Carrick had been working hard for so long to get his plans for the ISC military up and running that actually announcing it to the Galaxy? Well it was akin to undoing a pressure valve, he was beginning to think he had been close to over-working himself. Thankfully he had learned lessons and he knew how to allocate his time far better than he did before. One thing that still took up time, however, was press conferences though, this time at least, it would be slightly harder than he was expecting.

No cherry picking of reporters in this case, the floor was open to questions from reporters in the room with him and those linked to the announcement via holonet feed as well. Though he did maintain control of the mute function when it came to the holonet vid feed reporters just in case some of them decided to try and derail the whole thing.

Stepping out to the podium, Carrick did his best to ignore the flashes of several different types of cameras and feeds. The noise that accompanied his entrance was, likewise, ignored for the moment as he came to a stop behind the podium. Placing his hands atop the podium, Carrick smiled a little bit as he gave the assembled reporters a respectful nod.

"Thank you for your time today everyone - I'll do my best to be that most rare kind of politician; one blessed with brevity." he smiled a little wider, "It is my pleasure to announce that the ISC will no longer stand in the Galaxy with merely it's best intentions to safeguard it's peoples. I am proud to announce the formation of both an Army and a Navy that will serve the ISC as a whole. And I am prouder still to be joined here today by officers from said military!"

He ignored the flurry of questions and gestured with his right hand to the side of the room - through the door a trio of sentients dressed in military dress uniforms stepped into the room. With precise steps, the trio moved to stand behind Carrick, coming to a parade rest as they did so.

"Commander Suvo Tanwa, Fleet Admiral Scora Izer and General Kuna Trillo."

A Rodian male in the yellow highlighted dress uniform of a Commander of the Navy, a dark skinned female human in the blue uniform of Fleet Admiral and an almost sickly pale human man in the red of a General of the ISC Army.

"Myself and these brave officers will now take questions from reporters both in the room and live via the holonet. One question at a time please, thank you."

 

[Soma Stargazer]

In attendance tonight was the beloved and lovely reporter for The Galactic Gazette, Soma Stargazer. She was very excited to be put on this meeting to gather any big answers to her questions from the Secretary and the newly introduced Officers in the ISC Army and Navy. As expected there was a decent sized crowd for the press conference, which isn't so bad. It's the reporters that call in from the holo that really urk her nerves. She made it here and she'll be damned if that was going to not be enough. Promotion here she comes!

"Mr. Secretary! Over here!"

She would take the time to stand up and introduce herself to the ISC Secretary of Defense.

"Soma Stargazer of The Galactic Gazette, what does the introduction of the Army and Navy mean exactly? As in, will the ISC seek to join the war waging against the Sith or will the ISC remain neutral in those regards?"

Soma stood smiling, as always, in her new dress and held her data pad in her hands as she was ready to document the answer of the Secretary regarding her question.

[Carrick]

The press immediately started asking questions but Carrick was the one who decided who actually got to get their questions answered. Spotting a reporter in a rather fetching blue dress, Carrick gestured to her with his hand and a smile for her to ask away. His smile widened ever so slightly as she introduced herself and he bowed his head slightly in greeting to her before fixing her with his full attention as she asked her question.

A single question with a clarification was still just one question so he was happy enough to give her an answer full enough to help her article.

“Lovely to meet you Miss Stargazer – I admit that your work keeps my subscription to the Gazette going.” He declared, buttering her up with a touch of flattery and truth before moving onto the question itself, “As for what the introduction of the Military means? Well, some of the ‘Old Heads’ in government will tell you that a Government is not to be taken seriously unless it has some way to defend itself.”

He shrugged ever so slightly as if to suggest he did not hold this opinion himself before pushing onto the other half of the question.

“The war with the Sith is currently a concern for the FWA and the New Republic; the ISC and the Sith are currently not in a state of war, despite past terrorist attacks against certain ISC individuals. If this is to change, it will be based on the will of the peoples of the ISC, the ISC cabinet and the President.” He gave her a boyish smile, “Declaring war out of hand is not part of my job description I’m afraid – I’m just a public servant.”


Carrick nodded to the reporter.

"The ISC Military is not being formed to wage war against the Sith or anyone else; merely to stand ready to defend the ISC from any who would see it harmed."

[Meetra Zenik]

Meetra Zenik of The New Republic was also in attendance and was the next to stand. She had anticipated questions about the Sith war, but knew the Secretary of Defense would not admit to joining the war against the Sith. She had been following his remarks at the recent meeting of the Galactic Senate and knew where he stood on the matter. Her question would take a different approach.

"Mr. Secretary," she said, standing, a pleasant smile etched onto her features. "Meetra Zenik of The New Republic. Thank you for taking questions. Your position on the war is well-documented. I followed your remarks at the recent session of the Galactic Senate closely. But I wonder if I might ask: If not the Sith, what do you see as the greatest threat to the Consortium's national security?"

Much like Soma before her, Meetra waited with datapad in hand, already preparing to transcribe the secretary's response. @Nefieslab

 

[Carrick]

Smiling as was his want during such public meetings, Carrick moved his attention to the next reporter. The reporter for a publication of the same name as it's government - how interesting. He had heard of the publication in the past during his time on Tinnel IV but since spending more time in the Outer Rim his interaction with said reporting had been limited.

"Always happy to explain myself and help give some transparency to the workings of the Government." he assured Meetra with a bright smile, which was tweaked slightly to allowed just a touch of mischievous energy, "I did make my opinion rather loud during the session so apologies if it made for bland news to report."

Half the purpose of reporters, especially Political ones, was to try and extract truth from the sound bites that so many politicians actually spoke it half the time. That his opinion had been very easy to tell for anyone listening, probably meant his remarks during the session had been received by everyone rather clearly.

"Security concerns for the ISC currently include AMS infection spikes and criminal elements. Although research is continuing at a rapid pace, AMS infected can still overwhelm local forces and there is a need for Army and Navy elements to assist in keeping it contained. As for the criminal elements..." he let out a small breath, "The Syndicates have taken hits due to the AMS and other issues but they are far from gone. Planets within the Consortium, including Rodia and Tatooine, have had historic troubles with these same criminal elements bullying them into line and our forces will help ensure that they cannot simply roll back up and try it again."

He smiled wider.

"The Galaxy is changing and the ISC is ushering in that change. In the present that means we may be targets of those who would like things to go back to the way things were; our military will be our shield. For the future? I can't say what will happen but I can say that the ISC is better equipped to handle it with a strong, proud, military ready to aid it in those future endeavors."
