Well, i'm going to try my best to get this started.

Hello, i'm TriumphofMight (i am very accepting of any amalgamation the gel in my cranium can recognize as a shortening of the name.) and this is literally my first roleplaying website. Never done a forum based roleplay before, but i have done chatbased, and real life roleplays with some friends from my school. I know quite a bit about the lore of Star Wars, but nothing compared to the massive knowledge base that's out there. My knowledge stretches from the movies, to the kotor games, taking a pit stop on the battlefront series, and coming to a screeching halt at the expanded universe books. (the series about Han Solo's jedi kids.).

Fingers crossed that i do actually stick with this site, and stay active. From what i've seen so far of the community this seems like a really great place to do this sort of thing with some really interesting personalities to boot.

Now on to my first question (Brace yourselves, your about to get blasted with the full power of the dumb side of the force!):
I've noticed with some peoples characters they seem to want to start at the bottom rung of whatever they are creating. Padawans, acolytes, new stormtroopers, and the like. Is that a trend, or a mandatory part of character creation? I guess a simpler version of my question would be this: If i make, for example, a jedi or sith, do i have to make them the fresh faced new guy?

P.S: I'm already scouring the site for any other information that's necessary for this, and i've conceptualized my first character. Can't wait to get started and delve into what i hope will be a lasting experience.

Hey there TrimpuhOfMight, so glad you can join us. As for your question, yes its advisable if making a character whether it be Jedi or Sith to start off at the bottom but don't worry you can work your way up. Anyway I hope you have fun here!

Welcome to the site! Enjoy your time here!

Also, yes, it is mandatory to start at the bottom rank of any Main Faction. Jedi and Sith will only let you make a Padawan/Acolyte for your first character in each separate faction. You can, however, make a new character of the same rank as any you've achieved after. So, for example, if your first Jedi made it to Jedi Knight, you can make a new Jedi Knight character (with approval from a faction leader). However, you still wouldn't be able to make a new Jedi Master, up until you actually attained that rank with one of your previous characters.

Hope that helps, TOM!

Well, thats not entirely true, you can have a character start out at knight if he's a Jedi for example, but you would have to talk to the FL and get them approved in advance.

My first character started out as a knight, but I had to work for it. you generally start off at the lowest rank so you can get used to RPing, and make some friends on the site.

I'm Ender. I'm your resident Fandalorian, imperial trooper, rebel intelligence officer, guy.

Hey Welcome to the site! You'll probably get a PM from Padme explaining some things soon enough, as for now the outlawed stuff is pretty much a good guideline for the basics. You'll get input on your character profile from other members once you've made it and I think anyone is pretty open to answering questions if you have any in a step by step process. Pretty much just don't make anyone from a species not in play, or from a planet not in play, and balanced in terms of realism as a new character who will roleplay their experiences and growth (Like NO Sith newbie knowing force lightning or a Jedi who is a master of several lightsaber forms or a Jack of all trades with no flaws).

^w^

You'll have fun I know it!

Yeah. Just go tell Rom you're taking over the Sith. I'm sure that will go well.

While we're at it, I'll just be taking the title of Mandalore. No one will mind, right?

Smart aleck.

I've never heard of this before. Maybe it's just a Jedi thing? I know the Sith don't do it. I do know some minor Factions do it, but their case is different.

Hello and welcome from another newb :) take it from me, 10 years RPing, especially on forums, starting out as a 'learner' can be quite fun, mainly because if you are like me, you can be a cheeky brat and get away with :D

I wouldn't let it put you off, even on my own forum, we encourage folks 'not' to take on high positions. If they do, we give them exams to do :P

I'll just call you Tom, simpler that way.

Anyhow Tom, welcome to the forum. To clarify, generally new players, when joining a main faction [Jedi, Sith, Hutt Cartel or Rebels], start out with the lowest rank and work their way up. Sometimes exceptions can be made but that's really on the rare side and I wouldn't advise it. Starting fresh is good for multiple reasons; mainly because it allows you to actually develop your character through threads. Another benefit to starting out with everyone else is that you'll have plenty of people who are in the process of doing thread and developing their characters, doing missions and their own stories. Much easier to find people to RP with that way so there's that.

You can of course start out as an Independent [Indie] character and not be part of any main faction if that tickles your fancy.

If you have any questions that need answering, don't hesitate to ask me.

Welcome TOM!

Glad to have you.

As for your original question- yes, while some FL will from time to time make an exception- our site rule is that all new users start off at the lowest rank possible. This is not merely something we the admins have to punish new members. Rather we see it as a way for new members to hone in on our forum lore, and get to know members IC 'ly and sometimes OOC'ly .

I hope you are having a pleasant stay thus far . Be sure to read my welcome PM and let me know if you need anything .

Kudos Kevin and Pete.
