Holocron of White Magic

Gatekeeper: Grandmaster Ciri Vis

THE HISTORY OF WHITE MAGIC
Although it is most often called Jedi Magic, White Magic is the more accurate term for the school of abilities that I'm going to talk about today. Even to me, the origin of White Magic is unknown. It seems to date back to an ancient civilization known as the Zeffo, perhaps conjured out of their studies of the Light-following Nightsister Clans or just from their own histories and exploration of Force-using sects.

What I can tell you is that it first started gaining some use among Jedi during the years the Jedi spent in hiding during the Andrastian Empire. The Empire had secured most of the galaxy for itself, and it used black magic and sorcery to maintain its dominion and control over the galaxy with an iron fist for five-hundred years. With carte blanche to practice and develop sorcery however they wanted for decades, a portion of the Jedi Consulars realized the Order needed a better way to combat these dark nightmares and a minority of them began to learn and develop Jedi Magic.

At its core, Jedi Magic is about reaching into the Force, beyond what its practitioners call "the Veil" that separates our world from that of the Force and pulling to themselves the spirits of ideas and emotions that represent the greatest parts of the galaxy: Valor, Compassion, Joy, Peace, even Love and more.

The Jedi Order has gone through many fluctuations over the years, and many of those have seen diametric opposition to any form of emotion, which has led to many shunning the use of Jedi Magic on those grounds alone for fear that love will turn to jealousy, valor to bloodlust, or joy to overindulgence. My life and existence, though, is a testament to the power of love for redemption and the role that these Spirits can play in the betterment of the galaxy.

Add to that the fact that many of the techniques of White Magic can be more offensive in nature, and it has been closely regulated if not outright banned by the Order at various times through the millenia.

It wasn't until I became a Jedi Master that I finally began to study it for myself, and finally decided to write down what I know to pass on to the future generations so that when the Dark Side finally raises its representatives again, we can be ready.

THE PROCESS OF WHITE MAGIC
White Magic is a different way of viewing the Force from how the mainstream of the Jedi Order see it. We know that there are those who manage to manifest their consciousness in the Force and maintain their identities following death. The Zeffo discovered that this was not isolated to once living beings, but to emotion itself. They found a way to commune with beings who represented the best aspects of the Light.

Through years or work, they managed to communicate with the spirits in their own native tongue, and Zeffonian became the language of White Magic. Although I never studied any of the dark arts, what I understand from the information the Jedi have gathered, they, too, use incantation, gesticulation, and runes to focus their power. Likewise, White Magic does the same.

As it was designed to combat these evil techniques, White Magic is inherently contrary to and toxic to Sith sorcery, and is perhaps the most effective tool available for combating it. Techniques such as Force Light are remnants of these teachings, and although Light has become more widespread within the Order, many of the other techniques have been either forgotten or left to fall by the wayside.

Individuals seeking to cast a spell or incantation with White Magic will execute the pieces of the spell and pour their own energy into the Force, which attracts the attention of the spirits which come to their aid. The extent of the power of White Magic is something I am still exploring, but its applications for combating evil as well as improving the lives of others is near-limitless.

THE RADIANCE OF WHITE MAGIC
The core offensive aspect of White Magic is that of radiant energy. Pure light that is pulled from the Force itself and transformed into the very essence that makes up the spirits themselves. They gift the user with their essence, which can be turned against the enemies of righteousness and justice.

Radiant energy is most effective against the darkest beings of the galaxy and like Force Light can obliterate abominations and creatures of pure darkness. Even against those who are not made of evil, radiant damage can burn flesh and deaden the nerves and render a being incapacitated in the course of only a few moments.

Radiant Beam

Perhaps the most obvious application of radiant energy is to simply hurl or fire it at one's enemy. A point-to-point beam of energy not entirely unlike Sith lightning in that it can be avoided or deflected except instead of a vile and volatile corruption, radiant beam represents purity. Although a brief or glancing gaze will not immediately subdue an enemy, impact for more than a few moments can easily fell an opponent.

As one might expect, the power and difficulty of defending against such an attack is dependent on the power and skill of both the attacker and defender. it has many uses, but I have chosen to list just a few below.

Radiant Strike

A more difficult and in many ways more potent ability than radiant beam, radiant strike practically splits the heavens themselves, calling down pure energy on one's enemies. A particularly difficult technique to master at low ranks, it can be devastating to a horde of abominations or unholy creatures and can even incapacitate multiple dark side opponents who are clumped closely together.

This ability is not quick to use, however, and generally requires one's near-total concentration at even intermediate ranks. Its results, however, if it is effective are quite impressive, though it only strikes one spot and does not move.

Radiant Slam

Slamming the power of radiance through one's fist into the ground, the practitioner can create a circular wave of energy around them to throw back multiple opponents within several feet and send waves of energy through them. Due to the wide diffusion of the energy around being used, the stunning effect lasts only moments and is significantly less potent than a direct beam, but in many cases, that can be all that's required.

It stuns the limbs that it contacts, sending numbness, weakness, and instability through them, although it does not typically render said limbs completely unusable. It is often a useful technique for either ambushes or to provide oneself with an opportunity to escape a bad situation.

THE APPLICATIONS OF WHITE MAGIC

White Magic does much more than simply combat the forces of darkness. While that is certainly one of the most obvious uses for it, it can do many things beyond that. Spirits of Valor can be summoned to strengthen the hearts of friends and allies on a mass scale. Spirits of Compassion can mend the body and heal wounds at the sides of healers. Spirits of Wisdom can show visions of possibly futures and give insights into decisions and paths to take. Spirits of Peace can be used in restoration of shattered minds.

Although spirits can be summoned directly, their power can also be harnessed and channeled through runes and glyphs. Glyphs are most commonly implemented into rituals to accomplish a wide variety of things. In the wake of the Sith defeat forty years ago, I reinforced several of our temples with barriers that can withstand barrages of cannons, dark spells, and nearly anything else thrown at it once activated. Breaking these barriers requires immense expenditure of strength and can allow time to evacuate should we ever need it.

Likewise, runes can be carved into objects for the purpose of creating items of power. Runes can store powers from beyond the Veil or even be used to summon Spirits for reinforcement. These techniques are collectively termed as either "Force forging" or "Craftsmanship." These arts forged the blades of the ancient Je'daii and have forged many over the millennia since.

I will never exhaust all the potential of these techniques, but I will leave you with this. If there is a need to stand against evil or defend the innocent, there are spirits out there who will help see it done.
