DESCRIPTION​

The K4-series security droid is a guard automaton manufactured by the Rim Securities corporation. Generally regarded as a solid and capable design, it has been in production since the Galactic Civil War, and sees relatively widespread service as in law enforcement, site security and even bodyguard roles.

The K4 is humanoid in profile, 1.6 meters in height with a lightly armored durasteel casing, capable of resisting light blaster fire. It has a distinctive elongated head, which incorporates high-fidelity visual, motion and auditory sensors, as well as a relatively sophisticated cognitive matrix and fire control system. The droid is armed with an integrated blaster rifle and extendable vibrobayonet mounted in the left manipulator arm. Unlike some other security droids, the K4 is able to move at relatively high speeds thanks to a pair of auto-balanced servo-legs.

Of note, early-model K4 security droids had a design flaw in which their servo-legs would go out of synch with their fire control system, leading to severely degraded accuracy when firing on the move. This issue was later traced to a faulty component in one of the fire control sub-assemblies, resulting in a recall which solved the problem. Nevertheless, an unknown number of K4s were never returned to the manufacturer for refit, and thus it is not unheard of to still encounter this flaw in the present day.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. K4s, like most armed security droids, are subject to special licensing for ownership by a faction or individual, and receive a great deal of scrutiny from authorities.
