A previous attempt at an interest check for a similar faction didn't receive many responses, but I wanted to try my hand at it anyways. Mainly because I can see a tremendous potential for a story to be told here.
I'll cut straight to the chase: I am interested in starting an independent faction for the Guardians of the Whills. The faction would revolve around characters—both Force-sensitive and non-sensitive—who rally together, following Coruscant's fall, to protect the Temple of the Kyber on Jedha. Why? Fairly simple. The temple sits over the largest mine of kyber crystals (presently) known in the galaxy. Both the Jedi and the Sith obviously want these crystals for their lightsabers and, more pressing, it is clear that the Sith would want the crystals for their super-weapons—the first of which they will use in the conclusion of the Battle of Coruscant.
The Guardians, being a sect of Force worshipers seeking to protect this ancient place of pilgrimage, would work to protect the temple from all who would seek to plunder its riches. This would necessitate their offering services in assistance to the Jedi Order and the Republic—perhaps to carry out specialized missions and whatnot. Other faction activities would include expanding their protection to other sites rich with kyber crystals as their [the Guardians'] numbers begin to swell.
In regards to organization, canon sources indicate that the Guardians of the Whills do in fact have ranks: duans, which is synonymous with the real-world martial arts rank of "dan." At least seven dauns exist, as it is upon the seventh duan that they construct their signature weapon: the lightbow. I will, as a result, look to the Japanese martial arts to form the basis of the other ranks in the structure.
My character, Tau Lu, would act as the group's de facto leader, though I have yet to decide whether the organization will be run by a single individual or a council of sorts. I am open to input in that regard.
I believe this group would be a good addition to the RP, because it allows players to roleplay within a Force-worshiping group without their character having to be Force-sensitive. The centrality of kyber crystals to both the Sith and the Jedi would open up roleplaying opportunities between this faction and two of the main faction, and would allow member-characters the ability to work closely with the Jedi despite not being Jedi themselves. More, it allows us to explore another facet of the main theme of this timeline, which is religious fanaticism.
The Guardians, in their reverence for peace and the Force, serve as a middle ground between the two war-hungry factions (the Jedi and the Sith). Plus, I think it would be fun just to explore a group of Force-worshipers that don't have shiny laser swords and flashy Force powers. But that's just me. This is our opportunity to tell how a very interesting—and relatively new—group of Force-centric monks get their start, before their downfall at the hands of the Empire.
So! If you are interested, have characters in mind, or anything of the sort, post here! If there is enough interest or commitment, I'll draft a faction and get the process started!
