CPT. JONATHAN HAWKSBY

BIOGRAPHY

Jonathan Hawksby was a human starship captain born on the planet of Kuat. As a young man he worked as a mechanic at the Kuat Drive Yards, but he later left the planet and joined a militia with the Free World Alliance. For a few years he then proceeded to serve in the Coruscant Planetary Defense Force, and attained the rank of sergeant before retiring from the service.

At age 29, Hawksby bought the Calypso Saragossa, a decommissioned Wayfarer freight starship, and renamed it the Lame Duck. He chose the ship for its ability to be piloted with a mimimal crew (him and several droids) and its ability to carry a large amount of cargo. Hawksby ended his adventurous career in the military to become a freelance cargo transporter in the galaxy.

But, being completely over the dangers of an adventurous lifestyle, having experienced more than his share during his service to the Free Worlds Alliance, he was not a smuggler, but rather only transported lawful goods, and always under contract. While it was hard work, he made a name for himself as a trustworthy individual, an honest pilot, and a good friend. He had no shortage of contracts available to him, and made good, honest money running routine shipments for corporations and local governments.

Because of his unwillingness to take any dangerous work at all other than when needed by his government, there was a general misconception or false rumor that he was a pacifist. It was not true, as many found out who sought to abuse this or Hawksby.

PERSONALITY

Hawksby was an honest man, to a fault. His word was his bond, and he followed the law to the letter. He never looked down on others for their life choices, but recognized that he was responsible only for his own choices in life. However, he also did not usually socialize willingly with criminals or people of the Dark Side.

Hawksby, while more than capable of defending himself, avoided trouble at all cost, with the exception of when protecting innocent people). He avoided work in warzones, and he never took a contract without the necessary permits. A patriot, he never hesitated to serve and risk his life when the free governments of the galaxy called, but otherwise saw himself strictly as a civilian. He even walked around unarmed, most of the time.

Hawksby considered himself a businessman, and understood that keeping his ship safe, his cargo safe and his crew safe when he had one, wasn't just a matter of keeping people alive in a dangerous world. It was also a matter of keeping people employed, and keeping food on people's tables.

THE LAME DUCK

The Duck was a Wayfarer class medium transport ship that was scheduled for recycling at a scrapyard on Coruscant. The ship was in rough shape when Hawksby bought it, and he spent eight months working it back into shape. He made several modifications to the ship, including removing all armaments on the ship's hull, (though he stored the laser cannons onboard in case he ever needed them reinstalled) and expanding the cargo hold at the expense of the crew area.

Despite all the reparations made to the ship, Hawksby could not at the time afford to repair the engines which were in rough shape, operating at 60 percent of intended capacity. After a while, he got used to it, and worked around this handicap, never actually going ahead with the planned repair. The run down engines was also the reason behind the name that Hawksby picked for the ship.

The Duck was piloted by Hawksby, his friend and partner Ted, and six droids named A1, B2, C3, D4, E5 and F6.
