Master Thel had left her a note with an address in the city. They'd spent quite a while on Troiken now, and this was the first time he had left a note rather than send an Xextos to find her. A lot of them were respectful, but afraid of her; Therrin was the only one she really had any sort of friendship with, and he had been killed during their last asset acquisition. It made it worse that Param hadn't seen the droids they had taken from the pirates that day in action yet, and likely never would. As far as she knew, Master Thel was sending most assets they collected to the Dark Lord.

None of that really mattered to Param anyway. She had mourned the loss of her friend by spending a night at a local bar with the others in the strike team. Now it was time to move on. The address was in the heart of the city, just outside the starport. Param had been down the road many times, and went through what buildings were there in her mind to try to get an idea of what she was walking into. Of course, nothing prepared her for a brand new building standing where the address pointed.

It was a small building with a glass front and dura-plast walls made to look like paper and wood. Along the outside edge, empty garden plots sat waiting to be planted and tended. A neon sign above said "The Garden Spot." Confused, but slowly growing more excited by the minute, Param walked to the front door. There was no one inside and the lights were off, but the door was open, and let her through. The walls leading up to a barista bar had wooden colored dura-plast octogon cubbies, large enough for three to four people to have private meetings in. The remaining open area was covered in a small grid of tables and chairs.

Param stood in the middle of the cafe, taking it all in. The real question was why would Master Thel want her to come here?

Thel walked through the city. It wasn’t often he came here. He had spent more time on Troiken, during his time training Param. However, he preferred to move around. It made him difficult to pin down. He hadn’t even told Param about the full extent of his operations. She only knew of his dealings on Troiken and Bandomeer.

For all Param’s strengths, she had shown one particular weakness: a penchant for overspending. Rather than just chastise her for it, he decided that she needed a more practical lesson.

Land was fairly cheap on Troiken, so it hadn’t been difficult to acquire a small space in the city. He was making more credits than ever before. Whilst the money made from the operations he managed went to the Sith order, there was more than enough for him to secretly funnel funds to his own bank accounts. By doing this, over time, he had developed his own personal wealth.

The land he had acquired had been turned into a café. One of the few in the city. He knew of Param’s liking for plants. So, the café had been given such a theme. Giving her a business to run, would hopefully teach her some financial sense. Of course, she would also need to start paying him back for the money she’d wasted previously…

He waited for Param to enter and take a quick look around, before he revealed himself. He stepped out from the back room, flicking on the lights. He was dressed in his robes.

Welcome Param.” He stepped towards her. “So, what do you think?

"Did you have this built, Master?" she asked, unable to take her eyes off the beautiful furniture and architecture. It was like something out of a dream. "It's beautiful!" Normally she would have greeted him in a much more business related tone, but she was completely awe struck. Even so, he'd never been particularly over bearing when it came to her more casual demeanor towards him. He was about the closest thing to a father she'd had since she lost her biological dad when she was five.

Through all the thoughts, one major one remained. She turned a concerned look to Master Thel. "We can't possibly be training in here?" She'd almost rather burn the entire rest of the city down than have to sully such an amazing visage with training. Master Thel had never been one to simply hang out with her. Every time he called her to a place, it was for training or acquiring assets.

She seemed pleased with it. Good, because she’ll be the one looking after it anyway. He had spent his time trying to mould her into a Sith who would act more like him. Giving her greater responsibility would aid in that. “Yes, I did have it built.” He allowed her time to look around.

No, we won’t be training here. You see Param, this all now belongs to you. I’m giving it to you.

Param froze, eyes widening into saucers. Giving it to her? Master Thel never gave anything for free. The credit card was in exchange for pain. The training in exchange for work and loyalty. There was a shiver that ran up her spine, but the beauty of the place counter acted it. "It's mine?"

She was over joyed. Her very own tea shop, and with plots for a garden and everything. All the decorations and plants she would fill the shop with already coming into sight in her mind's eye. But they were Sith, and there was always a catch. Param folded her arms across her chest. "And the catch, Master? Nothing comes for free; you taught me that."

Thel watched as the cogs turned in Param’s head. Fortunately, it didn’t take her long to work out. Nothing came for free.

Nice to see you know how I think. It is yours for a price. I’ll be taking a fixed amount each month. Call it compensation, for your previous frivolousness.

She was growing stronger, but there was still a disparity between their power and influence. If she wanted the café, she would need to agree to his terms.

So, do you agree to my proposal?

Param's cheeks flushed a bit as Master Thel mentioned her frivolous spending. He was the one that handed her a credit card, electrocuted her, and told her that whatever she needed would be provided. She couldn't fault him for wanting to be paid back though. Param had planned to do it with Vaynai, but that mission failed spectacularly. This seemed like a good close second.

"Yes, Master," she said. His word choice of proposal was interesting. "Thank you, it's beautiful." She took the time to walk around some more, inspecting some finer details in the wood working and furniture. Her demeanor would change to one of business, as that's what this was now. She'd learned many things from Master Thel; one of them being when it was time to be serious.

"So what is this fixed amount? I'll have to test the patrons with what they're willing to pay."

I’m glad you like it,” he replied, with an entirely unenthused tone. I suppose if she likes it, she’ll put more effort into it.

It would probably be more accurate to say a fixed percentage. Forty percent of your monthly profits. That should suffice. I am willing to allow you a little bit of leeway, so that you can make this establishment profitable first.

He paused for a few seconds as he glanced around the shop, before his eyes fixed on his apprentice again. “I believe that you will become a champion soon Param. It is important that you be able to operate independently. You can’t be too reliant on anyone else.” She certainly shouldn’t rely too much on other Sith. There wasn’t really a Sith Order as such. It was merely a loose collection of self-interested individuals. Even when using another Sith for assistance, a certain distance should always be kept.
