Kara Vaalki
Jedi Knight
Kara Vaalki was a force-sensitive human female from Chandrila and a member of the Jedi Order. Originally trained in the ways of the Force by a nomad Force user, Vaalki later approached the Order officially and underwent further education and discipline by the Jedi. Headstrong and capable, Vaalki was known for her skill with a lightsaber, abrasive personality, high standards, and her unsympathetic stance towards not only the Sith Empire, but all Force wielders who were touched by the Dark Side.
Vaalki tended towards a more traditional or outdated view on Jedi philosophy, advocating for personal discipline and self-control over all else, in contrast with some of the more liberal or free-spirited modern Jedi philosophies. Vaalki believed that self-control and vigilant discipline were key to enlightenment within the Force, and was a vocal advocate of some of the harsher or more traditional Jedi tenets that the Jedi Order were known for before the Clone Wars.
However, over time, Vaalki found herself more and more disillusioned with the leadership and direction of the Jedi Order. Following numerous atrocities committed by the Sith Order, and seeing little response from the Council, Vaalki found herself so disillusioned by the traditional hierarchies of the Jedi Order that she instead began to advocate for the disbanding of the Jedi Council entirely. Unsurprisingly, this made her few friends in the higher ranks of the Order.
Personality & Traits
Hailing from a world known for being blunt and direct, Kara Vaalki was a stern and often overly critical person, and often seen as taking herself too seriously - or expecting others to take themselves as seriously as she did. While her confidence in her own abilities often irritated her peers, her commitment and devotion to the Jedi cause was unquestionable - particularly in a period of conflict, as her combat skills were sharply honed, and she trained daily to maintain peak physical and mental condition.
Kara Vaalki was a strong advocate of the Niman discipline of lightsaber combat, and argued that any perceived flaws or weaknesses merely stemmed from a lack of discipline or commitment, rather than any inherent flaw with the form itself - that the flaw was in fact with the Jedi, not with Niman.
Biography
Raised by her parents on Chandrila, Kara Vaalki began exhibiting mild traits of Force sensitivity from an early age. Though an early talent from a young age, Kara's powers did not develop further, and as she entered childhood her parents were unsure whether or not to petition the fledgling Jedi Order to train her, as while she showed some talent in the Force, it seemed insufficient for her to become a Jedi. However, while the Jedi were few in number, there were a number of non-Jedi Force users who offered to tutor students in the ways of the Force, albeit for a price. Though Kara's parents were hardly wealthy, a deal was struck, and she began her tutelage.
Kara's first master, a stern elderly woman, taught her the rudimentary basics of using, manipulating and controlling the flow of the Force, and under her guidance, Vaalki became capable enough in Force usage that she would go on to join the Jedi Order in her early twenties. Vaalki rarely spoke of her initial tutelage, only that it was unorthodox and that her teacher was a former Jedi of sorts - and most definitely not a Sith, as her teacher despised them nearly as intensely as Vaalki herself.
Kara spent most of her junior years as a Jedi travelling, working beyond the Outer Rim as a peacekeeper, protector and arbiter, rarely staying in one place long and aiding remote communities - good honest work, as she would call it. The escalating conflict with the resurgent Sith eventually reached her ears, however, and she decided to return to the Core Worlds.
Powers & Abilities
Force Proficiency — Deeply disciplined from years of practicing and honing her talents, Kara wields the Force with the effortless ease that only comes from years of practice and expertise. Though her affinity leans slightly towards practical usage, such as healing trances, telekinesis or augmenting her physical speed, strength and endurance, Kara is also equally comfortable with more finessed usage, such as mind tricks. Kara meditates regularly to center her focus with the Force, and takes her adherence to the Jedi principles extremely seriously.
Weapons Proficiency While mediocre at best with a blaster pistol or rifle, Kara is a highly skilled lightsaber duelist, and capable of using a large number of melee weapons - everything from an electrohammer to a vibroknife, Kara is at least confident and capable of wielding, and improvised weapons such as staffs or clubs are more comfortable in her hands than most. Unsurprisingly, Kara is most comfortable using bladed weapons such as swords or vibroblades. Kara also has some capability with working with explosives.
Physical Abilities — As strong, agile and dextrous as ever, Kara Vaalki's true strength lies in her endurance and stamina, a trait that has only increased as she has grown older. While some mornings she wakes up feeling more stiff than she once did, or feeling mild aches and pains from a body that has lived an active and hard life, her years of experience easily compensate for the lack of youthful vigour, and Kara exhibits a stubborn strength and resilience that is extremely difficult to overwhelm.
Fighter Pilot — A trait picked up in her younger years, KAra was always fascinated with starfighters, and would constantly seek out the fast, most agile ships she could afford to fly or own. Having owned a wide variety of starfighters over the years= has given Kara an intuitive knowledge towards them, and if given the opportunity to service one, she is capable of making a decades-old starfighter perform as if it were brand new. Similarly, she is an extremely capable pilot and truly deadly in a dogfight.
