James' republic update thingy.

The Galactic Senate:​

These people "run" the Republic. The create laws, create delegations and committees, and their decisions have drastic consequences for the worlds within the Republic. Not only are they lawmakers, they are often called upon as diplomats or negotiators during the current state of war.

Grand Army of the Republic:​

Formed from the Border Alliance, the Grand Army is a coalition of planetary militia mixed with the military might of other planets around the Republic brought under the command of the Supreme Commander and ultimately the will of the Senate. They are an elite fighting force with the resources of the Republic at their disposal. They are often on the front lines as special forces soldiers. GAR serves as the arm of the Chancellor when he/she has emergency powers, as the office is the "Commander-in-Chief."

Central Command:​

If the GAR were the military, Central Command would be the CIA / Officers. Central Command uses operatives who operate apart from the GAR and from most fear of court-marshal as almost all of their missions are classified. Officers are experienced operatives who work to coordinate and equip the senate with information and ability to strike, also are usually given command of a vessel. Central Command serves the Senate through the "Defense and Intelligence" committee.

I would clarify, the GAR is more than just a collection of militia. They also receive military forces from member worlds, and are training their own soldiers.
