Would anyone be interested in an indie faction that was essentially comprised of people who don't necessarily want power, or money, but just want to help others?

They'd essentially be a freelance group of doctors, scientists, medics, and other such professionals that rent out their personnel to other factions (cuz something's gotta pay to keep the lights on) and also undertakes humanitarian and relief programs of their own volition. If you're interested, or have a character already that'd fit perfectly into such a mold, let me know!

Woo.

I'm smelling Followers of The Apocalypse-Class stuff, and I have an interested char. Evagria, The Faithful would be perfect for this.

Ranger rework will include something like this. The Commune Remnant will work to spread aid through non violent means. I wish you luck in this endeavor also as the galaxy has plenty of room for some welcome peace

Awesome! One down.

Perhaps, if this goes through, we could even collaborate on some missions.

I like this and would love to be involved. No one I have really fits it right now, but I like it. Might have to do some rotating things around.

Medecin Sans Frontiere (Doctors Without Borders) would make for a really interesting Indie Faction, I think.

Yes! That is exactly what I was thinking of.

Would you accept jedi characters? My jedi knows how to use force heal so does that count or since he is a part of the war you can't accept him?

Anyone who can heal or defend others may be accepted.

I'm going to jump in here and say that I think the faction would work best if it were made up of either force-blind doctors and other support personnel. Part of the interest for the faction, at least for me, is the execution of working to save the lives of the injured or forgotten without aid from esoteric witchcraft. Not every faction needs to have trained Force Users, especially a non-combat one like this one would be.

They're there to do a job for the benefit of the people caught in the crossfire of war or caught by the aftereffects of it (shattered economy, ruined infrastructure, etc). I could certainly see a member of this faction being force sensitive in the most rudimentary sense (increased empathy, bad feelings, strokes of luck and so on) but I think having someone lay on hands and close their eyes and suddenly everything is better, would cheapen the ethos of what Manderley was trying to do.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Manderley. That said, I think you should consider the idea of having the faction be force blind.

That is a good point. Just using the Force to heal people also means that those who can't do that are automatically less effective in comparison, and weakens their ability to contribute equally. I'm going to have to take it into consideration. At this point, though, there isn't even a finalized write-up, though with this sort of interest in a faction like this I'm definitely going to work on one.

“Silence has long been confused with neutrality, and has been presented as a necessary condition for humanitarian action. From its beginning, MSF was created in opposition to this assumption.
“We are not sure that words can always save lives, but we know that silence can certainly kill."

-Dr. James Orbinski, then-President of the MSF International Council

A quote from the MSF website headlining their principals. While I think it would be cheap to simply make a star wars copy of MSF and wholly counter productive, I think that, when you do your write up, you should keep that quote in mind when building the character and core of your faction.

If you can't accept my character because he is force sensitive I understand good luck I hope that I can work with this faction in the future

I absolutely will. Thanks so much for your help!

Make em sell pancakes

Heck yeah. Nothing smells like victory like a million pancakes in the morning.

I've not decided for certain as yet whether I will accept Force-sensitives or not, but thank you.

Rude.

My posting about being a force blind faction was simply an idea. There's not even a write up for it and Manderley was the one who came up with it. It's their thing, I was just making a suggestion based on what I thought personally.

I know I just wanted to make sure Manderley knows I won't have any negative feelings if she did make it a force blind faction. I would be sad if it was out of guilt I was accepted but can't wait to see how the faction goes

I think you misunderstood The Duke's obviously jocular statement. Who, in any rightness of mind, would take a comment about a faction doing nothing selling pancakes even remotely seriously?

I would.

This faction is henceforth known as Crepes Sans Frontieres (Pancakes Without Borders).
