Yeah, I gotta agree with Adena and Radzkie. Long lived and faded will get lonely and aggrevating, and short lived but famous will piss you off by how many chars you're creating.
People should think of their characters all as moving parts within one giant engine, the engine being SWRP and its story as a whole. Some parts are bigger and, as such, some characters will be bigger within the story and will be (for lack of a better word) more important from a galactic standpoint. Others won't be as important from a galactic standpoint.
But from an OOC standpoint and from the standpoint that the engine keeps running, they're all important. Each can't function without the other. You can't just have a Jedi Grand Master without Jedi Padawans, and you can't have Jedi Padawans without a Jedi Grand Master. That Padawan can certainly aspire to being the Grand Master, but that doesn't mean it will become Grand Master.
That's the way to think of the importance of your character. Just because you're a low level mercenary and someone else is Emperor of the Hutts doesn't mean you're not important or vital to the story. All characters have a symbiotic relationship with one another.
With that in mind, you can then go ahead and have fun RPs, and whatever happens happens. If you become Supreme Chancellor, great. If you remain a Bogan Crusader, that's awesome too. All roles are necessary.
I really like the deep answers guys. I formulated this topic because I might have to go with one of these with a character not everyone would expect. So thanks.
