His only real goal in life these days is to see that justice and the law is upheld and at times he does so at any cost.

BIOGRAPHY:
Kal Verda was born to Sara Essen, a Corellian law enforcement inspector and Tal Verda, a Mandalorian warrior. The two fell in love and decided to start a new life together away from their old lives. They bought a ship and decided to live in so they could see the Galaxy. It was on this ship that their son, Kal was born on. With their new son in toe, Tal and Sara knew that their family was complete. Their happiness was short lived when their vessel was brutally attacked and the two were killed in a vicious battle. If it wasn't for a convoy carrying a group of jedi, Kal would have been killed as well. The jedi rescued him and realized that the newborn had the midichlorians within him and so they brought Kal to the Jedi Temple to start his training.

Life at the Jedi Temple was good for Kal but he found it kind of boring. It's not that he didn't enjoy the training and the comradery, but Kal felt that there was something missing. Like maybe he wanted more action in his life. He continued on with his jedi training for the next 9 years where he excelled at certain skills but not in others. Kal made a lightsaber that contained a blue crystal. When it seemed that Kal was beginning to finally feel comfortable in his life as a Jedi, something happened that changed his entire perspective. On a training mission, Kal and his fellow students came across a illegal shipment of child slaves that were heading to Tatooine. While the Jedi were able to free the slaves, there wasn't much they could do to the slave traders due to a technicality which angered Kal. After a bit of soul searching, Kal made the painful decision to leave the Jedi Order.

After leaving the Jedi Order, Kal had nowhere to go but it seemed fate had other plans for him. While on a cargo ship heading to the outer rim, a group of pirates intercepted the ship Kal was in and attacked it. On board the cargo ship was Karr Skirata, a feared and renowned warrior of the Mandalorians. Although before he could defend the cargo from the priates, Kal showed his skills as a warrior, taking out a majority of the pirates on his own before Karr decided to join him in battle. Karr was so impressed with Kal that he took him into his own clan and trained him as a Mandalorian warrior. Over the next 10 years, Kal thrived for the battles and the ways of the Mandalorian until one day when Kal turned 18, he met Ellia Colton. The two fell in love and with his mentor's blessing, Kal moved to Corellia to be with Ellia and their new daughter Maggie.

When Kal moved to Corellia, he needed a job and decided to join the Corellian Security Force where he found himself finally doing the kind of job he felt he was meant to do. He threw himself into his work and quickly became a CorSec Inspector. Although Kal loved his work, he loved his family more and spent as much time with them as he could. Then, after coming home from a one month undercover operation, Kal discovered the remains of his Ellia and Maggie. There were signs of a struggle and both were force-fed a lethal dose of death sticks. Kal shut down for some time after that not going to work or talking to anyone. When he was finally ready to get back to work, he seemed different somehow. He was still the best at what he did but everything took on a bit of an edge. After a year, Kal realized that he needed a change. His captain let Kal keep his badge and put him on extended leave from the security force. Kal sold his house that he shared with his family and bought a Dynamic-Freighter class ship that he called the "Maggie Ellia". Along with an R2 unit, Kal took to the galaxy and became a Bounty Hunter who gained a reputation for taking very specific kinds of jobs and cases.

SPECIES: Half Corellian/Half Mandalorian
They are not a species, they are both have mix of species and culture. As you said one parent a corellian and another parent a mandalorian, but they are both human.?

Looks good, mate! A few points to make note of, though.

SPECIES: Half Corellian/Half Mandalorian
Mandalorian is not a species, it is a culture. So essentially he would be a Mandalorian from Corellia. Or it'd be more a backstory/biographical point that one of his progenitors was a Mandalorian, and his other was from Corellia. But at the end of the day, he would be a Human. Comparing to real-world things, that would be like saying that I am half-Australian, half-Catholic.

EDIT: Yes, I just noticed Skyway beat me to this point, but added a little more to it.

FORCE POWERS:
He is simply knowledgeable in the force but isn't adept in any specific area of it. He can sense certain things and tell when someone is lying. His reflexes have bit slightly improved due to his small connection to the force. His connection to the force dulled a bit due to using death sticks for a small time. Since stopping though, it has returned but not to what it once was.
Something that makes me curious is to what level is he able to be a walking polygraph? 100% success? 50%? Only against non-Force sensitive characters? A blanket "Can tell when someone is lying" is a little over-the-top and, in my view, entirely over-powered.

Outside of that, looks great, mate! Can't wait to see him around the board!

I think a 100% lie detector vs somebody not defending themselves with the Force is fine, as long as it has a restriction like physical contact. Further distance, harder to tell.

@Cassa you're half Catholic?!

Anyway, interesting bio. Love the CorSec background, and him being an inspector makes him even more interesting.

So I did the slight editing of the character. He's Half Corellian and Half Mandalorian Human. Are there non-human Mandalorians? I only ask because my Star Wars knowledge comes from the movies and the Clone Wars. I haven't really read a lot of the books or comics. I also edited his lie detector ability within the force so that he needs to have physical contact. Also, it becomes less reliable with someone who has experience in the force. I would think between the ability to use the force and his experience as a CorSec Inspector, he has enough of a "bullshit" meter that it will serve him well enough. Thanks for the input everyone and I look forward to hearing what others might have to say. Looking forward to posting in a story.

Speaking of which. If I wanted to get a story going, do I need any sort of approval of character first or do I need to go over any specifics when it comes to story?

I keep forgetting that. I guess in a way it's sort of like the comic book planet of Thanagar where a Thanagarians are a mix of different types of species. I edited it so it says that my character is human. Let me know if what I have sounds better.

Being Corellian is like being American. Its a location of your birth. Being Mandalorian is like being Catholic. Your character's species is Human.
Saying he's half-corellian, half-mandalorian is like saying he's half australian, half anglican.
I'd recommend breaking down that section and labelling his species clearly as Human, his home world as Corellia (if thats the case), and mention his Mandalorian parentage only in the Biography section.

Are there non-human Mandalorians?
Yes, there are. Wookiees, Twi'lek, Chiss, Noghri -- essentially any species can be a Mandalorian. As i mentioned in my last post; Being Mandalorian is a cultural lifestyle.

I only ask because my Star Wars knowledge comes from the movies and the Clone Wars. I haven't really read a lot of the books or comics.
Don't worry, the only books that really touch on the Mandalorian stuff are written by Karen Traviss... and they sucked.

I also edited his lie detector ability within the force so that he needs to have physical contact. Also, it becomes less reliable with someone who has experience in the force.
Cool, sounds much better!

As this character is an Indie, he doesn't require any formal approval, and you can start RPing with him as soon as you're ready to. However, in the interest of getting his backstory accurate, it might be worth PMing Vencu or Kiro for some help on that Mandalorian side of your character's history - They're probably the two most knowledgable people in the community about Mandalorians and Mandalorian culture (both are also fluent in Mando'a).

It makes sense to me now. Here's the thing. He wasn't born on either Mandalor or Corellia. His mom was from Corellia. His father was from Mandalor and a Mandalorian warrior. Maybe I should just take out the half Mandalorian/half Corellian part all together. I just wanted to make it known that he comes from both heritages but I guess that is stated in the biography.

Exactly. Being Mandalorian and born on Mandalore is a trait of Kal's father, and Corellian is a trait of his mother. Kal himself is... Human born on [insert planet of choice] to MummyCorellia and DaddyMandalorian. I guess, in the interest of clarity, just keep his biography and history about him. :)

I added a bit of extra info on where Kal was born so it's a little more clear that he's just a human who comes from two different heritages. Let me know if that works better and if it reads clearer.
