koradin sector in the Outer Rim. The only other planet of notice, Coveway, has been uninhabited after a colony set up by the Galactic Republic of old fell apart. UBS owns the rights to the world. Volcanic in nature, sparse vegetation grows (limited to moss and low lying plants), covering dark ash. Looming mountains and active volcanoes dot the relatively flat terrain. There are some pools and lakes, and in the Northern and Southern tips there are frozen ice caps. The world is covered in a seemingly neverending cloud of mist (low lying clouds). The world's atmosphere is filled with lots of methane and carbon dioxide, and only 15% oxygen. The world is still in the process of developing the means to support complex forms of life, and UBS has not bothered to spend millions to terraform a planet that holds only one remote facility. Gravity and atmosphere is standard. The world cannot support anything better then microorganisms. Larger creatures that can survive in extreme conditions have no incentive to make their home on the world.

OOC: Pics are based off of Iceland in the summer/spring. Think the opening footage in Prometheus.

The Facility: A medium sized facility, the research being conducted was classified, although one can infer it is medical related - and dangerous enough to be located in a remote, uninhabited world. Self contained and self-sustaining, it contains staff quarters, research labs, storage rooms, a comms/command center, and an armory. Located near the Northern ice cap, it is covered in snow and ice in the winter. In the spring (current setting), the ice is melting away and grass and moss are growing over the volcanic ash. A cool mist prevents the sun's rays from illuminating the area, but allows for a cool atmosphere - not that one can go outside of the controlled atmosphere of the research facility.

The facility is staffed by over 200 researchers, fifty of which hold degrees. There were also 100 security staff, which is a very unusual amount for a medical research facility. The security staff were equipped with weaponry on par with those used by the military forces of the Empire and GA, along with armor and other equipment.

The facility was equipped with a powerful communications dish, and the power generator is a stable fusion reactor that is unlikely to have shut down. Therefore, it is unlikely the cause for this incident is related to a power failure or communications failure.

It is also laced with self destruct charges in the event of widespread contamination. Requires three of the senior staff to insert special keys into a computer console in the command center, along with retina scans for confirmation of identity. Self destruct was not activated.

The Employer: Unified Biotech Systems, Inc., is a renowned, albeit relatively new biotech research corporation with an emphasis on medical applications. Its corporate offices are listed with Coruscant addresses. Most interestingly, it is owned by a conglomerate that controls a variety of corporations that deal in various industries, and has known government ties. UBS has also employed some of the brightest scientists and has accumulated a large budget to support advanced research on planets that it holds the rights to, despite being founded less then a year ago. It has also put together the means to offer a 3.5 million contract to the Initiative for completion of the following objectives:

1. The rescue and extraction of any survivors
2. The recovery of data
3. Secure the facility and compromised material - may require destruction of the facility

The secondary team that was sent in was made up of 40 heavily armed security staff members that were in the nearby sector. Again, no return contact after entry.

The corporation is acting most strangely, and has demanded the group depart and arrive in orbit of Coveway II before it elaborates more on the circumstances of the mission. It has warned not to expect functional environmental systems, so the team must be equipped with personal air supplies/suits that are rated for biological threats. They have also requested Init starships be on standby to eliminate the facility by orbital bombardment if necessary.

The whole thing is very mysterious, and very unusual. A corporation with government ties and its own, private security force, is outsourcing a very unusual and dangerous mission to a private institution. The mission reeks of suppressing some sort of occurrence that should not have occurred.

Recruiting all eligible Init members. Looking for about 5 PCs who can post at least once in a three day period. Need science types and soldier types. Depending on the volume of applicants, may be more selective. Please include your activity level in posts per 24 hours when applying, for personal reference.

Nevermore will be assisting in NPC/GM duties, the extent of which is still to be determined.

Will edit as needed. Will add a map once I get around to completing one.

The team will be inserted by an Init starship group that will remain in orbit as a support team.

Cast:

The Adamant Crusader as Borey, mysterious shapeshifter "3 n 1"

Gaja as Jon Vega, Deadly Chiss Immortal

Solaris as Nasiri Lavii, Chiss High Immortal

Luster as Lupo Sherradde, Mercenary

Xan as Xanthus, Gray Force Sensitive

Caluum Fallire as Or'dinii Fett

Niklas as Wraith

DISCLAIMER: By applying you submit your character to possible injuries, though none will be life-ending - merely serious/debilitating/scarring that will leave only superficial marks by the end of the mission.

I will offer Borey, 3 in 1, for this!

I can post, for the most part, every day. Although sometimes I get tied up with RL responsibilities.

I have a hard time understanding your character TAC. Can you just list his skills plain and clear for a simpleton like me?

Ahahahaa, damned non-stat based character sheets.

Basically, he's a shape shifter. So he can be what ever you need him to be. And that can change in a moment's notice, if you suddenly need something else to be done!

I'm going to accept you as we need a character with a diverse skillset. This is going to be quite the unique situation for yall. ;)

I'll throw Vega in there as well. Should be a good time, unless you know we die...

Maybe I can finally use Lupo for something. He's in.

Also a side note on a little of your science of the planet. Only 35% oxygen is a lot seeing as over 70% of Earth's atmosphere is nitrogen, and that much is hazardous to human health. I understand that you want to make the environment deadly but the "only" is not necessary. Also a dwarf planet would have below standard gravity and you could argue the basis for the atmospheric pressure because it's core could be very active and thick enough to produce a very strong magnetic field.

Just my two cents

You didn't just claim a magnetic field helps keep up atmospheric pressure, did you?

Andregaard can make a cameo, if you'd like, but I'm trying to avoid having him in any RPs on account of a growing desire to retire the character to NPC status.

Nasiri Lavii has had some experience dealing with plagues like this, so I'd like to volunteer her for this mission. Plus, y'know, she hasn't actually RPed with Vega yet.

So for now we have Borey, Vega, Lupo and Nasiri. Sounds like a solid team.

As far as Nasiri and Vega actually RPing this raises the question should they go in with the Phoenix virus, or without it?

Wish we could go in with some Immortals gear [armor and such] but since this is an Initiative mission I guess Cerberus armor it is. [Still gonna get that Phoenix virus for Vega]. Should be fun seeing some Rakghouls freak the **** out in this one. No saying it'll be that easy for us but still.

If you were looking for a fifth to join in, Operative Xanthus is available. Daily posting is available on the assumption that stuff doesn't get crazy on my end.

I'm liking this squad a hell of a lot. We've assembled a kickass team with a lot of equally badass characters with skilled players behind em. As for the science, I'm just going to change it to a regular sized planet, it's not that big of a deal in the long run. I was hoping to map out the facility, but that doesn't look like a possibility as I haven't been able to find a good mapping software. Looks like I'll have to settle for a crude drawing, you guys will need something to use as reference once you go in. The whole thing centers around location.

Thanks for spoiling the unknown threat yall. -___- I was planning for a thematic entry, so at least ask surprised/horrified when that happens.

Xanthus, I was hoping to use non-Force sensitive operatives for this mission. The whole Force aspect is a whole nother thing. But I suppose you could come along, just keep in mind the darkness of the whole situation will really tempt him back to the Dark Side (I'm assuming from a once-over your character he's more gray then red atm). The place could VERY easily consume a Force user. You have to be very aware of that if you want to commit to this thing.

Solaris, please also consider this for Nasiri. If anything it could play right into character development if your down for that. The sort of "consuming" I'm referring to is Dark thoughts, flashbacks, spooky whispers, memories, hallucinations, strong temptations to tap into Dark Side powers, etc. It has to do with the fact that hundreds have died on the facility, and they're bringing back a Sithspawn.

Of course, all our non-Force sensitive friends will be along for the ride and will watch their friends struggle to control themselves while blasting and slicing through foes. Should be very fun. :)

I think we can have the IC up and running momentarily. We will start off in an Init cruiser as the Init starship group enters orbit. Then the team will enter its gunship and be inserted into the facility.

Oh goodie, Nasiri will be in that sort of a mood.
She's an empath. Expect her to get gratuitous with the ultraviolence.

Alright. Still hoping we can get a science type on board but considering such characters are very few and far in between, I'm going to just relegate those duties to NPC in orbit. The team will just be tasked with obtaining the data and then beaming it to orbit. More elaboration IC.
